The Members’ Paddy Power Cup had it’s Grand Final this past Gameweek, where Kippax Kloggers and The Hunt went head-to-head. At stake was a great prize of £150 worth of free bets from sponsors Paddy Power for the winner, with the runner-up having to make do with a consolation prize of £75 worth of free bets. Also in action this week was Zophar and Roostars, competing for the third-place. This is how it all played out…

Kippax Kloggers 114 – 89 The Hunt

On any other week a 25-point winning margin would be considered an absolute drubbing, but Wednesday’s Fantasy points-fest makes the gap a little unfair on The Hunt. The tie did appear all-but-over before the midweek action though, when Kippax Kloggers pulled out well-reserved wildcard, but a strong Florent Malouda showing on that final day secured the win for him, who now sits at a season-high 991st in the world. Congratulations Kippax Kloggers, but please take care of your new trophy better than Sergio Ramos did his.

Zophar 80 – 85 Roostars

Our third-placed play-off was a much tighter affair, and it somewhat highlights how well both our finalists did this week. Roostars has his forward-planning to thank for his victory, as his score of 85 didn’t come after having points spent on transfers deducted.

So, to recap…

  • 1st – Kippax Kloggers
  • 2nd – The Hunt
  • 3rd – Roonstars

Congratulations to all and thanks for taking part, and to our sponsors Paddy Power. There will of course be similar cup competitions for our Members next season in addition to our free non-members Cups. News on how the latest round of our current competition unfolded, together with the latest draw, will follow shortly.

I was gonna bring in Zamora for Beckford but didn't push the butoon as Totalfpl suggested he was protected(I appreciate it's only an indicator) but he's now gone out of my price range by 0.1m ho hum...

Whats allt his about nani probably being rotated this GW?? Even on the team news they dont have nani starting. It seem unbelievable. I must win game for united and nani who has the best home form of any player wont be playing. I can't see it somehow!

      Team:

      Foster/Al-Habsi,
      Coleman/RJ/Simpson/Luiz/Djourou,
      Nani/Nasri/Barton/Lampard/Adam,
      DJ/RVP/Drogba.(0.0 in bank,1 free transfer)

For a 4 pt. hit,Nani->Dempsey and DJ->Sturridge.Yay or nay?Wanted to sell Nasri instead of Nani but just saw that I'm falling 0.1 short for those two transfers.Or I could just do Nasri->Dempsey and avoid the hit as I've taken hits for the last two gameweeks?Still think the 4 pt. hit for Sturridge will pay off. What do you guys think?

Then for a hit, Adam to Ethers?? ,

Hey TM, i was just looking at last man standing league, you seem to still be in it too. Doesnt seem with the number of weeks left that it would get down to one team at the current rate they've dropped teams. do you know exactly how it works?

Haven't seen him post in ages etc so school work & other things have gotten in the way of the running of it. I should have been out ages ago. Might just delete myself from that league instead.

I had a look at Nasri's scores on FPL since the turn of the year and was shocked to discover that he's managed a score of 5 or more on only 3 occasions 😡

He's getting booted this week along with Waster Lennon. Far too trusting, that's me ?:

I have a concern with some Stoke players being rested over this week. They have 3 games in a week so someone like Carew may come in for Walters? Annoying this may be the home game v Wolves.

Possibly si. However, STK are only 4/5 pts above the relly zone so they'll need to put out a decent team. Just can't see Pulis dropping an in-form player right now.

                    Your trades this week?

Not saying they are going down - or up for that matter. The fact is they can still go down so there is motivation to put out a good team.

Good point, Bill. I think I was a bit too dismissive of Stoke's position in the league.

God knows what I will do. Still walking around shaking my head at bringing in Bale last week. He just always lets me down...in fact I was expecting him to get 2 points and he didnt even manage that. Think I will swerve the DGW players....think. Kind of hope Bale is injured so I can get rid already!

