Fixtures

Chelsea square up to a schedule that could potentially resurrect their early season form. Villa and Sunderland meanwhile, can look to their forthcoming run of opponents for consolation as they look to halt a slippery slide into a relegation dogfight. A host of other sides aren’t so lucky, facing a fixtures that curdles the milk in the half-time cuppa.

Set your Season Tickers to stun as we “Frisk the Fixtures” one more time…

The Highs…

Chelsea
If Chelsea’s next three gameweeks were a department store they’d be Harrods (minus any Michael Jackson effigies). Quite simply, they are a top of the range selection, reminiscent of the kind of run they enjoyed to open their season; we all know how that turned out (pretty darn well).

With consecutive home games against Wigan, Birmingham (this game tied to a double-gameweek trip to West Brom) and West Ham approaching, Fantasy investment in the Chelsea squad is surely going to gather pace.

Frank Lampard is probably over-priced in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) at 12.9 but takes penalties and is the only heavyweight who can be relied upon to start all those matches. Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, Fernando Torres and even Salomon Kalou are scrapping for the striking positions; take a gamble on one of those and it may well come up trumps, but it would certainly be a risk. At the back meanwhile, David Luiz will continue to rocket in price given that he is ineligible for European matches. He looks the most assured defensive choice, despite his showing at the Britannia, with a little Brazilian flair thrown in.

Sunderland
Sunderland are a bit of an enigma right now – they’ve not scored a goal in over 400 minutes, they may have lost their best defender (no really) for the rest of the season and are a point or two from the safety of the Premier League middle ground.

The fixtures, however, could not have fallen better for them. The next six games [WBA, bir, WIG, FUL, bol, WLV] look very appetising and, in ordinary circumstances, promise returns at both ends of the field. Steve Bruce’s side will need to regain a semblance of form before we can invest with any real confidence however – without that, the Black Cats are a risk.

The loss of Titus Bramble will dent credentials in the clean sheet department but the likes of John Mensah, Phil Bardsley and recent Watchlist candidate Simon Mignolet will still be contenders to consider here.

The strike pairing of penalty-taking enigma Asamoah Gyan and bargain basement loanee Danny Welbeck, are perhaps more likely to attract immediate interest – particularly if there are shoots of recovery on show against the Baggies at he weekend.

Aston Villa
Gerard Houllier’s side stick around then – still boasting a fixture list that promises to deliver an end of season sting. Their next five games [NEW, whm, STK, wba, WIG] have to be classified as one of the best run of opponents around, keeping their squad assets firmly in our mind, despite Villa’s current flirtation with relegation.

The 2-2 draw with Everton had more than a few talking points but most encouragingly for Fantasy Managers, we saw key Villa investments play their part. Darren Bent bagged both goals to flash back up on radars, while Stewart Downing and Ashley Young took it in turns to play provider. Those willing to back a defensive recovery meanwhile can of course also consider Kyle Walker – shaky on Saturday, the raiding right-back remains a steal in Fantasy terms.

Also to consider: Birmingham – a couple of moderate fixtures surround a double, followed by strong run-in to come. Blackburn – the draw at Arsenal was a much-needed boost and now the horizon looks promising; Junior Hoillett certainly presents a decent option. Blackpool – four crucial consecutive home matches will surely decide the fate of Ian Holloway’s side.

The Lows…

West Ham
The Hammers had been on the road to recovery but the nature of the 4-2 defeat to United on Saturday is a concern. The second-half collapse may well have knocked the veritable stuffing out of a West Ham side that continues to face few favours from the fixture list.

Trips to Bolton, Chelsea and Man City in the next four weeks present very sizable obstacles which will require the Hammers to regain defensive steel and for Demba Ba and Thomas Hitzlsperger to provide the quality in attacking terms. Fantasy Managers seem unlikely to throw their support behind the cause.

Stoke
The temptation with Stoke is to sit on the likes of Robert Huth and Matt Etherington for the next couple of gameweeks, with a double fixture in gameweek 34 looming. A trip to Spurs comes next, followed by a gameweek 33 blank. The double header with Villa and Wolves is the key however, and Huth owners may well hold firm with more pressing transfers required elsewhere.

The problem here is that, following the double fixture, Stoke’s prospects remain pretty glum. With Arsenal and City up next, clean sheets look unlikely and Huth will likely be required to add to his already impressive goal tally if he is to offer value. Stoke continue to impress at home and, in these games, we may see some continued attacking profit, but there appears to be far stronger potential to be found elsewhere.

Liverpool
Kenny Dalglish’s men have a faint hope of stealing fifth place and will equally do their utmost to hold off Everton’s charge up the table. The red side of Merseyside face an uneasy run-in however, and will need to maintain results in the face of some testing fixtures.

