Fernando Torres grabs a goal and assist as Chelsea snatch a dramatic late win over City. Sergio Aguero’s scoring streak continues, though Michu causes owners consternation after drawing a fourth straight blank. A Roberto Soldado spot-kick is enough for Spurs to see off while, while a switch to 4-4-2 helps Gus Poyet win the Tyne-Wear derby in his first home match in charge of Sunderland:

Torres Makes the Difference
Having bagged a brace in the midweek Champions League win over Schalke, the Spaniard retained his place for the visit of City. Torres continued to impress, with a goal and assist in the 2-1 win earning him maximum bonus for a 12-point haul as Jose Mourinho’s side moved into second. Bearing in mind he’s never started two league matches in a row this season, his acquisition remains a huge risk but Torres has the form and the fixtures to prove a real differential if his manager keeps the faith – the Blues next seven (new, WBA, whm, SOU, sun, sto, CPL) look hugely enticing.

Schurrle Opens His Account
Given the importance of yesterday’s game, it’s arguable that Mourinho viewed his starting line-up as the strongest available. The German once again featured from the start, with Eden Hazard shifting over to the right to accommodate him – Schurrle finally found the net for the first time this term and, having now started five of the last six he has been available for, is becoming increasingly integral to Mourinho’s plans. At 7.3 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), compared to Hazard and Oscar at 9.1 and 9.0 respectively, he could well be worth a punt given the schedule above.

Aguero Run Continues
Fielded as a lone striker as Manuel Pellegrini opted for a 4-5-1, the Argentine maintained his outstanding recent form with yet another strike. It’s six goals in his last four in all competitions now for Aguero, with four goals and two assists in his last three in the league helping him to 64 FPL points – just three behind Daniel Sturridge in the overall standings. Yesterday’s defeat sees City slip to seventh, making a win over Norwich all the more crucial and with a trip to Sunderland also on his agenda prior to the next international break, fears are likely to ease over any potential rotation, with Aguero’s contribution simply too key for Pellegrini to dismiss right now.

Poyet Rings the Changes
After omitting Jozy Altidore from his first team sheet in charge of Sunderland last weekend, Gus Poyet reinstalled the US international alongside Steven Fletcher as Emanuele Giaccherini dropped out. The Uruguayan’s decision to shift to a front two proved decisive in a crucial derby win – Fletcher notched the opener and Altidore earned his first attacking points of the season after teeing up sub Fabio Borini for the winner. Already, the Wearside outfit are quickly evolving from the Paolo Di Canio regime – just five of the players picked in the Italian’s last match in charge in Gameweek 5 made yesterday’s XI. With trips to Hull, Stoke and Villa in the next four, the Fletcher-Altidore partnership will be hoping for more of the same after finally showing signs of prospering.

Soldado on the Spot
The Spaniard took advantage of a very fortuitous penalty award to seal the points against an obstinate Hull side. Worryingly for Spurs, they seemed incapable of breaking down Steve Bruce’s five-man backline until the spot-kick was given – in spite of their host of new signings, they have scored just nine times in the first nine Gameweeks. Soldado continues to have his critics – three of his four goals this season have now come courtesy of the spot but with a pair of assists also accrued, he has played a part in six of those nine strikes and at least looks a secure starter once again – something which cannot be said for the majority of Spurs midfielders. Last week Christian Eriksen dropped out of the XI and this time round it was Gylfi Sigurdsson’s turn, with Andre Villas-Boas opting for Aaron Lennon as he continues to search for the ideal combination behind the lone forward – the Spurs boss revealed after the game Andros Townsend was β€œokay” after landing awkwardly on his wrist – reassuring for the 138,000 FPL managers who drafted him in last week.