Look what's happened with SUN who are suddenly in a scrap. Could get interesting if WIG or WOL start winning their better fixtures.

Yeah these dgwers are pure red herrings. Quite a few on here seem to be buying them in just for this week 😕

The main decisions around the DGW will be who to have -

            Dempsey or Zamora
            Ohara or Jarvis
            Walters or Etherington

            I'm thinking Zamora, Jarvis, Ethrington.

There are about 100 DGW players that are quite tempting but none that are must-haves. Cannot seem to make a case for really dropping anyone for them. Dempsey leading the captains poll is ridiculous. Drogba only 6% even more so.

I'd consider one transfer this week and save your second to get in two Man City players for their DGW - more potential than any of this weeks doubles imo.

BTW - why not just play Walker? 'm a Stoke fan - we suck away from home (unless it's Wembley!).

Sorry for the repost guys, need some advice!!

            My current team is:

            Al-Habsi (Foster)
            Luiz Vidic Walker (Coleman) (Kelly)
            Barton Nani Fabregas Adam Lampard(C)
            RVP Carroll (Odemwingie)

I have 1.4M in the bank.

My current idea was to bring in Begovic for Al-Habsi, then perhaps bring in Hangeland for Coleman?

I wanted to get in either Zamora or Etherington but if so would be looking to either take out Barton (Blackpool away) or Odemwingie and further I wouldn’t even know how to bench given that Adam if fit to play!

Any ideas on what transfers I should do?

I'd consider getting Schwazer and Huth over Begovic and Hangeland.

Clean sheet potential is obvisouly the same with both combinations but I reckon Huth has more chance of bagging at the other end should defensive returns not materialise.

              Rvp Carrol Rooney

On the Twatterverse grapevine, pretty much every football writer is denying having voted for Scott Parker. What a surprise.

As with Bale's award, Parker's nod is symptomatic of the plucky underdog coronation that is endemic in British Football and which holds us back so much.

I bet the hacks in Spain are at this minute voting Jiri Jarosik player of the season for keeping 'plucky' Zaragoza in the hunt for survival. Not.

West Ham have been woeful, Parker mediocre in comparison to other players this season. If i were Nani, Vidic, Nasri, et al then i'd be embarrased.

Are you forgetting that he is a defensive midfielder who has done well in this role? Perhaps his promotion to the national team vindicates this award.

I can see what you're saying Bill, but I don't get the logic.

Matt Jarvis / Jordan Henderson have been promoted to the national team and have 'done well' in their roles in as much as their team's have struggled and their individual talent has not been sufficient to drag the rest along.

And, you don't seriously see Parker being an England regular do you?

The logic revolves around a player who has had a good season that, has amongst other things, been rewarded with a place in the national side. Whether he becomes a regular or not is irrelevant. The fact is he is playing well enough to be rewarded with a cap.

No saying he hasn't had a good season. But a good season is not a great season.

If anything, a better shout in this role for the award would be Charlie Adam.

Probably not. If Plato can't define 'good' then I will struggle at doing a job with 'great'

However, look at the below figures.

                          9,7,43

                          5,3,25

                          9,18,25

Each set is goals, assists, bonus points for 3 players Nani, Parker and Adam. Guess who is the lowest?

People may say that's arbitrary, but if we cannot make decisions based on statistics then what can we do?

Parker has had a good season, but others have had greater(sic) seasons.

...errr...so you are basing this award on fantasy football points of players who play in different positions?

Not sure the Football Writers had much look at them tbh. It's very unrealistic to compare three players who play in different positions and have different roles for their respective sides.

Now address goals and assists which quite clearly were in my post too

I mentioned bonus points as a comparative, but the goals and assists scored by all 3 players are nothing to do with Fantasy, they are real stats.

The bonus points are a subjective stat. No one is certain how these points are awarded. Once again, this is hardly a fair comparison of three players in different positions doing different jobs for their respective clubs.

