With the deadline just hours away, we bring you another trio of overlooked alternatives to ponder over. All three had standout seasons last time around and whilst a couple of our protagonists have arrived back on the radar after recovering from injury, another is looking to a kind run of fixtures to help improve a disappointing start to his second season in the top-flight.

Christian Benteke

Having signalled his return from injury with a second-half sub appearance at home to Tottenham last weekend, Villa’s star forward looks set for a recall to the first XI ahead of the visit of Everton. Prior to limping off at Norwich in Gameweek 5, Benteke’s impact had been instant – a brace against Arsenal, followed by strikes against Chelsea and Newcastle, earned the Belgian one of the biggest bandwagons around before a hip injury at Carrow Road forced him onto the sidelines.

Further analysis of Benteke’s displays shows how crucial he is to Paul Lambert’s side. From January 1 onwards, he netted 14 times in 17 league appearances for the midlands outfit – factoring in this term’s game time, that’s 18 goals in 22 starts in the top-flight, a quite sensational scoring record. With Villa now failing to score in each of their last two, Benteke’s return against the Toffees will be welcome relief for a side that have already put three past Arsenal and City this term.

Now down to just 8.8 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) after being sold by over 900,000 managers , the Villa forward (9.0 in the Sky Sports game and 5.5 in the Sun Dream Team,) has an enticing run of games on the horizon. With West Ham, Cardiff, West Brom and Sunderland following directly after the Everton clash, he looks poised to become a real contender for our three-man frontlines all over again.

Santi Cazorla

A sensational debut season for Arsenal saw the little Spaniard rack up 12 goals and 13 assists last time around. After succumbing to an ankle injury back at the start of September, Cazorla has spent more time on the treatment table than the Emirates turf but, having returned to action in last week’s win over Norwich, he’s firmly back in our thoughts as the Gunners head to stricken Palace in the early kick-off.

Rested to the bench for the midweek Champions League clash with Dortmund, Cazorla replaced Jack Wilshere just before the hour mark and looks set to return to the starting line-up at Selhurst Park. While team-mates Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey currently sit in 33% and 52% of FPL teams, the 9.6 priced former Malaga man resides in just 2% by comparison – coming in at 8.7 in the Sky Sports game and 6.0 in the Sun Dream Team, Cazorla also has Southampton, Cardiff and Hull in the next six to serve a reminder of his explosive potential.

Robert Snodgrass

The former Leeds man took the top-flight by storm last term as his playmaking skills served up 152 FPL points in his first year at Norwich. Snodgrass’ six goals, nine assists and 23 bonus points proved outstanding value for the Canaries – in spite of those heroics, he was handed a starting price of just 6.5 this term, with plenty snapping up his services prior to the season getting underway.

After eight Gameweeks of the season, Snodgrass has yet to produce a single goal or assist and has slipped to a modest 6.0 but as the stats show, he has perhaps been a little unlucky. In terms of goal threat, for example, a total of 14 shots is just one less than City’s Yaya Toure, whilst 11 chances created foe team-mates puts him on a par with Chelsea playmaker Oscar – if he continues in the same vein, a turnaround is surely on the cards.

Price at 7.3 in the Sky Sports game and 3.0 in the Sun Dream Team, Snodgrass entertains Cardiff this weekend but with games against West Ham and Palace in the next five, in addition to a trip to Newcastle, the schedule certainly holds promise for the 5% owned prospect.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

The Battle of The Chelsea Defenders

So everyone's looking to get in a Chelsea defender now. Seems to be a good option, only problem is which of the Chelsea defenders is the right choice? The popular picks seem to be Ivanovic and Terry, with most on here seeming to have JT. Now that they're prices are only separated by 0.1 m , the price factor doesn't really come into play. So which of the aforementioned 2 is the better option?

    Terry vs Ivanovic

    Terry :

    - Total of 7 Shots taken in the PL this season
    - 2 of these shots have been On Target
    - All 7 shots have come from inside the 6 yard box
    - Averages 0.4 SpG ( ShotsperGame)
    - Avg of 0.9 times fouled per game ( This might aid in getting assists for converted free kicks )
    - 0.4 KeyPasses per Game. Total of 3 Key Passes made so far
    - Pass Success Rate of 91.8 %
    - 0 Accurate Crosses/0 total Crosses. Understandable for a CB 😉
    - Avg of 3.6 Accurate Long Balls per game. ( 29 Accurate / 43 Total )
    - Through balls 0/0

    Ivanovic :

    - Total of 12 Shots taken in the PL this season
    - 4 of these have been On Target
    - 7 have come from Inside the 6 yard box
    - 2 have come from the Wide areas of the Penalty box
    - 3 have come from Outside the Penalty box
    - Averages 1.5 SpG
    - Avg of 0.9 times fouled per game ( This might aid in getting assists for converted free kicks )
    - 0.4 KeyPasses per Game. Total of 3 Key Passes made so far
    - Pass Success Rate of 80.5 %
    - Avg of 0.5 Accurate Crosses per game ( 4 Accurate Crosses / Total 29 Crosses )
    - Avg of 2 Accurate Long Balls per game. ( 16 Accurate / 29 Total )
    - Through balls 0/0

    How I interpret this data:

Ivanovic has had a higher number of shots than Terry(12 to 7). He has 2 more SoT than Terry (ShotsOnTarget) . They have an equal number of shots from inside the 6 Yard Box.
Ivanovic has had 2 more shots in the Penalty box than Terry, coming from the Wide areas of the PB
( Ivan's 9 to Terry's 7 ) . Ivan also puts in crosses, a total of 29 so far, from which he has a rate of 0.5 Accurate Crosses Per game. Whereas Terry has put in 0 Crosses. They have an equal number of Key Passes, 3 so far.

So, it looks like Ivanovic is the greater goal threat if you ask me, he seems to get quite a lot of shots off in the box, mainly being in the 6 yard box. He also has greater assist potential with the crosses IMO . Terry's main advantage is his BPs. If Chelsea get a CS and neither of them score/assist , he is more likely to get the BPs than Ivan, with a much higher Pass Success Percentage than Ivan ( 91.8 % to 80.5 % ). Terry also has a higher number of Passes made than Ivan, which aids his BPs potential.

I think Ivan's bigger goal threat + Assists potential, just edge it for me. Despite the fact that Terry's a BPs magnet, I'd still go with Ivanovic due to the reasons stated above.

      Simple rule:

      • If you have Terry keep him
      • If you don't, get Ivanovic

Saves a lot of typing 😛

I know. I am just fooling with you, great post. Terry's main appeal was the price, along with the fact he was standing out more than the others. IMO he isn't worth getting now at that price, unless he scores soon with Ivanovic doing Jack ****.

so, their price means nothing to U? I've had terry from the start...
those who still dont have either, have a .1m of trade off between the two [Terry-6.4 n Ivan-6.5] ....
If I still had to choose from these two at that price, I'd have gone for Terry... The Odd goal and Confirmed Bonus points from him on CSs are good enough for me....

This is racism at its worst 🙁

I'm afraid FFS should be kicked out of FPL.

Just seen Ozil is voted the highest as a Captain for this GW. No one think Wenger would rest him with Cazorla back and the rival is Palace?

        Yes 🙂

I can't Liverpool scoring more than 1 or two and Arsenal are a little too rotation prone this week.

        Rooney looks in great form.

    Ok guys.

Im gonna get lost between all the spam, but I have got a huge step closer to 'fixing' my team. This took a -8 though, and I still need to sort the defence and get Hazard at some point.

    Shame B Davies injured.

2.3 mill in the bank still.