Two gameweeks at home to Birmingham and Newcastle in the middle of this period might be considered respite, but the four games around them in particular (MCY, ars, ful, TOT) are far from kind to Liverpool’s top five prospects.

Andy Caroll has gained over 160,000 new owners in recent weeks, Fantasy Managers who are clearly tipping the big centre-forward to recapture his consistent form in black and white stripes. Those considering the Geordie striker, and his supremely talented striker partner Luis Suarez, may wish to mull over the fixture list a little more before preparing investment.

Be wary of: Newcastle – Alan Pardew’s side look safe but with United at home and trips to Liverpool and Chelsea to come, the Magpies may struggle to continue their table climb. Man City – two potentially troubling away games sandwiching a blank fixture means lifeboats are being manned for a short-term Fantasy exodus.

So as things stand does it seem rooney will be banned for the fulham game and possibly more? Or is it at all likely that he'll even be ok for the fulham match?

They've got til 6pm tomorrow to appeal, so then you'll know 100%. Otherwise, no one can say if it's likely or not.

"United and Rooney have until 6pm on Wednesday to deny the FA’s charge."

That's what Mark's article says, but I haven't read anything else so I'm just going from that.

If Utd don't appeal, he misses the Fulham game and the FA Cup semi v City.

If Utd do appeal, the ban could get revoked completely (unlikely), reduced to a 1 match ban (quite possible), stay as a 2 match ban or be increased to a 3 match ban (so he'd also miss the Everton game) if the FA deem the appeal to be 'frivolous'.

That is epic. I saw a guy do that trick while running at a player down the wing once, did the trick and got the ball right over the defenders head and carried on running....thats where my memory fails as I don't know if he scored or assisted, either way it was awesome!

                same old same old really.

bit annoyed it was edited by admin, used to be you could have a bit of a ding dong on here once it wasn't full of profanity, or had justification.

To be honest, whnever theres an argument on here between chill pill, or db, or ap, or any of the usual arguers, i find myself entertained, way more than people asking the same shite questions over and over again..., it makes far more interesting reading. It reflects the personalities on teh site, and gives it one, because life isnt always sweetness and light.

anyway, thats just my opinion, not my site. But my opinion is definitely that once people arent effing and blinding the site gets a bit of depth and personality, as opposed to to the same conversations about the same group of about 30 players that most people have.

off out with dog, im bored now 🙂

I can't decide. I want Luiz and Lampard so much that I would need to take a 8 point hit this week to get rid of Rooney and if I do it next week I might as well just wait because it's only another week then.

That being said, fixtures aren't great so I might get rid anyway but can't decide who for. I'd like to triple on Chelsea but choosing between Drogba and Torres is tough. I'd choose Drogba usually but with rotation you don't know who's going to start and having Zamora already I can't have another striker that isnt going to play the next few weeks

I can't believe no-one here picked up Ozil, 12m seems entirely reasonable considering the silly money being chucked around.

Although I suppose Real does have a draw.

you know what, ive started ignoring them. My point was he was looking for attention, saying one week hes bent, the other he's straight.

like i said, i couldnt care less, but he can only be always saying different shit for one reason and one reason only- to provoke a row with some poor homophobe.

Anyway, i ignore it cos im defeating the purope drawing attention to him.

It's artifacting (I have no idea what I'm talking about but thats what I'm told).

      http://twitpic.com/4foxab

That's a picture of the first screen, on the left hand side you can see the colours and writing are messed up. This happens on all screens through boot up and into windows.

I can only boot in safe mode, if it goes through normally then I get a blue screen with a load of writing on (which I cant read quick enough) then it just reboots itself and continues in this circle.

I've tried dusting it, reseating it. I have 4 fans in my computer case and the fans on the graphics card and processer are working.

      I think it's just bust?!

I can't get twitpic at work.

However, it seems like it might have a resource clash which is causing the BSOD and a reboot. And the fact that it's happening at the point it is indicates it's either your network card, something installed on your machine, or just the resolution.

What have you changed since the last time it was working? Anything, even the resolution or a piece of software?

Is it artifacting even in safe mode? If it is, then that's likely a symptom.

Not sure what I've changed but before looking into possible problems I reinstalled Windows and it's still doing having the same problems.

It aritfacts in safe mode too. I've uninstalled the card and rolled back the drivers and then updated to the latest drivers and its still doing it

That's how I spelt it but on all the computer forums and stuff I looked at as well as google images it was called artifacting.

I know what I did a bit before it first happened Soop. My mate gave me a code for that Rift game, and I said to him I'd try it on full settings then watch my computer blow up. Famous last words.

