The draw for the first round of the 2019/20 FFS Cup FFS Cup

As one cup competition starts to warm up, the other is already at boiling point. Eight were reduced to four this weekend as the Members’ Paddy Power Cup reaches the Semi-Final stage. Before we move on to the draw for that, here is how the Quarters played out…

1 – Roostars 61 – 57 ryangal1982

A late Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez-inspired fightback from the 1,921st ranked ryangal1982 wasn’t enough to avoid the upset defeat to, a Wayne Rooney-assisted, 18,251st ranked Fantasy Manager in the world, Roostars. It’s extremely unlucky for ryangal1982 to be making an exit this week, as had he faced any one of the other six Quarter-Finalists he would have progressed.

2 – Gooner dave 44 – 57 Kippax Kloggers

The shock result of the round saw FFS Cup III Champion Gooner dave given a crushing defeat by Kippax Kloggers. Rooney wasn’t the difference in this tie as both Fantasy Managers went in with the Manchester United forward, nor was it the captaincy choices that swung it (both skippered Robin van Persie). The key was in defence, where Kippax Kloggers trio notched 15 more points than did Gooner dave’s. He will be hoping that the wheels aren’t coming off what has so far been a fantastic season, in a similar fashion to his beloved Arsenal.

3 – The Hunt 39 – 26 canetoad

Our lowest-scoring tie saw The Hunt reach the Semi-Finals with ease. If ryangal1982 was the unluckiest Fantasy Manager of the round, then The Hunt was certainly the most fortunate. Having scored the second-lowest points tally in the round, the phrase “the luck of the draw” has never been more appropriate. Both will be ruing their miserable week (canetoad more so, obviously) and their unfortunate bench selection (The Hunt benched Peter Odemwingie, canetoad benched Kevin Nolan).

4 – Zophar 55 – 52 kapitidave

Deciding the final tie was, ultimately, kapitdave‘s transfer dealings. A four-point hit may look bad when you lose by three points, but when you consider Wayne Rooney was sold for Robin van Persie as part of that hit, then it looks decidedly horrific. So it’s another win and another green arrow for the now 13th in the world Zophar.

It’s participants decided, here is how the Semi-Finals shape up…

1 – ZopharVs. Kippax Kloggers

2 – Roostars Vs. The Hunt

Mimicking the FA Cup Semi-Finals somewhat, the highest ranked Fantasy Managers have been drawn together, and the underdogs have an excellent opportunity of making a Cup Final appearance.

Once again, the prizes for the competition, provided by Paddy Power, are a free £150 bet for the winner, £75 for the runner-up and £50 for third place.

Nothing. It was all or nothing on the four coming in.

Bit gutted because the bets I was going to put on - a tenner on all eight teams scoring (£170 return) and a fiver on three games (not Kiev) being over 4.5 goals (£575 return) - both came in.

Couldn't be bothered putting the extra cash in my account to make the bets (thought I'd used the money to feed the children or summint).

Backed Kuchar at 33/, so he'll give me something to watch over the next few days.

Heartbreak. I was thinking of backing a Benfica 4-1/Porto 5-1 double. Can't believe I didn't go through with it in the end.

    The second coming has begun.

''Oliveira Anderson returned to Reserve action tonight, netting twice to see-off Man City's second-string 3-1 at Moss Lane.''

Usually, when Second Coming begins I press stop and put on 'Stone Roses'

Far superior. I expect Fergie to do the same to Anderson's career

    Hi everyone

My team at the moment is:

    Foster
    R Johnson Coleman Luiz
    VDV Walcott Adam Nani Lampard
    Welbeck V Persie(cpt)

    subs: Begovic, Huth, Williamson, Rooney

is this good enough?? I have doubts about Coleman, VDV, and Welbeck. 0.3 in the bank

    options considered are

    A) No changes
    B) Rooney > Drogba
    C) Huth or Coleman > Dawson/Jones/Samba/Walker
    D) Something else. Suggestions anyone??

also thinking of getting Tevez and Kolarov in around wk 34/35

Can someone reply this week, thanks

Team is absolutely fine. I'm yet to make my mind up on a potential Rooney to Drogba swap though... It's tempting me.

Rooney to Drogba for GW 32 & 33 then back to Rooney??

Was considering Tevez from GW 34 instaed of Rooney?

I'd give Drogba week 34 as well, then a swap for Tevez looks perfect.

If you/I get rid of Rooney now, I wouldn't ever want him back. Fixtures in a few weeks time are pretty poor. Just undecided on whether I will actually get rid of him in the first place.

Am I mad to be considering putting in Carroll? He's just a cheaper Torres right?

As a Liverpool fan, Carroll does not look fit enough to me yet. He didn't play for 3 months, so I think it will take a bit longer for him to start firing on all cylinders

Over this gameweek and next I'm going to do lampard and luiz in for silva and kolarov. Which would you get in first? Has to be lampard and captain him this week, right?

Well, actually, maybe the other way?
But that's mainly due to rather having Silva this week than Kolarov,
but I'm scared by not having Lamps this week

I have both the city players down as getting 2 points. I'm scared of lampard going mental before I get him.

Forgive if this has been discussed or obvious ...

But Sporting Life discussed before the MU/CHE game that the FA was going to tell SAF what their diecision was before the game, but not make it public until Thurs, in order not to upset the game. SAF would have the option of whether to tell Roon ...

So, since SAF knew before the game that the ban was to remain 2 games, perhaps he sat Nani in order to keep him fresh-o for the upcoming matches - where Nani's scoring would be much needed?

Seems to suggest that Nani's not as much as a risk for rotation - but in fact nailed-on to start, yeah?

    Thoughts?

Remember, I have no 'absolute knowledge' that the notification Wednesday in fact occurred ... but I don't think that it would be special treatment, as they had "made their decision but were waiting in order not to upset the game" [according to SL]

Maybe the FA called SAF on that 1980's white telephone ...
