The day’s early kick-off dominates the day and hearts and minds of Fantasy managers as a midfield heavy-hitter announces his return, just as a vital component of the template attack suffers a potential injury setback.

The Game Changer

Fernandinho’s two-goal salvo amongst City’s six goals were clearly up there with the day’s major contributions but, in Fantasy terms, Theo Walcott’s brace for the beaten visitors will have more of an impact.

Handed his first start since his return from injury, Walcott followed up on his two assists from the bench in Gameweeks 13 and 15 with two goals and a double-figure return that will have Fantasy managers on alert.

While Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil have rightly dominated our thinking within the Arsenal midfield to this point, Walcott offers a more explosive alternative with a proven record for goals. Having notched 14 goals and 13 assists last term, Walcott has pedigree and, in a World Cup year, the incentive to impress over the remainder of the season.

While many will contemplate just how today’s devastating defeat will impact on Wenger’s troops, Fantasy managers will now be assessing Walcott’s credentials and perhaps examining the option of trading out Ozil or even Ramsey to capitalise on a player who is capable of surpassing both in the midfield rankings.

With under 4% ownership, Walcott could be a real asset for those searching out a differential with the potential for explosive double-figure returns.

The Selection Poser

While our midfield options appear to have increased, today’s early kick-off may have delivered a major blow to our forward lines.

Sergio Aguero’s withdrawal early on in the second half at the Etihad caused tremors throughout the Fantasy Football community.

The Argentine had earlier notched thirteenth league goal of the season – his third in three outings. A calf injury then ended Aguero’s day, with Manuel Pellegrini later stating that, at this point, he was unsure just “how many weeks he will be out”.

Such a statement would suggest that Aguero will sit out the Gameweek 17 trip to Fulham – although that is far from certain given the hurried prognosis.

A scan is imminent and, fortunately, City’s midweek Capital One Cup tie will bring Pellegrini in front of the press microscope once more.

Very soon we should be clear on Aguero’s situation and at that point we can begin to asses whether it’s worth holding a player who, in recent weeks, has threatened to achieve “essential” status.

A term of absence could signal a shake-up. Aguero is an injury-prone asset who may take time to recover from a spell on the sidelines. While he’s is a vital cog for Pellegrini, the City boss has options with Edin Dzeko, Steven Jovetic and the possibility of a 4-5-1 system helping him to cope without his start striker – Aguero will not be rushed back.

Focus will now switch to Wayne Rooney at Villa tomorrow. Returns for the United man will cement his likely status as the obvious replacement to Aguero, although, given City’s goal output, some will surely consider Alvaro Negredo. The Spaniard claimed his seventh of the season today and has scored in all of City’s last five home matches.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Mignolet - Lewis
    Terry - Coleman - Chester - Collins - Kos*
    Haz - Ramsey - Ravel - Sess - Brady
    Suarez - Lukaku - Aguero*

    2FT 3.2m in the bank

Been thinking Ramsey + Aguero to Wally + Rooney

If he's out, then you need to prioritise Ag. Removing Ramsey makes no appeal as he's terrific value for his price.

      Do Ag->Roo

Sess, Brady, JT, Kos are all worth removing.

Downgrade JT to a uber (Ward or Burner) so that you can boost the midpark by removing See the following week.

Currently on 37 with Suarez (c) & Mignolet to play. Gauging by everyone's scores mine isn't that flash.
Unlike most people I'm not selling Aguero as I had other trades I want to do & also I can get away not playing him in gw17
It will be a tricky gw with my Ars/Che players up against each other.

    Mignolet
    Jagielka, Terry, Mert
    Hazard, Ozil, Ramsey, Cabaye, Oviedo
    Suarez (c), Remy

    Boruc, Burner, Clyne, Aguero

Which option for my 1 ft. Terry has become a liability & Clynes supposed knock seems more serious than Sou are disclosing.

    (a) Terry out, Zabaleta/Coleman/ Distin/ Curtis Davies/ Chester in
    (b) Clyne out, Chester/ Ward/ Williamson in

Are these the best moves or are there others I'm missing.
    Thanks in advance.

Pundit out of those two I'd go for the second option unless you really bought Rambo in late and won't lose much value on him. None of them are bad transfers so I can't really fault you, though I'd go with Ward (CRY) over Molsson and save yourself another 0.2. I did one -12 earlier in the season and it did pay off (-4 of it was wasted though as I brought in Silva only for him to get injured so then had to change him too, gutted), so if you really feel like you have to do it then go for it, but my team was in way worse shape back then than yours is now.

