Once again, there’s plenty for Fantasy managers to ponder as we head towards next Tuesday’s deadline. Here are the scenarios and line-ups we’re keeping an eye on this time around:

Mirallas’ Form in the Middle
Since moving to the role in “the hole”, the Belgian’s attacking potential has taken a turn for the better. With Ross Barkley stuck in the Toffees treatment room with a toe injury, Mirallas has notched in back-to-back league games for the first time this term and is finally beginning to justify our show of pre-season faith ahead of the Merseyside derby at Anfield . Owners of the misfiring Romelu Lukaku are looking for a way out in order to free up a space in our three-man frontlines but, with Villa, Palace and West Ham rolling up to Goodison in three of the subsequent five, investment in the Toffees’ attack still looks a viable tactic. If Mirallas impresses against Liverpool, he may find himself subject to increased investment as a midfield option, allowing Lukaku owners to jump ship.

Vertonghen’s Impact on the Spurs Back-Four
Having trained with the Tottenham first-team all week, the Belgian played 60 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly and is set to return to action for Wednesday’s home clash with City. Whilst a clean sheet isn’t expected, Vertonghen’s comeback is at least likely to indicate the central defensive pecking order under Tim Sherwood – Vlad Chiriches and Michael Dawson have played every minute in the heart of the back-four since the departure of Andre Villas-Boas but one of the pair are set to drop out as Vertonghen reclaims his starting berth. With Younes Kaboul, Sandro and Paulinho also back in action on Thursday, we may get a better gauge of Sherwood’s preferred first-team next midweek.

Johnson’s Right-Back Replacement
Ruled out “indefinitely” by Brendan Rodgers after struggling to overcome a series of injuries, the defender’s absence opens the door for a cut-price option at Liverpool. Granted, the Reds have hardly been the most resilient side but, with Kolo Toure lacking the mobility required to be utilised efficiently at full-back, fit-again Jon Flanagan (4.3) and Martin Kelly (4.1) are set to battle it out for a regular role in Johnson’s absence and hand Fantasy managers another budget regular.

Sturridge’s Role for the Reds
Daniel Sturridge’s return to the Liverpool starting line-up saw Brendan Rodgers change formation in order to accommodate the fit-again forward last weekend. Liverpool started with a 4-4-2 against Villa but, after being outplayed in the middle of the park in the first 45 minutes, the Reds boss switched to a 4-3-3 to wrestle back control of the game. If Rodgers continues with a lone forward system, Sturridge may find himself out on the flank against Everton instead of alongside Luis Suarez through the centre – such a scenario may see some reassess his acquisition, with plenty of forward alternatives stepping up right now.

Mata’s Impact on the United XI
With Jose Mourinho confirming Juan Mata is set for a medical at United earlier this lunchtime, the Spaniard’s imminent arrival at Old Trafford will hand Fantasy managers an immediate chance to freshen up their five-man midfields. Initially, though, injuries may determine where Mata is utilised – if Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie are still absent for the visit of Cardiff, the new boy is likely to be handed the role in “the hole” behind Danny Welbeck, thus affecting Adnan Januzaj’s position within David Moyes’ starting XI. Given that the teenager has started seven of the last eight, Moyes may even look to ease the pressure for risk of burn-out, thus potentially depriving us of a budget midfield option, with the Spaniard tasked with providing the creativity instead.

Jose’s Teamsheet
Mata’s expected departure and Fernando Torres’s knee injury has resulted in increased Fantasy interest in Willian and Samuel Eto’o over the last few days. Willian has now started six of the last eight and, while the arrival of Mohamed Salah ensures the competition for places on the flanks remains just as intense, the 7.5-priced (0.4% owned) Brazilian’s recent displays suggest he remains in the driving seat. Eto’o’s hat-trick against United also brings him onto our radars at a time when that third forward slot looks more crucial than ever. Certainly, his chances of another start look good, bearing in mind Demba Ba has started just twice all season for the Blues – if he gets the nod against West Ham next Wednesday, his 1% ownership could also make the 8.2-priced Cameroon international the ultimate of differentials.

Ozil and Giroud against the Saints
Subject to substantial sales over the last few days, both may be on their last chance for many a Fantasy manager. With a single assist in five, Ozil has been sold on by over 55,000 Fantasy Premier League managers – more than any midfielder – with team-mates Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla offering in-form alternatives amongst Arsene Wenger’s side. Giroud, meanwhile, is third most unpopular forward this week, with over 36,000 parting company in light of a record which has seen him score in just four of his last 16 league appearances. The duo’s prospects are boosted by the news that Dejan Lovren is out for Southampton at St Mary’s – many may choose to hold as a result of the Croatian’s absence, but if the Gunners duo blank again, the exodus may pick up pace.