                              Bill.

put the bonus points out of the equation. look at the goals and assists for each of the three players that i put earlier:

Parker: 5 Goals, 3 Assists this season

Adam: 9 Goals, 7 Assists this season

Nani: 9 Goals, 18 Assists this season

Now, statistically both players have been stronger than Parker. That coupled with a West Ham team languishing below Blackpool makes it a bit harsher on Charlie Adam don't you think?

I have never argued for bonus points or any other fantasy stat that you can think of in this debate. In fact, leave stats out of it because I'm pretty sure the aforesaid footy writers didn't consider any such cannon fodder. Three players: different roles;different positions;different clubs; Forget comparing fantasy stats or I'll dredge up some Opta stats for tackles or something where no doubt Parker will look good.
Redknapp offered 10 mill for Parker and Capello reckons he's good enough to play for England. I think those in the game recognise Parker to be a decent player enjoying a good season for his club. How about that? 😉

Quite. I reckon a few more Parkers and a few less Rooneys, Gerrards and Terrys is just what the England team needs. Those big club celebrities don't care about their England performance as much as their clubs.

That comes at a price though, which is that our breed of bright young things are not as good as the Germans, French or Spanish.

I agree completely with fewer of the Rooney types, but we have to then calibrate our expectations on what can be achieved.

Who said the coaching isn't working?

Acadamies may not be working due to most players getting to a critical level whereby they make or break.

Take 2 recent examples: Scott Sinclair and Jack Wilshere. One is thriving due to Wenger backing him at an early age (Arsenal may me suffering lack of trophies due to this philosophy) Sinclair is having to go the back door route by dropping divisions due to lack of opportunity at first team level.

The players are there. The opportunity isn't.

So the players are there and they are not getting any oppos. Must admit, I wouldn't say England are flush with young hopefuls at this moment in time.

I disagree. If players are good enough, they'll get their chance. Scott Sinclair isn't.

Sinclair had his chance at Wigan and failed it.

Expectations? My expectation is a dire showing at a major tournament, highlighted by one decent performance against a side who should know better, some controversy that goes against us, and a quarter final exit on penalties. If we're lucky.

We suffer from national amnesia every 4 years when we have the usual publicity whirlwind of "the golden generation" and "this time we've got a real chance".

Maybe in 96 I had some optimism, maybe in 2002, but not any more...

They do, but that's because they train player how to pass the ball better, have better tactical awareness, and adapt to play in different roles.

Thinking about playing N'Frogbia over Nasri this week. Have I lost it? I've got RvP like everyone else and I think it could be a good idea to spread it a bit. NZog is the only obvious BP hogger from that game too if Wigan get some kind of result. Other midfielders are Adam, OHara and Nani.

I dont think many DGW players are worth it. They're not likely to score heavily and you'll only want to punt them on.

                Yaya is a good shout.

If that's the transfer you want to do, boring as it is, you could just sit on it?

Agree that the DGW could be a fatal attraction this week though.

As some one mentioned above ,Nasri has 3 scores above 5 points this calender year.

Arsenal don't have the greatest fixtures and I already have RVP

Dempsey, Etherington or Walters would be my DGW options. Yaya's looking plum, but how about Silva?

                        Got Ethers 🙂
Wouldnt want 3 Stoke players after this week,so that rules out Walters.

Not feeling the love for Dempsey!
Poor fixtures after the double, and he isn't playing in that rewarding role either.

Both have good fixtures and Yaya is in reasonable form.

the bonus with YaYa is the DGW coming up in the next few weeks.

Do you think he is going to score 4 more points than Nasri and City are terrible away from home.

Fifth worse away form in the league.

Ya his upcoming double was the reasoning behind considering him.

But that stat is very interesting.
                      It has made me reconsider.

Somebody will score more points that the hit for sure - but picking them is an absolute lottery.

Also need to consider if you will want that player after the DGW - most of teh DGW teams fixtures are medium to poor for the rest of the season. If you will be wasting another transfer to get them out it might be a bit of false economy.

