The day’s early kick-off dominates the day and hearts and minds of Fantasy managers as a midfield heavy-hitter announces his return, just as a vital component of the template attack suffers a potential injury setback.

The Game Changer

Fernandinho’s two-goal salvo amongst City’s six goals were clearly up there with the day’s major contributions but, in Fantasy terms, Theo Walcott’s brace for the beaten visitors will have more of an impact.

Handed his first start since his return from injury, Walcott followed up on his two assists from the bench in Gameweeks 13 and 15 with two goals and a double-figure return that will have Fantasy managers on alert.

While Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil have rightly dominated our thinking within the Arsenal midfield to this point, Walcott offers a more explosive alternative with a proven record for goals. Having notched 14 goals and 13 assists last term, Walcott has pedigree and, in a World Cup year, the incentive to impress over the remainder of the season.

While many will contemplate just how today’s devastating defeat will impact on Wenger’s troops, Fantasy managers will now be assessing Walcott’s credentials and perhaps examining the option of trading out Ozil or even Ramsey to capitalise on a player who is capable of surpassing both in the midfield rankings.

With under 4% ownership, Walcott could be a real asset for those searching out a differential with the potential for explosive double-figure returns.

The Selection Poser

While our midfield options appear to have increased, today’s early kick-off may have delivered a major blow to our forward lines.

Sergio Aguero’s withdrawal early on in the second half at the Etihad caused tremors throughout the Fantasy Football community.

The Argentine had earlier notched thirteenth league goal of the season – his third in three outings. A calf injury then ended Aguero’s day, with Manuel Pellegrini later stating that, at this point, he was unsure just “how many weeks he will be out”.

Such a statement would suggest that Aguero will sit out the Gameweek 17 trip to Fulham – although that is far from certain given the hurried prognosis.

A scan is imminent and, fortunately, City’s midweek Capital One Cup tie will bring Pellegrini in front of the press microscope once more.

Very soon we should be clear on Aguero’s situation and at that point we can begin to asses whether it’s worth holding a player who, in recent weeks, has threatened to achieve “essential” status.

A term of absence could signal a shake-up. Aguero is an injury-prone asset who may take time to recover from a spell on the sidelines. While he’s is a vital cog for Pellegrini, the City boss has options with Edin Dzeko, Steven Jovetic and the possibility of a 4-5-1 system helping him to cope without his start striker – Aguero will not be rushed back.

Focus will now switch to Wayne Rooney at Villa tomorrow. Returns for the United man will cement his likely status as the obvious replacement to Aguero, although, given City’s goal output, some will surely consider Alvaro Negredo. The Spaniard claimed his seventh of the season today and has scored in all of City’s last five home matches.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    I want an honest answer.

    How many of you thought Walcott is "highly likely" to start against City?

    "Team news" section did say Theo could poised for a start but I was convinced it'd be either Cazorla or Arteta (Ramsey shifting to Wing as Arsenal would want to prevent City's devastating attack). Besides "Team news" backed Cazorla to keep his place.

      Just saying. Blame is on me. But I definitely wouldn't bench Theo if I had seen his name on Arsenal's predicted starting line ups in "Team news" section.

      They were spot on with benching Mirallas though. It was a choice between Kevin & Theo for me & I opted Everton home over Arsenal away at Etihad.

      My reasoning for -12 is-

      Aguero would certainly get 0 points, Terry would not get more than 2 points vs Arsenal away. That leaves Sess vs Hull who are solid and Sess's form is woeful and may even get dropped now that there'll be a new manager. Ramsey is the only concern.

      But I do back the trio of Negredo,Silva and Walcott to recover the 12 points and Molsson doesn't have a bad fixture as well.

    Thanks for those who answered earlier. Still pretty much inconclusive.

    Aguero seems to be out til New Year. Bought Aguero at £11.2 so I can survive a drop to £12.4 before doing anything.

    But is this a good move.

    Aguero -> Rooney
    Ravel -> Silva
    and is Ramsey -> Walcott (-4) worth it? Or just wait til next week before doing it?

    My next transfer in line will be Ivanovic out for Burner, so it will also be pushed back a week.

        Honestly never been a fan of him. Crazy I know. Late on the boat though still got some of his hauls.
        Been thinking about doing Ramsey to Walcott from the moment I got him. Just waiting for the right moment.
        Was planning to do it sometime soon (Ravel -> Silva this week, Ivan to Burner next and Ramsey to Walcott the GW after), but his hauls yesterday just got him into everyone's radar.

        But yeah I get your point on Ramsey being a season keeper. Good stats, nailed on currently.

        Might just hold onto him a while longer before doing the Walcott move. And especially not for a hit.

        I'm talking sense aren't I?

        I should just do Aguero Ravel to Rooney Silva, yes? or even Negredo?
        With Negredo I would probably able to upgrade Burner to Mertesacker

    The odd part about waiting until there is more news about Aguero is that I'd probably consider this move even despite the injury:

    Aguero, Lallana --> Negredo, Walcott

    Oh well, I might as well wait now

    The one brightside for someone like me that already had Rooney; would be the price hike that should come with people jumping on the bandwagon.

    Shipping Rooney for Aguero may be something I need to consider after Aguero returns... so I'm really hoping Rooney rises and Aguero falls like a brick.

          Yup got Coleman at 5.0. Cheap defence has done the biz this week! 10 9 6 for 13mil starting value. I'll take that 🙂 plus another cheapie would allow

          Ramsey hazard ozil silva
          Suarez Rooney lukaku

          With the option of ozil > Walcott to free up another 1.1m to go back into defence. Quite like the balance.