It ran ok on full settings but was a bit jumpy, then I put it back to normal.

Then later on the artifacting happened, Guess that could have f*cked it?

I doubt this, but do you have a spare hard drive? I'm not sure whether you can bood Windows from a DVD.

But the way to troubleshoot this type of problem is to take out EVERYTHING in the PC you don't need, and then add things back in one at a time to see what the problem is. Even better in this case, if you do it on a clean install.

So you'd start with the hard drive, CPU, one stick of RAM, and if there's no on-board video, the graphics card. If it's still doing it then, it's buggered. If it's not, add everything gradually until you find out what it is.

If you've added a component, it could even be a power issue. What's the wattage on your PSU? And the graphics card was working previously, right?

Er, unsure on the PSU. I'd have to check it when I get home, graphics card has always worked ever since I built it like 2 or 3 years ago.

I've not added any new components since the original build.

I've taken the RAM out and put it in one by one and it still does the same. I don't have onboard graphics so nothing works without the graphics card.

That rift thing sounds like the issue. Get into safe mode and set the settings back down, then reboot.

I've no idea why that would affect anything outside of the game, but I suspect the GPU is 'stuck' somehow.

Hmmm I'll give this a try when I get home. I reinstalled Windows though, there's still a "windows old" file but it would mean installing the game again which you can't do in safe mode can you?

                    oh snap.

Do you have onboard video? You could use that instead.

This is the problem with Windows. It's actually alright if you don't install much more than Firefox. After that it goes to **** pretty quickly.

Views on this team gents for a 4 point hit. I need to get rid of Gordon and I was thinking Mignolet for a replacement, but with defensive issues for Sunderland is Mignolet the right choice? I'm also thinking of Zigic > Welbeck.

    Walker Coleman Luiz
    Barton Lampard O'Hara Nani VDV

I'm not 100% sure about the Gordon situation, but I think I'd just stay away from a Sunderland keeper - you don't want to waste another transfer changing it again if Gordon comes back.

Begovic rotates perfectly home and away with Foster.

SEB was great against us, I think he could get 6 or so goals before the end of the season. Good budget option in light of Wolves's nice fixtures. I wouldnt have two Blackpool so the choice is
      Adam & Seb
      O'Hara & DJ
      I'd prefer the former.

Not too sure what I'm doing regarding Mr Rooney just yet. I'm pondering

          1) Keep him & Stearman/Elokobi->Kelly
          2) Drogba->Rooney
          3) SEB->Rooney & Terry->Kelly

Better player? Jarvis. Better fantasy prospect? Hard to say - O'Hara is getting a lot more love on here, but Jarvis' last 5 scores are 5,8,5,9,5 - not too shabby. O'Hara is a bonus magnet, though.

Sorry to ask again but if Rooney is out this week how does this sound:

    Rooney > Drogba this week
    Nasri > Lamps next week

I've already done Vidic > Luiz this week, but don't mind taking one hit. Is Lampard a better pick for the double than Nasri?

I'm doing that at a hit. Sooo Y'know.

Odem -> Welbeck for a hit ? Or Barton -> Adam (Which is what I already did).If my calculations are correct then you can afford Barton -> Adam and Kolarov -> Luiz. Leaves you with 0.0 in the bank exactly like me. Yeah do that.

cheers, appreciate that, was thinking about taking a hit and maybe bringing adam in, i dont know whether its worth it this week as they have Arsenal this weekend? But yeah thought exactly the same and it does leave me with 0.0 in the bank.

Would you say its best to get rid of Barton or Yaya, Yaya has Liverpool away this weekend and no game next weekend or should i stick to removing Barton?

Further is anyone thinking to bring in Lampard or you reckon Luiz is enough Chelsea cover?

Looking for a big betting night tonight. At the moment I am doing.

    Dag & Redbridge Vs Peterborough

    Over 0.5 Goals £10 - 1/40
    Over 1.5 Goals £6 - 1/6
    Over 2.5 Goals £4 - 4/7
    Over 3.5 Goals £3 - 6/4
    Over 4.5 goals £3 - 7/2

This pays £44 with £26 stake.

And then my real gamble for tonight.

Dag & Red 0-2 Peterborough HT
Dag & Red 3-2 Peterborough FT

Stake of a fiver. Pays £2500 Well worth it IMO.

Any other bets for tonight people?

That's realistic, but Arsenal can't possibly beat all the minnows and Spurs, it would be very unArsenal like.

I know it's arsenal and they are chokers but al they need is one good result and they are back on their way again. No better time to play a free falling Blackpool too!

I hope that bottom 3 is right! Have them 3 at 6-1 from the start of the season!
