Carlos Tevez lasted less than quarter of an hour before departing the proceedings with a troubling hamstring injury at Anfield. Andy Carroll opens his Liverpool account and Kenny Dalglish displays his continued faith in youth as a sorry Man City were torn apart on a wet Monday night at Anfield. Here’s the notes on last night’s action…

Andy Carroll
The big-money signing looked closer to full fitness and tore into City’s lacklustre defence, grabbing a double and bagging all 3 Fantasy Premier League Bonus Points for his efforts. Priced at just £6.2m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Carroll’s partnership with Luis Suarez is still a work in progress but the pair showed glimpses of the force they will undoubtedly become, given time. The deadly duo look like being a real prospect in the Premier League next season and Liverpool fans must be savouring the 2011/12 campaign with relish already. Expect a big leap in his Fantasy price next term.

Up next this weekend is a trip to Arsenal, though Liverpool should have little to fear going into the Emirates trip if they keep up this level of performance. There follows two home matches against Birmingham and Newcastle which offers a great chance to boost that points tally in the fight for sixth place with rivals Everton.

Kenny’s Faith in Youth
Martin Kelly has already had game time until his minutes were curtailed by a hamstring injury, Jay Spearing is deputising (with great effect) for the injured Steven Gerrard, and last night saw Academy graduate John Flanagan become the latest youngster to get a chance under Kenny Dalglish. An injury to Carlos Tevez saw Flanagan line up directly against the Argentine’s replacement Mario Balotelli for the vast majority of this match and it’s a tribute to his assured performance that Balotelli made so little of an impact that he found himself subbed off before the match was through. Dirk Kuyt also deserves a mention for his all-action display in front of Flanagan on the right wing, as he tracked back to help the youngster and charged forward time and again in a performance that culminated in a well-deserved goal.

Carlos Tevez
Less than quarter of an hour into the game and disaster struck for City. Carlos Tevez limped off the pitch with a hamstring injury that will surely keep him out of this weekend’s FA Cup Semi Final with Man United. Post-match, Roberto Mancini certainly seemed dubious of his star forward‘s chances of making the Wembley clash. With City having no league match this weekend, Tevez is currently being transferred out in huge numbers with his availability for gameweek 34 and beyond currently far from certain.

City’s Shape
City started with something akin to a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Adam Johnson and James Milner on the wings and Tevez joined by Edin Dzeko up top. Tevez’s injury saw them revert to the more familiar 4-2-3-1, with Milner moving to the middle and Mario Balotelli coming off the bench to play out left, leaving Dzeko alone up front. Regardless of shape, however, there’s no getting away from the fact that City were abysmal.

Mancini Gets All Apologetic
Perhaps with the FA Cup in mind, Mancini left David Silva and Nigel De Jong on the bench for the Anfield showdown. Silva eventually entering the proceedings just before the hour mark to replace a thoroughly disgusted Milner and De Jong came on for Balotelli with less than ten minutes to go. The pair have been two of City’s most influential players this season and it’s maybe with hindsight that Mancini muttered after the match:

“I made a mistake, it was my fault. I’m very sorry for the fans.”

As mentioned, City miss a gameweek this weekend before taking on (bla, WHM, eve & TOT). With Spurs just three points behind -and with a game in hand- the Italian can ill-afford to make any more mistakes if he realistically expects to look beyond this season as the man in charge at Eastlands.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    ATTENTION FORMER MINI-LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!

Any advice on how to maintain a 67 point lead to the end?!!

never been leading at this stage of the season before.

3 rivals behind me keep swapping second place, and have only 1-2 similar players than me, they've gone for differentials big time.

Do I sit tight and limit the points hits, or load up on DGW players for GW 33 and GW 34?

Limit the points hits and try to mirror their points scorers. Its a dirty tactic, but a valid one.

In general, you want to reduce the number of differentials and those that are still there need to be better for you than them.

Plan ahead and bring in players who seem to be string finishers for the season.

I've won mine the last two years, last year only by 5pts and choosing drogba captain, while the others went for RVP.

the key is to stick to your plan. Avoid ludicrous pts hits. If they are differntial mad then no way you can second guess them and no way they will get any consistency together.

    Morning fellas,

Having a bit of trouble with what to do with the upcoming doubles..?

    Foster - Begovic
    Luiz - Terry - Bardsley - Simpson - Coleman
    Nani - VDV - Nasri - Adam - Young
    Tevez - RVP - Odem

Got 2 frees. Thinking of doing

    Tevez & Coleman > Drogs & Salcido

then bench Salcido this week and do Nasri > Dempsey for next weeks transfer....

    Sound good?

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time with Nasri. I'd sell him and Tevez and use the cash to get Lamps or Fabs plus the best striker you can get with what's left over.

I wouldn't do Drogs over Lamps or Fab. At least those two will give you your minutes worth for your money.

Coleman isn't an urgent need to change at this stage as you have enough (3) defenders you can play this week and still have an active one on the bench.

Use your transfers on what's going to get you the most points.

There are two ways you can go. Stick to your tactics (bear in mind they have served you well so far) and buy players to that.

While it does seem like you have better players in those positions compared to your rivals you need to get it in your head that this is of no matter. If you both scored the same points for the rest of the season, you win.

