Having analysed the options in Defence in yesterday’s first instalment, we turn our attentions to the midfield area. A trio of Emirates showdowns brings Arsenal’s two main protagonists into focus, while Chelsea and West Brom’s upcoming fixtures also play a prominent role in recommendations for the next four-to-six Gameweeks:

Three home games in four see Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil occupy the top two spots in this week’s Midfield standings. While the latter has somewhat struggled for form on the road, with one assist in five appearances, it’s been a different matter altogether at the Emirates – Ozil has produced 35 points in three fixtures in front of his own fans. Ramsey has racked up 30 points over the same trio of matches and with Southampton, Hull and Everton paying visit, in addition to a trip to Cardiff, the duo look poised for further Fantasy points. The potential return of Theo Walcott would certainly influence matters but for now, Ramsey and Ozil hold steady until the winger’s comeback is cemented.

Eden Hazard replaces Oscar once again as our chosen Chelsea midfielder. The Belgian is starting to pick up in consistency, with four goals and a pair of assists in his last five appearances compared to a single assist in the first six – he has West Ham, Sunderland, Stoke and Palace in the upcoming five to help continue his climb up the standings. As always with the Blues, uncertainty over the lone forward role elevates their midfielders in our Fantasy thinking.

With a goal and assist in the last two, Stephane Sessegnon is starting to hint at a consistency for West Brom. The 6.6 priced Baggies summer signing has home games against Villa, Norwich and Hull in the next six and also faces a trip to Cardiff –coming in at 5.2, Morgan Amalfitano offers the budget route into Steve Clarke’s midfield but needs to improve upon a record of one assist in five.

Back in the Liverpool starting line-up after recovering from a shoulder injury, Philippe Coutinho was highly unlucky not to pick up the points in the previous Gameweek at home to Fulham. A role on the left of a 4-4-2 lends the Brazilian plenty license to drift centrally and wreak havoc – at 8.5, with a 5% ownership, he has a trip to Hull and home games with Norwich, West Ham and Cardiff to get his Fantasy season up and running.

With David Silva still sidelined due to a calf complaint Yaya Toure is our premium City option in the centre of the park. The Ivorian has already notched five times this term and has back-to-back home games with Spurs and Swansea up next before trips to West Brom and Southampton; at 8.1 to Toure’s 9.6, Samir Nasri, with attacking returns in six of his 11 appearances, is easier on the budget and also has real differential appeal, with just 3% ownership.

While Hatem Ben Arfa has to be content with warming the Newcastle bench, his team-mate and compatriot Yohan Cabaye has been picking up the points. The Frenchman has scored or assisted in four of the last seven for Alan Pardew’s side and welcomes Norwich and West Brom to Tyneside in the next two, with a trip to Swansea also on his short-term agenda – the downside is that he sits on four yellows, just a single caution away from a one-match ban.

Finally picking up the points his underlying statistics have hinted at, Robert Snodgrass has a varied schedule over the next six. Home games against Palace and Swansea look potentially profitable, as does a trip to Sunderland – down to just 5.9 in FPL, he remains firmly under the radar, with an ownership less than 5%.

As many as three Stoke midfielders found the net in the previous Gameweek and while Marko Arnautovic was not amongst them, the summer signing still keeps his spot in this week’s refresh. The Austrian continues to offer plenty of goal threat and with four home games and a trip to Hull in the next six, is relatively kind on the budget at just 5.5.

West Ham’s Ravel Morrison also remains in our thoughts despite his appearance on the Suspension Tightrope – like Cabaye, he’s a yellow card away from a one-match ban. A goal away to Norwich last time around took the 4.8 priced Morrison’s tally to three for the season – he now has home games against Fulham and Sunderland and a trip to Palace in the next five.

Still troubled by a quick return from hernia surgery, Robbie Brady’s owners have been left frustrated as Steve Bruce tries to nurse him back to full fitness. With a fortnight’s international break helping his recuperation, Hull’s top scorer is expected to be fit in time for this weekend’s home clash against Palace – Brady also squares up to Swansea and Stoke in the next five as he looks to rediscover the form which harvested three sets of double figures in the opening six appearances prior to injury.

Southampton’s Adam Lallana has a tough schedule on the horizon. The Saints skipper has been in sensational form – a goal or assist in five of the last seven has helped him up to third in the midfield rankings but with Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Spurs in the next six, he may struggle to maintain his consistency.

All the Ronaldo fan-boys, hand to heart, if you are a team owner / manager today, and you are given the choice -- all else equal -- to bring in one of Messi OR Ronaldo, do you seriously take Ronaldo?