Chester’s Defensive Replacement
A cut-price favourite around these parts, the Hull centre-half is sidelined for “at least six weeks” after limping out of last week’s loss at Norwich with his second hamstring injury of the season. Fantasy managers still holding winter wildcards may look for a cheap alternative route into Hull’s backline ahead of a kind run of matches which sees Steve Bruce’s side travel to Palace, Sunderland, West Ham and Cardiff and play host to Southampton and Newcastle in the next seven Gameweeks. Alex Bruce, with eight starts in the last nine, looks an obvious alternative at 3.9, though the likes of Paul McShane and Abdoulaye Faye (3.9 and 3.8) could come into contention as the Tigers boss looks to his fringe players to step up.

Worked on this some more from last night. Enjoy 🙂

Look.. if you had Juan shot
    Or Juan opportunity
To seize the player you always wanted..
Woodward you capture it.. or just let it slip? Yo...

His palms are sweaty, Moyes weak, chequebook heavy
Wenger moans about Mata already, Mourinho's fretting
They sign Salah, on the surface he looks quick and ready
To cross the ball, but he keeps on forgettin'
When he goes down, the whole crowd groans so loud
He gets up, but the yellow card's already out
He's choking how, everybody's joking now
The starts dry out, he's on the bench, from now!

Snap back to reality, oh here comes Matic, he knows
He's so dropped , but he won't give up that easy, no
He won't have it, he knows Jose's back's to the ropes
The fans know that he's dope
    He's on a slippery slope
    He's so stagnant, he knows
When he goes back to his Kensington home, that's when its
    Sold back abroad again,
    Oh this whole transfer fee
Better hope they see sense and overpay to re-sign me

You're gonna lose yourself in the squad, at the moment
You sign on, you're never gonna make the team
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime...

And then you send yourself out on loan, but when the fans
Begin to groan, you better get ready to go, go
You only get two shots, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes twice in a lifetime...

I've used my WC this week but still considering who to put in. This is my current team with no money left to spend. doesn't feel as strong as it could be.

    Mannone Adrian
    Mertesacker Coleman Mariappa (Bruce, Bennett)
    Hazard Yaya Cabaye Januzaj (Gnabry)
    Suarez Ageuro Bony

Looking at a fairly regular 3-4-3 formation, rotating the GK and 3rd defender according to fixtures. My 3rd striker position is up for grabs (Welbeck or even Dzeko if Negredo is injured for a while).

    Would appreciate any comments.

    thanks 🙂

      Good overall: but -
      - Is Adrian Nailed? Not sure
      - I'd downgrade Mert to Kos/sagna unless you got him cheap.
      - I would worry about the gametime of your 3 cheapies.
      - Get rid of Gnabry to someone like jedinak who will definitely play
      - I would personally upgrade jan as I think his gametime will be impacted by Mata.

Prefer Bony to your other options

        Thanks! appreciate the advice.

not sure about Adrian, most people seem to think he's now 1st choice.
downgrading Mert could be a good shout
I prefer someone exciting like gnabry or even pozuelo to the likes of jedinak. rather take a chance on maybe getting 5-10 pts off the bench than knowing the maximum I'd get is 2! I take your point though.
Zaha at Cardiff could be tempting as a cheap midfield option.

        cheers.

Guys thoughts on this team? I think i am close to what i need

    Boruc, Adrian
    Kosc, Ivan, Coleman, Olsson, Vlaar
    Hazard, Yaya, Lallana, Cabaye, Ki
    Aguero, Suarez, Adebayor

I am not so keen on Ki as 5th mid but don't know who else to go for. Noone's gametime seems to be in question with Zaha's arrival
Cabaye > Ramsey when he returns

Pretty sure Collins will be starter now that he's back. Won't play him all that often - Vlaar/Ward/Collins will simply rotate according to who has the best fixture.

As for Cardiff clean sheets, not sure how they'll do but they have very good home fixtures from now til the end, so willing to take the punt.

I always seem to get close to making a final decision and then bottle it. Do you think one big-hitter in midfield is enough? I wanted Hazard and Mata or Cazorla or Silva, but now I'm wondering if Hazard / Eriksen / Lallana / Mirallas works...

