Carlos Tevez lasted less than quarter of an hour before departing the proceedings with a troubling hamstring injury at Anfield. Andy Carroll opens his Liverpool account and Kenny Dalglish displays his continued faith in youth as a sorry Man City were torn apart on a wet Monday night at Anfield. Here’s the notes on last night’s action…

Andy Carroll
The big-money signing looked closer to full fitness and tore into City’s lacklustre defence, grabbing a double and bagging all 3 Fantasy Premier League Bonus Points for his efforts. Priced at just £6.2m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Carroll’s partnership with Luis Suarez is still a work in progress but the pair showed glimpses of the force they will undoubtedly become, given time. The deadly duo look like being a real prospect in the Premier League next season and Liverpool fans must be savouring the 2011/12 campaign with relish already. Expect a big leap in his Fantasy price next term.

Up next this weekend is a trip to Arsenal, though Liverpool should have little to fear going into the Emirates trip if they keep up this level of performance. There follows two home matches against Birmingham and Newcastle which offers a great chance to boost that points tally in the fight for sixth place with rivals Everton.

Kenny’s Faith in Youth
Martin Kelly has already had game time until his minutes were curtailed by a hamstring injury, Jay Spearing is deputising (with great effect) for the injured Steven Gerrard, and last night saw Academy graduate John Flanagan become the latest youngster to get a chance under Kenny Dalglish. An injury to Carlos Tevez saw Flanagan line up directly against the Argentine’s replacement Mario Balotelli for the vast majority of this match and it’s a tribute to his assured performance that Balotelli made so little of an impact that he found himself subbed off before the match was through. Dirk Kuyt also deserves a mention for his all-action display in front of Flanagan on the right wing, as he tracked back to help the youngster and charged forward time and again in a performance that culminated in a well-deserved goal.

Carlos Tevez
Less than quarter of an hour into the game and disaster struck for City. Carlos Tevez limped off the pitch with a hamstring injury that will surely keep him out of this weekend’s FA Cup Semi Final with Man United. Post-match, Roberto Mancini certainly seemed dubious of his star forward‘s chances of making the Wembley clash. With City having no league match this weekend, Tevez is currently being transferred out in huge numbers with his availability for gameweek 34 and beyond currently far from certain.

City’s Shape
City started with something akin to a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Adam Johnson and James Milner on the wings and Tevez joined by Edin Dzeko up top. Tevez’s injury saw them revert to the more familiar 4-2-3-1, with Milner moving to the middle and Mario Balotelli coming off the bench to play out left, leaving Dzeko alone up front. Regardless of shape, however, there’s no getting away from the fact that City were abysmal.

Mancini Gets All Apologetic
Perhaps with the FA Cup in mind, Mancini left David Silva and Nigel De Jong on the bench for the Anfield showdown. Silva eventually entering the proceedings just before the hour mark to replace a thoroughly disgusted Milner and De Jong came on for Balotelli with less than ten minutes to go. The pair have been two of City’s most influential players this season and it’s maybe with hindsight that Mancini muttered after the match:

“I made a mistake, it was my fault. I’m very sorry for the fans.”

As mentioned, City miss a gameweek this weekend before taking on (bla, WHM, eve & TOT). With Spurs just three points behind -and with a game in hand- the Italian can ill-afford to make any more mistakes if he realistically expects to look beyond this season as the man in charge at Eastlands.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    yo dudes,

need some advice for this dgw.

i have fat frank already (almost captained him in gw32...wooo that was close!)

i have JT and RVP and am thinking of selling Tevez out for luiz and taking a hit on bent...

    team reads..

    Al habsi

Terry, huth (out for luiz), Vidic,

    Adam, Lamps, Downing, Nani, barton

    RVP, Tevez (out for Bent)

    subs: Jose Enrique, Eardley, Ameobi.

im chasing a rival by 18 points and moneys on the line and most importantly pride....

im prepared to take a hit (8 max though)

what do you guys think i should do to jazz my team up this week?

I would agree with bringing in Luiz, maybe you might want to keep Huth as he has a double coming up, if you shift out Tevez and bring in Carroll for example then you will be able to free up funds elsewhere so take out Eardley instead perhaps for Luiz?

If you chasing a rival, I know its cheeky but look at his team and see where you can improve upon it, maybe bringing in Walcott would be a nice differential as he's not pricey, i would if i didnt have Fabregas.

Just my opinion, but not sure why all the Djourou love for this week??
Yes he is cheap and is (was) good, but
    1.He is still a doubt,
2.Even IF he plays he will be rusty
3.Even if fit(ish) cant see Wenger risking him first game back v Suarez and Carroll, so would only play 1 away v Spurs!
4.Arsenal WILL concede in both games imo and the week after, lehmann is looking like a huge mistake waiting to happen (he got lucky v Blackpool not getting sent off!)