I am obviously biased -- both for Messi & against Ronaldo -- but trying my best to be objective, how does one chose Ronaldo?! Even if you consider that their skill / contribution to the team is similar (shameful to even suggest that), but even so, do you bring in this primadona to your team / dressing room?

Look at the Blatter video. It's an argument used time and again despite very little supporting evidence.

Neither current nor former team-mates have ever said this nor current or former managers.

In fact Jose went so far as to say that he had this idea about Ronaldo, until he worked with him.

There is OVERHWLMING supporting evidence on a daily basis in the media and otherwise please don't try and suggest Ronaldo is a nice, quiet lad, just one of the guys. That's just absurd.

I never suggested that at all.

I'm merely suggesting that much of this 'prima-donna' talk is just talk. Much of it stems from his early years, when it was about the hairstyles and the step-overs

But to be as good as Ronaldo is requires hard work as well as talent. Clearly Ronaldo HAS knuckled down and worked hard to improve himself. Could any other player have carried Portugal to the semis of Euro 2102 the way he did?

as I have already stated, but good to have some back-up 😀

Fergie used to go on and on about how much Ronaldo practised.

In fact if he was more concerned with his image that his football then why was he usually the last player to leave training as he wanted to stay and work on his skills?

While I am more of a Messi fan you must be careful. Messi has had injury issues, pretty serious ones given his childhood condition. Nobody can predict how that will impact his career or how long he will be able to play at the top. Ronaldo, as far as being a serious injury liability, is much safer. So at least present all the facts first.

Ronaldo, he knows his own game very well and will produce game in game out in exactly the same way. Very easy to manage. And on that basis personality doesnt even come into it because as a manager you dont have to try and control him, just play him wide left and make sure the other ten players on the team know their own roles.

Human nature dictates that people must choose sides and endlessly berate the other side to make themselves feel better. Humans aren't very understanding beings when someone disagrees with their opinion.

As I said I understand people choosing sides, personally as a United fan I look out for Ronaldo a little more.

But I appreciate Messi immensely, some of the things he's done and goals he's scored surely anyone would be mad to disregard?

People are mad when it comes to this stuff. For me, both are very different players, different positions and different attributes. For people who make their decisions solely based on who is better in FIFA they say "Oh look one of them scored 1000 goals, the other scored 1010, that first guy is sh*t".

Both have things that go against them too, Messi is younger so arguably has more time to become even better but his injury issues may become more severe. Ronaldo has less time on his hands and is very often portrayed as the "villian" of the piece. Lets face it everyone loves a little crippled kid who grows up to be the best football player in the world, not the handsome, genetically defined athlete who seems to have all of his talent magically gifted to him (not that this is true, both have worked extremely hard and overcome a lot of issues and challenges but people don't look at it that way.)

I actually think Messi and Ronaldo are not even close talent wise. Messi is well ahead. Ronaldo is just the hardest working player in the world and he deserves respect for that. Just look at how the man is built and that jump for the headers and power does not come from nowhere. But skill wise Messi is in another world IMO.

Hayley McQueen, whom actually worked with Ronaldo on this 'primadonna' tag:

“It really annoys me when I hear that description of Ronaldo,” admits Hayley McQueen, the Sky Sports News presenter who worked for United’s television channel, MUTV, during Ronaldo’s spell at the club.

“He was always really polite to everybody at the club and I remember how he would indulge Kath, the lady on the reception at the training ground, who has probably been at United for 40 years...and then put on a Mancunian accent, 'Eh up, Kath, do you want a cup of tea?' before bringing one back for her.

In the last four game weeks, lukaku has averaged 5.2 touches in the penalty are per game versus 2.8 for remy. If we change it to the last three weeks, it's 6.3 versus 2.7. From a points perspective, remy has managed more points than lukaku despite playing chelsea and spurs and having half as many touches in the area.

He is about to play Norwich who got destroyed by City.

It's actually a big issue at the highest level of sport. Many wind up suffering a fair deal of mental anguish and depression. It's hard for many of them to not be the big thing any more. It sounds crazy to suggest but it is true, for many of these guys at the very top all they know is football.

Exactly, a fair few. Then you have the other lot that gamble it away, others still who may have been making good money but seeing as their career is so short they don't have enough to fund a good enough retirement. It's a strange thing to think about sometimes, footballers that retire and then suffer depression or wind up flat broke. You just don't expect it!

I shall still remain firm on the point that Ronaldinho, despite any of his off pitch antics, had the entire package and was the most rounded and best football player ever to date.

    Messi vs Ronaldo debate continues..

    Who is better looking?
    Who has nicer hair?
    Who has bigger muscles?
Who would win in an arm wrestle?
Who would get more girls at a party?
Who has their own underwear line?