So we are now approaching game week 24, this year like no other it’s important to have a solid captain strategy in the Sky Sports game. This short post will explain how to maximize your potential captain matches over this 5 game week period.

    Game week 24

With this being a midweek game week, if anybody took the advice of D1SABLE then you will currently be sitting with the armband on Lukaku. This will mean he is taking the armband into the Liverpool derby; I would be prone to agree with keeping the armband on Lukaku as he managed a 17 point haul against Liverpool in GW15.

From here if you take advantage of a transfer and swap Lukaku --> Aguero as he is playing on Sunday against Spurs and has a record of 4 goals and 1 assist in 4 games against Spurs.

On a final point since you have not used your captain swap it would be best to swap Aguero to Suarez.

Overview: Lukaku --> Aguero --> Suarez

    Gameweek 25

So we will start with Suarez and have kept the game week transfer in the bank for use later in the week. In this game week it has the potential to pay dividends by skipping the option of having a Saturday captain and go without Suarez approach. Against a West Brom team whom he has already scored a hat trick against this weekend, we will be hoping he can add to that impressive tally at the Hawthorns.

After this game week I would pass the armband onto a Chelsea player, Hazard seems the obvious choice with his set piece abilities, and his record of man of match awards in the Sky Sports game, he may be the key to helping Mourinho get the result he wishes.

    Overview: Suarez --> Hazard

    Gameweek 26

This is the potential game week to make a move with each team playing twice, and why this article may help make an impact on your mini league.

The reason for picking Hazard in the last game week was based with one eye on this game week. Hazard kicks off this game week with a game against Newcastle and while the ordinary Sky Sports player may be tempted to transfer to a player playing the next day I would advise against this and keep the armband on Hazard as he under takes a trip to Hawthorns. Hazard averages a man of the match award one in three games, and also a goal or assist every 2 games so it seems logical that he will make some kind of return in these 2 games.

From here you have two choices to swap the armband to Aguero home to Sunderland in a preview of the League Cup final or Suarez away to Fulham who have struggled to keep clean sheets all season.

    Overview: Hazard --> Hazard --> Aguero/Suarez

    Gameweek 27

There are no games this week but as most Sky Sports fans realise this is a perfect opportunity to set yourself up and use your game week captain change to a player playing on the Saturday in Gameweek 28.

    Gameweek 29

With Man City/Man Utd/ Sunderland/ West Brom not in action this weekend due to League Cup final action. Out of all the remaining fixtures on the Saturday it could pay dividends to go with Hazard away to a struggling Fulham.

On the Sunday after Europa League action it will be up to Swansea/Spurs/Palace/Cardiff player to carry the flag into these fixtures and with the new play maker role for Eriksen it could pay to side with him for the visit of Cardiff.

    Overview: Hazard --> Eriksen

    Summary

In summary with the use of one transfer you have the potential to have the maximum double points’ opportunities over the 5 game weeks. This should set you up nicely for a final push in the final 10 game weeks.

          Defender with a goal and cs - 6+4+2+3bps = 15pts
          Fwd with 4 assists - 12+2+2 or 3bps = 16 or 17 pts

Think I'll just have to absorb this Ozil drop and the 0.1 in sv it will cost me

Want Negredo out for a punt this week. Plus with Coleman out I got Clyne (ARS) or Burner (mnu) to play so may end up needing a defender, what say you guys

    a) Sell now for a 1 week midfield punt (who), sell Negredo -4 and play Coleman/Clyne

    b) absorb the drop and sell Burner

One click from your team page and you see that GW24 starts 1 Feb 11:30. You can use the Jan wildcard until that. so YES it is open until the deadline of GW24

Can Cabaye replicate his Newcastle excellence elsewhere? Manchester United have been linked and interest from Arsenal earlier in the campaign. Wouldn't Cabaye be a perfect fit for Man United? They have been crying out for years for a creative yet combative partner to play alongside Carrick. Phil Jones has often been used in midfield for ball winning abilities but he offers zero creativity going forward. Cleverley is good in keeping passing moves going with short simple passes but he is not incisive enough going forward and tends to get overwhelmed by physical opponents. Likewise, Giggs sometimes goes missing when he's playing against opponents who play a high pressing game. Thus, Cabaye is the perfect solution. He's tough, has a brilliant passing range and offers a goalscoring threat himself. Compared to other big teams, he would definitely get the chance to shine in midfield for Man United.