Right, new answer for the pear puzzle on the previous page:

    A: 98
    B: 0
    C: 1
    D: 0
    E: 1

Because working backwards you get the following matrix:

    person sharing pears (reverse order)
    E D C B A
    A x x x x 98
    B x x x 99 0
    C x x 99 0 1
    D x 99 0 1 0
    E 100 x 1 0 1

This makes an almighty assumption, that these desertees are ruthless, intelligent, problem solving aficionados who believe that if they propose something unfair, that the others will accept this and not murder them for their pears.

But surely if it gets as far as D's proposal, D will propose 100 to D, 0 to E and take the 50/50 majority vote. There's no incentive for D to offer E a pear

Pretty mad how the best offer so clearly favours A, even though it being rejected would lead to him getting f*ck all.

Without thinking about it you'd initially rejected that proposal as completely ludicrous.

how does this look (already have VDV - Lampard one so this will be an 8pt hit)

Coleman -> A.cole (have luiz already)
    Tevez -> Carroll

thoughts? or should i do the standard Tevez -> Drog/torres

    @ Jamsiep:

Just saw the riddle now, thought I'd give it a shot. Might all be wrong though.

My distribution would be 98-0-0-1-1. It seems all A needs to do is to please D and E, which doesn't really take to much. The votes of B and C can be regarded as lost.

E has to realize he will get nothing if D is to distribute, 1 if C is to distribute, 0 if B is to distribute (as D will be offered 1 and will gladly accept, as there is no way he is getting anything from C, who will get his offer accepted by E no matter what).

D will get nothing from C distributing, and 1 from B distributing, and so 1 is the maximum he can expect (he would get 100 from his own distribution, but that ain't happening when E is voting).

(C would not accept a 50-50-0-0 offer from B, as he would get to make 99-0-1-0)

Hence D and E will have to be happy with 1 each, as they are getting no more anyway (with B and C offering, one of them will lose out on their one pear).

    Way off?

      Nearly right, it *could* work although there's no guarantee that D will accept as he knows that B will offer: B - 99, C - 0, D - 1, E - 0

If you work it from the back:

      E: 100

      D: 100, E: 0

      C: 99, D: 0, E: 1

      B: 99, C: 0 D: 1, E: 0

      A: 98, B: 0, C: 1, D: 0, E: 1

For A, it's all about offering two others better deals than they would get in B's proposal, in order to get a majority. And given both C and E would get nada in B's proposal, it's requires the least pears for them to accept.

But as D is capable of seeing perfect logic, he will understand his maximum is 1 anyway, as B will no way give him more than 1, and just accept and get on with it. Right?

Well ... because he can trust D to understand this, as they are all supermen intellectually. But to be absolutely sure, I guess 97-0-0-2-1 is fine.

No. It's only seen by people who follow you, and even more than that, it's only seen by people who follow you and young Rory.

Your message will appear in McIlroy's 'mentions' section, so there's a chance that he will see it when/if he looks in there (dunno if celebrities actually bother because they get so many messages), but it's unlikely given the volume of messages he'll receiving right now.

Your brother will reinvent the word 'insufferable'.

It'll be fun to watch if Chelsea win.

As much as it would be fun to watch him take on the United mafia, I think you're the better loser.

So if United go through, we want your views. If Chelsea win, put the kid on! 🙂

              It will indeed!

But, honestly, I think he'll be a damn good signing for you. Maybe not exactly great value at £50M, but I think he'll eventually get back to his old ways.

Even though he was at Liverpool, he was probably my favourite player in the league during the first two seasons he had there. Absolutely brilliant.

So do I, and I just hope that there is a massive overhaul in the summer - as Wilson suggests.

This season is obviously beyond repair for him but I think he'll get more than 20 goals next season.

What does 'value for money' even mean when talking about someone like Roman? It's clearly not an issue for him.

It's like criticising Citeh for signing Milner and co, when in the actual price is completely meaningless to them. Obviously you can still criticise them for actually signing the player himself.

Me too, I think the criticism is over the top. He's having a shocking year, and no one thought he'd suddenly start getting hat-tricks just by being at a different club. He'll be fine next season, once Drogba (and Anelka probably) are out the way.

But ridiculous media pressure comes with the territory, I guess.

"Perhaps Avram Grant did little management in getting Chelsea to the 2008 Champions League final, but at least he had the wit not to change a shape that worked."

I'm not being a Grant fan here but that is a good quote.

After my earlier Djouou rant, just realised he is only 4. mil now, could do Young/VDV and Coleman to Lampard and him for 4 points!!

Or should I just do Nani to Lampard this week, then Nasri back to Nani next week? Will only lose about .4 mil

          I don't know my friend.

To me it doesn't make sense to pay 3m more for a poorer player. Don't you have VDV or someone to get rid of instead?

I suppose it depends if ManU get to CL final and if league is wrapped up come gw 38. What you think JU, will Fergie rest players in last game?

Or will he just bench players like Rooney /nani and let them come on to "experience" the joy of winning title?

Game vs Blackpool could mean big points and could effect many mini leagues.

I'm more than likely going to do it man. I reckon Valencia will still be a treat in away games where Nani is non existent.