So prioritise those players you want to match first. Doing so AND bringing in others you want, could involve points hits and i think that's ok with your lead. But shouldn't be done lightly.

Adam is better than Barton and is a swap you should be considering anyway

out of the above Carroll is the only one I'd fear. Your players are better.

Well in all fairness you had a little bit of luck with that one for Lampard to do nothing against Wigan and for Friedal to get BP's and for Bardsley to score a goal despite losing a clean sheet, I don't have Lampard either and am struggling to justify bringing him in purely because in the past he has racked up some huge scores.

VDV the only option from those listed really. Nasri got a dgw and Villa fixtures are great.

VDV got double coming up though in a few weeks and has a good record against Arsenal

Nasri should at least get you 4 points at the very least this DGW, you can't really say the same for VDV or Young. VDV has Arsenal at home, and despite current form, I am tempted to leave him in there for such a big game and a game in which I think he can have an impact on. Young then has West Ham, and although it is West Ham, having watched Young at the weekend and where he was positioned (sometimes so deep he was more of a left back - I know they were defending a lead, but I still don't like the idea of him moving back with Agbon playing alongside Bent), that being said, Agbonlahor was absolutely shocking, wasteful at every opportunity, which means Young could be back up next to Bent.

VDV with a double in a few weeks and Spurs set piece guru, Nasri with a double this week, Young with no double but a set piece guru for a struggling to find form Villa, Young for me, and I am actually taking Young out over those other two for all those reasons.

Rooney is still red flagged in FPL despite serving his premier league suspension already, hope this doesn't influence any sheep tranfers out, a cursory glance at the game (which is a sheep move) indicates that Rooney is "unlikely to play" when you hover over the red icon.

Djourou may be back according to reports, but Luiz IN is probably a better option, Adam was very poor against Arsenal, I would be tempted to stick with VDV and leave it until next week despite Adam playing at home.

Alternatively, how about Young OUT Walcott IN, Kelly OUT Luiz IN?

Advice very much appreciated here. I got 71 and I'm currently 89 points clear in one of main mini leagues (86 clear of the other big ML) but both have Lampard and I can see him getting 20-30+ clear and being on my tail.

            Foster Begovic
            Coleman Kelly Luiz Kolarov Simpson
            VDV Nani Nasri Bentley Young
            Carroll Rooney RVP

I really can't see me downgrading any of my 3 forwards, but if I did:
            VDV > ?
            Nasri > Lampard

I'd have 4.5 to spend on the ?
If I took Nani out I'd have 5.5 to spend on a midfielder.

Any thoughts on this? There doesn't seem to be a good mid for 4.5 but for 5.5 there's the likes of Barton.

Would appreciate any and all advice on my team. Am in second place but about 80 points behind my rival in a work league with a good cash prize!

            Foster, Al Habsi
            Luiz, Huth, Kolarov, Coleman, Djourou
            Lampard, Nani, Downing, Meireles, Jarvis
            Rooney, Van Persie, Zigic

I think getting rid of Kolarov, Coleman and Zigic are my priorities. Who to get in?

Get Walcott or Fabs, you can ship Zigic for Zamora or Sturridge next week. You can also bring Hangeland for Coleman/Kolarov next week.

Would really love to get Walcott in this week. Unfortunately, with blank GWs and injuries, I only have one fit defender this week - Luiz, so I'm going to have to bring in 2 defenders this week...

I think Djourou will play at least one, perhaps both games, but it's absolutely worth waiting for more info on that, so late transfers probably the best idea for you this week!

Any news on Djourou? looks like he is my only possible transfer this week.

Even though you need to get rid of Smalling and Kelly maybe, I really don't see the merit in brining Djourou in with those DGW fixtures, they will not keep a clean sheet against Liverpool or Spurs, and are more likely to concede 2 in each game than most games with Liverpools form and Spurs being a local derby.

              How about Carr?

If Djourou starts, they are much more likely to keep a cleen sheet, plus you cant find another starting defender from top2 team for only 4.1m. I only fear he may get injured again. Still I'm probably gonna take that risk.

Planning on keeping hold of Kelly for when he comes back. The plan would be to do Smalling>Djourou.
I know its not the best dgw, but I reckon I will get 3-4 points from him, decent fixtures after that, and also frees up a few extra pennies to try and stretch to bring Carroll in for gw34.

Ridgwell over Coleman, I don't think there's any chance for Seamus to start, while Liam can easily score or assist against Sunderland.

Hi Guys, really want Walcott this week to get him do i:

            1) Straight swap for Nasri (all rivals have him tho)

            2) Swap him for Young (but means doing djouro to any defender and 4 point hit)

            Team atm:

            Foster, (Begovich)
            Luiz, Walker, Simpson, (Djourou), (Coleman)
            Nani, Lampard, VDV, Adam, O'Hara
            Rooney, VP, (Tevez)

Worth a 4 point hit to do the following:

            Coleman -> Ivanovich
            Tevez -> Carroll

            ?

Really? Not think theirs a slight chance Botiswinga might play one of the games? Unlikely but theirs a chance I reckon. Plus if your not playing your Tevez replacement I'd go for Zamora/Sturridge.

Would have to play Carroll as O'Hara has a blank, fancy getting Sturridge for the double coming up but again he also has a blank.

                  Decisions, decisions......