Vertonghen’s Premium Value
It’s six clean sheets in nine now as Villas-Boas’ side rack up the defensive returns. Having scored for the first time this term with a goal in the Europa League on Thursday, Jan Vertonghen continued to produce the goods – fielded at left-back once again, with Michael Dawson partnered by Vlad Chiriches in the middle, the Belgian was awarded the assist for Soldado’s penalty and also earned the maximum bonus points. His offensive threat is finally starting to come to fruition, with the 7.1 priced Vertonghen now up to 52 points – 14 ahead of any midfield team-mate and eighth in the overall FPL standings. With Everton, City and United in the next four, though, investment in Tottenham’s backline may be a little slow in arriving this week.

Michu Drought Extended
In hindsight, perhaps it wasn’t so surprising that Swansea failed to find the net yesterday – West Ham, after all, had conceded just a single goal in four away games prior to their Liberty visit. Handed the armband by many a Fantasy manager, Michu looked in good form heading into this one after netting in Europe on Thursday evening but another resilient display by the Hammers maintained his domestic drought – it’s now four games without a goal for last season’s Fantasy sensation. While faith has understandably dipped, the Swans’ schedule – allied with Michael Laudrup’s continued tinkering up top – still indicates reason for optimism; Cardiff, Stoke, Fulham, Newcastle and Hull are five of the next six opponents.

Hammers Resilience
The upcoming schedule is likely to see increased investment in Sam Allardyce’s defence after another resolute performance. West Ham have now conceded just eight goals this term – only the top five boast a more impressive defensive record – with five clean sheets already racked up for Jussi Jaaskelainen and co. Home clashes against Villa and Fulham, supplemented with trips to Norwich and Palace in the next five, bode well for those looking to invest; aside from their keeper, Winston Reid (5.1) looks the most secure backline option, though Razvan Rat is down to just 4.5 and has started each of the last five.

I feel FFS should introduce a new rule:

    - any person/s that accumulate a GW score that places them inside the GW rank top 100,000, shall be suspended from making any posts, until such a time that they are no longer within the top 100,000 for that GW.

Snodgrass f**ked me well and truely last year, I finally dumped then he scored two weeks in a row.

Sub 7 is hard this year, I would find an extra 0.3 and take a punt on Schurrle. I am tempted to downgrade Michu the ungrateful Spanaid to him, and use the funds to strengthen my sub defenders.

Otherwise go way cheaper and look at Brady / Townsend. Only other option is Ramsey and surely you have him already

I don't see the appeal in Paulinho at all. Hes not a good FPL prospect. I don't see the appeal in any attacking Spurs player. They don't score enough goals. Lallana looking good.

Keep Hull defense. They are tight at the back. Norwich are really poor.

I get that you're building team value and riding some form players but even so 44 points worth of transfers and a wildcard seems excessive.

Well it's not updated with Kolarov's probability of playing vs Norwich yet but, if he was 100% certain of 90 minutes, then he'd obviously be a strong contender given the Norwich attack and his potential for attacking points. With Liverpool at Arsenal, assets from those teams are obviously going to be dented in the algorithm too. I guess you don't have any City attacking players?

Silva will be coming in for Michu but I probably won't captain Silva, might just go Suarez. Can't justify a hit for Aguero when my strikers are all firing.

I would like to captain Kolarov but yesterday's lineup has screwed things up, I need Clichy to start the league cup game but I don't see it happening.

Paulinho - anyone else consider him unlucky not to have scored more points and assists? Seen some Tottenham matches, and he seems to always be there or thereabouts when the ball's in the box.

Yeah, they have looked great so far, but having (ars, che, MCY, new, TOT, eve, CHE) in that 9 game stretch is tough, especially if you've doubled with a defender like a lot have (myself included)....

The defender can be benched and they have the potential to rock a few of those teams. Spurs hardly scoring, Everton are hit and miss, Newcastle nothing special. He'll get saves at least anyway.

Yeah, I think Palace players are a no go zone at the moment. I have Ward and I'm not planning on starting him ever. Upside with keepers is the save points I guess, but always the chance of a thrashing too.

Not from GW12 to the wildcard it's not....

Swansea are the 4th worst on the ticker in that range, and 2nd worst from a defensive view point.

