While Luis Suarez failed to match the performance and points tally of his devastating midweek showing, the Uruguayan did more than enough to justify the Fantasy armband as his dragged Liverpool to another four goals and three points at Anfield. Elsewhere, Norwich City’s rollercoaster season continued, with a Dutch raider coming to the fore to emerge as the latest midfield differential to consider.

The Game Changer

He’s making it look easy. Just as Robin van Persie threatened to kill off the art of the Fantasy Football captaincy in previous seasons, Luis Suarez is doing all he can to remove the skill and insight required to make that crucial decision each week.

Quite frankly, it’s a brave Fantasy manager that overlooks Suarez. Even on an off-day, his threat to the opposition is so substantial, Suarez almost accumulates points almost through force of will. Today, against West Ham, the Liverpool striker produced a far from vintage display – missing opportunities and being phased out of the match by some disciplined early defending from the visitors.

However, a fortuitous own goal, from which Suarez earned one of two assists, handed Liverpool their opener and that paved the way for another comfortable Anfield victory and another double figure Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points haul for Suarez.

While Aguero, the nearest rival to Suarez’s claim for the armband, notched once again, Suarez is set to outscore him with a sixth double figure points tally in ten league starts. Fourteen league goals and seven assists, over those matches underlines the fact that Suarez is as near to an essential Fantasy asset as any player is likely to become this season.

The Underused

Leroy Fer’s third league goal in five starts must surely bring him to the attention of the Fantasy masses. While we’ve long been acquainted with the erratic returns of team-mate Robert Snodgrass and the budget potential of the tricky Nathan Redmond, it’s Fer who appears to carry the greatest potential for points amongst Chris Hughton’s inconsistent charges.

Owned by less than 1% of FPL managers, the Dutchman’s raids from midfield have been a recent feature of the Canaries play – a benefit of a formation change from Hughton that has fielded Bradley Johnson and Jonny Howson in central midfield, allowing Fer the freedom to support the lone striker. That’s brought three goals for and, even with a price tag of 5.8 in the FPL, it’s surely time to consider Fer as a credible short-term option as Norwich embark on a run of three home fixtures in four: Swansea, Fulham and a beleaguered United due at Carrow Road before the turn of the year.

André Schürrle was the day’s other big points scorer, although his brace at Stoke was not enough to prevent Jose Mourinho’s side slipping to a damaging 3-2 setback. At just 7.1 in the FPL, we’ve long looked upon the German as a potential differential who could offer value as the season progresses. While today’s haul was his biggest of the season, it was also his first league start in six as Mourinho’s midfield continues to tease and toy with Fantasy managers attempting to identify alternatives to the established targets – Oscar and Eden Hazard. In truth, it seems unlikely that we will ever get assurance of a third candidate, even Frank Lampard was rested back to the bench today to frustrate his recent investors.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'd be very tempted by Silva if he looks likely to play at the weekend. If not, it seems like there's a decent chance he'll feature against Bayern, which suggests he's not too far away... If not then Ozil is probably your man, definitely an option regardless of fixtures, given Arsenal's form and how central he is for them.

No problem. Yeah team value is important in the beginning of the season IMO when we are all trying to adjust our teams. But it won't be so important come the second half of the season. It's never that way at least. But this has been a very weird season so far (for me at least). Good luck!

Not sure if this is just a knee jerk to the lack of clean sheets today, but what do people think about shifting to a cheap defence to allow for a stronger front eight now? Currently my team looks like this:

    Gazzaniga (Davis)
Johnson - Terry - Chico (Gabbidon - Rosenior)
Ozil - Ramsey - Hazard - Whittingham (Barkley)
    Suarez - Lukaku - Aguero

But if I downgrade Chico and Terry to 4m/4.5m defenders over the next couple of weeks, I could afford to upgrade Barkley to Silva in time for Fulham away in GW17 (depending on fitness... I could get Oscar/Walcott/Gerrard instead). I'd probably do GJ to an Everton defender afterwards, given their respective fixtures, so I'd have just one 'big hitter' at the back really. Worth it?

This time of year the biggest priority is fielding starters.

Ronaldo got 31 goals, at least 8 assists, 17 CSs, 30 starts, 4 sub appearances, 5 ycs and a red.

That's 252 points without bonus, so you'd think that would be more than 284.

    Afternoon all.

What a weird season this is. I rolled over a transfer this week because I couldn't decide what to do - I now have two freebies again but still can't decide what to do. I mean, I've got most of the players I want, can't afford the best of the rest and don't want the ones I can afford.
The in-form defenders are either Everton or Palace while the mids are Fer, Bannan and Cabaye. What the hell's going on?

Hi all.. I'm looking at team for Gw16 and wondering what to do.
Players in CAPS will play at home.

    Migs (Lewis)
    TURNER - TERRY - Evra
    HAZARD - Ramsey - Ozil - RAVEL
    LUKAKU - Suarez - AGUERO
    Sub: Lallana, Vlaar, Ward

Double Gunners away to Man City is a bit worried, but can't bench one of them and play Lallana (new). Is there anyone worth to switch Ozil to?

A: Chelsea mid .. Best fixture but no one nailed on except Hazard.
B: Everton mid .. Mirallas? But he's not nailed on too.
C: City mid .. Probably too soon for Silva. Not sure if I want Yaya now.

    What do you think?

How will Gerrard's injury impact Coutinho's Fantasy points? Since Coutinho's return we'd already begun to see him steal a few of Gerrard's set pieces, however, Gerrard continued to be a model of consistency. Does this injury now put Coutinho back under the spotlight? Would you consider him and essential transfer into your team?

No, but it does improve his appeal, as he will be on almost all set pieces now. Interesting to see who will be on pens. Probably Suarez, but he's pretty crap at them.

I was thinking Coutinho would shoulder Gerrard's consistency from now on with atleast an assist every game. Shouldn't be too hard with Suarez's trigger-happy playing. How is Coutinho's rapport with Suarez?

Very good, he links up well with everyone really. How he didn't get anything from yesterday is beyond me. Gerrard got those points as his delivery is second to none. Coutinho's isn't at that level, although with more responsibility this may improve.

I'm surprised with all the talk going here about economical midfielders that Sterling has hardly got a mention! At 4.9,he is very affordable and could have easily scored a few yesterday but for some wonderful saves from the keeper. With Sturridge out,he should be nailed on as Moses did absolutely nothing to rest his case