                Are you chasing or leading?

Sturridge Possibly - Not the greatest DGW but good games afterwards.

this DGW will be overrated, i know theres a few names being banded around but seriously, id be surprised if any of them got more than 10 between the 2 games, definately not worth a hit for.

Sorry for the repost but want some opinions.Team:

                Foster/Al-Habsi,

                Nani/Nasri/Barton/Lampard/Adam,
                DJ/RVP/Drogba.(0.0 in bank,1 free transfer)

                Which is the better option:

                A) Nasri->Dempsey and Adam->Etherington for -4 (if Adam is out).

                OR

                B) Nani->Dempsey and DJ->Sturridge for -4 (can't sell Nasri,falling 0.1 short).

Seems like now is the time to go Nani >> Van der Vaart (went Van der Vaart to Malouda last week instead of Nani to Malouda, but Nani started and played the full 90 so I don't really think it was a bad move). But with uncertainty over the weekend fixture, VDV facing West Brom and a DGW on the horizon seems like I should make the trade now. It would be for a 4 point hit though....

nasri and carroll are better players than dempsey and zamora imo, and could easily get the same or more points in one gw, plus saves you a transfer for the run in

I currently have 2.0 left in the bank.

I’ll be honest, I’ve not seen much of this wandering Walters to form an opinion, but quite a few people are saying it’s laughable and unfathomable why people would buy him. However I think a high % of these people are possibly saying this to appear more of an authority figure.

So, has anybody seen Walters play and apart from the OOP what would you say he offers to the team. Does he look dangerous when he’s on the ball for instance or just got lucky with some tap-ins for instance?

He’s in my mind, but only going off stats and I normally like to mix Stats with gut instincts and what I’ve seen of the player.

The DGW player chasing this week is daft in my opinion.

I've not seen much of Walters because he's hardly lit up the prem this year and reeks of short termism.

I doubt I'll go for him but it's not daft as he's on form and they have Blackpool after.

I'd say it's more down to the fact that Stoke seem pretty awful away than Walter not lighting up the Prem.

64 - Chelsea have earned fewer points after 33 games than in any season since the takeover by Roman Abramovich. Pressure.

Im starting to get the Rooney armband itch.

Reading the berbatov doubt tweet kinda starting to sway me, i know its not that significant, Rooney would surely start either way, but knowing thats its that more certain. He has a history of performing well against his old club doesnt he?

Indeed. There are worse choices. I think United will win that 2-0 or 3-0.

Quite correct I've been seeing stats to back that up.

However, he's on form and United are very good at OT.

I'd prefer to captain Nani over Rooney though, but going for RVP.

Scott Parker has been named FWA player of the year.

Jamsiep is going to love that.

                  Hey guys,

My team at the moment is:

                  Foster, Begovic
Baines, Walker, Samba, Luiz, R Johnson
A Young, Malouda, Nani, Nasri, Adam
                  RVP, Rooney, Zigic

I have one free transfer this week. I am thinking of downgrading one of Baines, Samba or R Johnson to make enough money to then do Zigic OUT, and one of Zamora, Carroll or K Jones in.

The question is - which would be the best one to downgrade out of Baines/Samba/R Johnson and who would be a good replacement?

Who would you bring in for Zigic out of Zamora/Carroll/K Jones - I'm thinking Zamora? Yay or nay?

If you can see any other moves I could consider, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any help!

                  Better cobination for this weeked?

Lampard + Hernandez (no tranfers this week)
Swap Lampard and Hernandez for Drogba + Dempsey/VDV(4 POINT HIT)

Third option is to keep Lampard and Hernandez, swap Nasri for Dempsey or VDV

I would be quite happy to just leave my team, but am gettign caught in my league and competitor has Drogba (aswell as Lampard). Seems like not have Drogba at the moment is just silly, but maybe Lamps will bang them in this weekend instead.