Pondering 4 transfers this week myself so can't say much about you not doing it!

Really want some City cover when they have Fulham and Palace in the next three. If I get rid of Aguero I'd be without any City cover.

Don't trust United defense atm. Would rather go cheap and beef up the midfield.

What -12 point moves would you make. Sess is the only really move I would make. Unless Aguero is hurt for more the 2 weeks or you don't like having the oscar hazard combo.

I would take the second one with Rooney. If I had to take a -12 hit. I think you could spread those moves out and take less a hit. But your call of course.

If you have the desire to take a big hit, I suggest you just do the essential short term moves now and play your Jan wildcard early (gw20)

After all that is what wildcards are for. If you get your team perfect with a load of points hits, your wild card will be relying on DGWs which may or may not materialise

        Good point that.

But my concern is that the likes of Silva,Walcott,Rooney may score well during the next 3 gws leading to the Jan WC and I may well not afford that team then.

Moreover Walcott and Silva are differentials atm which they probably won't be after 3 weeks.

I'd get Rooney now. He is the one that will rise big time.

Walcott will play Chelsea next week (although they are bad defensively, I think it is ok to wait a week)

I wouldn't be that worried about not having Silva. He is nowhere near as explosive as Walcott so less likely to damage you in his absence. I've got a similar team to you and most probably doing aguero-rooney this week, then sess-walcott next week.

The issue is if Walcott rises 0.3 I can't (got 0.2 left after those moves!)

    Terry out, Coleman in
    Aguero out, Rooney in

or just use my ft to do the Aguero trade & leave Terry in

    Mignolet
    Jagielka, Mert, Terry/Coleman
    Ozil, Ramsey, Hazard, Cabaye

thinking about my gk issue...currently have boruc/myhill...i will start myhill next gw with hull @home but need a gk from gw18

1): do boruc >>> xxx in gw18 and start xxx every gw till gw23 when i use my WC
2): take out both boruc and myhill >> marshall + speroni who rotate perfectly till WC, require an extra transfer though

I presume most ppl would say A...if so, who would be best option:
A: howard: SUN,SOT,sto,NOT,wba,liv....already have distin so doubling up
    B: de gea: hul,nor,TOT,SWA,che,CAR
C: speroni: avl, city, NOR, tot, STO, HUL...cheaper and get save points in tough games
D: marshall: STO,SUN,ars,WHM,mci,mun..3 super tough games, but more save..will mean doubling up with burner in the home games

i think howard or marshall are the best options even if it means doubling up on eve or cardiff...the question then is the 1m diff in savings that could potentially be used somewhere else and if i go howard, thats my 3rd eve player whereas i was also eyeing mirallas as my 3rd eve player

    thoughts?

Yes sir! I am in the same predicament as you with Terry and Aguero. This was Terry's last chance for me, and another fail, though he might just last another week because of other pressing issues. I was half thinking of an Aguero to Rooney trade anyways. I like your ideas for transfers. That Mert is killin' me because my mini league leader has him.

I was considering negredo in (instead of Rooney)

But on second thoughts, Rooney is nailed on for 90 mins every game in the festive period. That is very valuable. I do think his fixtures are harder than they look on paper though. I expect city to score more than manu but probably spread between more players.

I think my choice may be determined by Rooney's performance tonight, and the subsequent price rise if he does well.

Anyone else considering the same decision?

      basically mirroring my thoughts 🙂

Negredo is a bit of a rotation risk. however, his link-up play with the others is great and he may chip in with a few assists as well.

On the other hand, Rooney will play, is on pens etc. and if Kagawa comes good, Rooney will get many points 🙂

Can any one know what could be wrong?
I think not get any profits on my sales..because when I sell a player..even though the value increased..I still sell him at the Same price I bought him..
Eg I bought aguero at 11.8..now his value is 12.5..I understand am supposed to sell him at around 12.1..but it’s still selling at 11.8..

I can't decide on which transfers to make as I could happy do a WC and change 5 or 6 if I still had it available. Having already done Kun -> Chamakh my team looks like this:

    Pants (Migs)
Coleman, Terry, Kos, B Turner, Clyne
    Hazard, Silva, Rambo, Ravel, Delph
    Suarez, Giroud, Chamakh

Have 1 FT left and 7.7 in the bank. My next move atm is Delph -> Wally which will leave me 2.9, but also gives me 4 Arsenal. Obvious move therefore is Giroud -> Rooney for a -4, but that still leaves Kos out injured, so I prefer Kos -> Shawcross and give Giroud one last chance. What do you think?