I quite like the Boruc/Foster rotation (assuming he's back by then)

AVL, new, AVL, NOR, car, HUL, car, whu, NEW

        or even the Boruc/Guzan rotation

Eto isn't suddenly going to get relegated to a permanent bench role, certainly now while they have multiple competitions to play in.

Top of the head to head all season, despite having one of the lowest overall scores.

Yesterday I got beat by the lad who is bottom of the league despite earning 72 points myself.

    Key performer: Leon Osman.

    It's a funny old game.

Returns from injury, 30 mins to build his fitness (I've held on to him from before he got injured mate) AND creates 2 chances in that limited time straight away! That's a very encouraging accomplishment when you consider Cazorla's full appearance against CPL.

Seriously though mate, he will strike gold.

I didn't see it actually :/ Someone on here said he looked decent though but that Swansea were struggling overall. How good were the chances he made? That's what this all hinges on I suppose.

Townsend had a nice shot from outside the box from what I saw, good save by the keeper to stop it. Not sure about his playmaking in that game though.

Thinking of subbing Paulinho out because even though i like him, i have money to spare, a free transfer, and i'm a little wary of Spurs' upcoming fixtures.

I'm really trying to convince myself to get Silva but i'm having trouble imagining him not being rested in any of the upcoming prem league games considering the champs league games and the propensity for Silva not to complete full games. Can anyone give me another option that would be better over the next 4 games or so, or help me be fully convinced about Silva? Thanks

I just got Silva in. Look at his ownership %. He is city's main threat for creating chances. Even if he plays 60 mins he can be great value.

I'm a big fan of Silva, he's definitely one of the best players in the premier league in my opinion but the worrying thing is that while he's always involved in the play, fantasy league only rewards direct involvement in a goal and that's what you can't get a guarantee for with Silva as opposed to someone like Suarez. So with the risk of him being rested, and the fact that while he almost always plays well, he doesn't necessarily get involved in the final pass or shot, just look at the game vs Hull a few weeks back (i had him then) and while he played well, i never really felt he seriously threatened to make points that game. You're comfortable knowing all of this?

I am, because I think his over all threat outweighs all of that.
He seems to be playing better under Pellegrini and he is the most nailed on City attacker there is? I know Aguero is playing so well but he simply cant play all the games because there are 3 other strikers available.

I was seriously considering Aguero but i'm very happy with Lukaku, Sturridge, and Suarez so i'm not gonna go for a striker sub this week, and thats why im considering Silva. I had him for the first 3-4 weeks so it's not like i've been burnt by him and that's why im being pessimistic.

Thing is, Aguero seems to play whenever he's fit so i don't think he would be rested (unfortunately), and Silva hasn't really done that well in the smaller games either so that's why im just not sure about Silva. However, Paulinho to Silva is more appealing to me than Lukaku or Sturridge to Aguero, but what do you think about Oscar, i can't convince myself to get him either because of Mourinho's rotation policy and their packed schedule..... Damn i'm a pessimistic person πŸ™‚

I have Oscar and Silva now.

You seem to be forgetting that Silva got a goal and an assist against West Ham? One of the toughest defenses in the league at the moment.

Silva and Aguero link up very well, I had Silva too and I would still have him if he didn't get injured. If you don't feel confident with it don't do it mate, go with your gut

Surprisingly, he's convinced me in his away games like the one vs Cardiff and vs West Ham. I've already been leaning heavily towards him but just not feeling completely confident but i think you helped in making me feel a little more accepting of the idea so thanks πŸ™‚

On a side note, would you say that Toure might not be getting the credit he deserves? He's looked great too

(looks to see that everyone has gone away)

It's Coutinho. He should be back next week with assists if not goals for the SaS squad. Will demote Gerrard to defensive midfield position. So assured starts with the best strike force in the land to pass to. Currently 8.5 with 4.3% ownership.

We now know that Ozil has weakness away from home and can be closed down, that's because Arsenal have only one full striker. Defending teams don't have that luxury with SaS.
