Undeterred by last week’s miserable performance from our tenner – I’m going back in for another round with our friends at Paddy Power to back some of my selections from the gameweek’s Scout Picks. Read on to discover where the cash is being blown this time…

Starting at the back, I’ve opted for Blackburn’s Chris Samba’s goal threat from set-pieces, so it’s only right that I back that with some of my Flutter funds. Paddy are tempting us with odds of 9/1 on Samba scoring with a header against Birmingham – I’ll throw a couple of quid their way on that one.

Moving into midfield and we’ve got a good few goalscoring options to choose from. Both Frank Lampard and Rafael Van der Vaart will go into attractive home fixtures with plenty of Fantasy backing – I’ll reinforce that with a quid each on Paddy’s Scout Speicials. We can get 3/1 on Lampard to hit a brace against Wigan, with 15/2 on Van der Vaart doing the same when Stoke arrive at the Lane.

Daniel Sturridge is perhaps as surprise name in the Scout Picks but I’m confident that, given his recent performances, he’ll find the net against the Hammers at the Reebok. Sturridge is yet to score a brace for Bolton but, with odds of 17/2 available on that against Avram Grant’s side, I’ll take a real put on this, placing a healthy £3 on this one.

We’ve combined two of Big Dunc’s differentials for our next bet – look out for his full article later. In past weeks this has been a breeding ground for Fantasy returns, having promoted Bobby Zamora and Adam Johnson last weekend. This time around I’m following Dunc’s sage-like words and putting a few quid on Junior Hoilett and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake. Paddy are offering 10/1 on the pair both scoring this weekend – we’ll put a quid on that one and another on odds of 33/1 on a Hoilett brace against Birmingham. You can get further odds on Ebanks-Blake here.

As usual we’ll end our flutter by chucking our final funds on our Clean Sheet Accumulator – we can get 8/1 on shutouts for Tottenham, Blackburn and Chelsea in their home games this weekend.

That’s about it. The cupboard is bare. Lose this week and Granville and the kids go hungry (Hungary?). Give generously Paddy.

With the Grand National this weekend, this could be the time to break your Paddy Power cherry. They are still offering £20 of bets for free for those who sign-up and bet a tenner. Click here to get involved.

This offer is only available to those aged 18 and over and is subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone know anything about Horse Racing?

Just want to know if it stands a good chance that Don't Push It will still be favourite to win the Grand National at 4.15 tomorrow. Got money on it at evens that it will be!

The fact that McCoy is on board will probably be enough to maintain its favouritism; and it won the race last year.

Silver by Nature and (if he was about 3 years older) Quinz look to have a decent chance; both about 16-1 at present.

Not sure if the ground will suit Silver quite well, but I wouldn't call it a bad each way bet.

Quinz I'd say is too young, I'm not sure the last time a 7 year old has won?

Last 7 year old winner was back in 1940! Selected Grand National trends (not mine but from another website):

            1. Runners should have won at least one race worth £17,000
            2. Likely winners must have won a chase with 12 or more in the field
            3. They should have won a chase at 3 miles or more
            4. The last 20 winner had all raced over 12 times in chases
            5. There has been no 7 year old winner since 1940
            6. Runners aged between 9-10 have won 12 from the last 15 Grand Nationals
            7. There has been no winner carrying more than 11-5 since Red Rum won in 1977.
8, Fifteen of the last 20 winners started in the top 8 in the betting

The last 3 pointers maybe helpful otherwise you'll have to go digging very deeply into the formbook!

exact same dilema as I had(same 5 midfielders).
after a lot of though I went for VDV out.
      why?
not the easiest run for spurs, plus they will be shook after the CL defeat. VDV may only get 60 minutes again, and can get injured at any time. Plus he seems a bit pissed off at getting substituted all the time....

    Hi all,

I’m having a hard time talking myself out of an 8 point hit:-

    Current team:
    Robinson (Foster)
Luiz, Baines, Johnson R, (Evatt, Onuoha)
    Meireles, Nani, Adam, Silva, Wilshere
    Carroll, Tevez, (Rooney)

I’m thinking of replacing Meireles with Lampard, Tevez with RVP and Rooney with Bent.

    What does everyone think?

    Appreciate the advice.

Blackburn under Kean have been leaky but I think that's was due to pressure from the owners to play better footy, he seems to realise they haven't got the players to do that so they seem to have gone back to being solid. Blackpool is a different kettle of fish, they won't/can't defend and I always fancy Arsenal more away as the pressure isn't on them as much to attack and they can pick off teams on the counter, RVP for me this week.

Horses I've back 5 with small bets: What A Friend, Silver By Nature, Hello Bud and a couple of outsiders I can't remember.

Footy wise I like result accumulators on the 3pm Prem Kick Offs, unlikely to come off but they work out at like 90/1.

Good luck with that - he should do OK - if he nets you 20 points or so you'll fully deserve a move of about 20,000 up the overall league table.

If it pays off, it will be so much more satisfying than (c)ing RVP.

        Still mental, though 😀

Captain choice is tough this week outside of the fave Lamps, looking at your team it's not a bad choice but his form since coming back is 1,1,2, not exactly inspiring. Depends on who you transferred in this week as an alternative along with RvP.... and how sick you would feel if you didn't follow your hunch and he scored heavily!

thanks zissou but could he at midday, straight after deadline? Off on hol and got exactly right money to get him in but already taken 4 pt hit so was going to swap him for Coleman tomorrow afternoon.

            Yep, that's no problem.
Changes happen at around 1am. He won't go up tonight but there'll be a big influx I imagine tomorrow morning, so he'll def go up at 1am Sunday morning.
            You have until then.
Don't make the transfer till after the game at 3pm.
