Gameweek nine is concluded today with the final three fixtures taking place. The first of a televised double-bill, sees Manchester United take that dreaded annual trip to the Britannia Stadium.

There’s no surprise that Wayne Rooney is an absentee for the visitors, and that hands an opportunity to young Javier Hernandez to partner Dimitar Berbatov upfront. Elsewhere, Gary Neville gets a game a right-back, pushing John O’Shea into a midfield position.

The home side line-up as predicted. Boring…

Stoke City XI: Sorensen, Huth, Shawcross, Faye, Collins, Pennant, Wilson, Delap, Etherington, Walters, Jones

Man United XI: Van der Sar, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, O’Shea, Scholes, Nani, Hernandez, Berbatov

Then it’s off to Eastlands for the interesting match-up between Man City and Arsenal, where I need a Tevez no-show to stand any chance of a round three place in the Fantasy Football Scout Cup III.

That games kicks off at 4pm, but before that (and untelevised thankfully) is Blackburn’s visit to Anfield at 3pm.

For up-to-the-minute fantasy updates, head over to our Dugout Discussion for the day’s action where, if Morrissey1986 is in attendance, you’ll get goal alerts before they’re even broadcast.

Delighted. Rooney not playing, Berbatov will outshine Peaface and O'Shea gets a chance in midfield to express himself and make some probing killer passes. Right foot Left foot head. The chap is a genius whatever way you look at it

Would be great. I can't believe they've really said they will spend all that as well as giving Rooney ridiculous wages. He really is bigger than the club if thats the case.

Although if its true it's a good thing for the team as a whole.

Gary Neville had him on lock in the Allianz last season. That's quite embarrassing considering what Ryan Jarvis did to Neville just a few weeks earlier.

i remember a few years back when there was talk of them joining the perm everyone was wondering how they'd do and there was talk that, whilst they might not win anything they'd be solid prem teams..

Boring argument, that people don't think through. They have the structure to be good prem teams, but they cannot attract the players in the SPL. If they move to the Prem, they obviously will be able to. Are you seriously saying they're not as good as West Ham, Wolves, Stoke etc. Rangers drew with United and Valencia, while beating the Turkish champs. Think about it!

The SPL is rather dull at the moment no doubt, but your EPL only appears to be good at the moment due to the vast sums of money being thrown around by clubs who cant really afford it. The other thing is that most of the real talent in your league are non english players. the drogs, fabs torres and van persies of this world. a point not missed by Mourinho when he was ripping to shreds englands reasons for failure in the World cup.

Every game that released on both looks better on the xbox because it's easier to programme for. The Ps3 is a massive fail, it's still losing Sony money. The only thing it's got going for it is the bluray, but even that's meh.

That seems the consensus, but I don't know what is wrong with PS3 online.

Tbh though I don't like playing online. Firstly it requires much more concentration and skill. Secondly you often sit about waiting a game to start or wait while your opponent messes around with his settings (eg. changing a team line-up in fifa). Thirdly, people sometimes just quit halfway through a game. And fourthly, you can't pause to take a piss or answer the phone, etc.

Obertan was never the next big thing.

In reality he was a player who never cut the mustard ar Bordeaux and was left to leave for a tiny fee as they felt he would never mature or live upto the promise
he showed in underage set up.
United having little money to spend hoped they could improve him. It hasnt worked.

Its not the great english prem that attracts the good players, its the ridiculous salaries that are being offered. Your not trying to tell me that any good players would take a drop of lets say £50k per week to play in England as opposed to Holland because its a more competitive league. If you do, I think your dillusional.

if you look back DB i said i agreed that it is boring. the reason is obvious. we are not competing on the same financial level as other clubs, ie not running up huge debts, the last scottish clubs to try that were celtic and rangers and they suffered because of it. ableit at the time celtic were a really good club during that period. do you spend that amount of cash and risk going down the portsmouth road or do you tighten the purse strings, have less on the field success but live to play another day. p.s Setanta didn't help, bloody Irish for ya 😛

Obviously money plays a big part, but if it was all about the money, all the best players would be off in the Qatar league.

I'm sure a lot of players would still choose to play for someone like United or Chelsea at a cut price, because they're successful clubs with lots of talented players.

Like a lot of people, I'm looking at getting Fabs in if he escapes the clutches of DeJong this afternoon. I have to ship out Malouda, VdV or Nani to do this and it's a tough decision.

It was interesting to read this on the Chelski site...

If you look towards the top of the Barclays Premier League scoring charts there are two Chelsea men tying second - Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda - each a goal behind leader Carlos Tevez who has seven.

It is a pleasant surprise for Malouda, though he expects to be overtaken by others sooner rather than later.

'I don't have this striker's mentality, I just want to be on top of the league,' he explained. 'If I score I am happy but I just want to win, we have a winning mentality, it is unusual for me to be on top of this list, I don't think I will be there at the end of the season but I really enjoy it.'

Also looking at the form guide VdV is second, Nani is fourth and Malouda is currently eighteenth. So it looks like it's going to have to be Malouda but I'd like to hear your opinions.
