John Terry is still sidelined for Chelsea. Billy Jones is a doubt for West Brom. Kevin Nolan has recovered from the groin injury picked up at the weekend. Robert Snodgrass is set for a late fitness test for Norwich. Craig Noone could return for Cardiff, Liam Rosenior is likely to miss out for Hull and Mathieu Debuchy is out of Newcastle’s home game with Tottenham:

Jose Mourinho has confirmed John Terry will remain on the sidelines with the muscle problem that forced him to miss Saturday’s win over Newcastle. The Chelsea boss expects his skipper to return in time for the weekend FA Cup clash with City, though Fernando Torres has recovered from a knee problem and returns to the squad to face West Brom this evening.

Pepe Mel has admitted Billy Jones is a doubt for West Brom due to a knee problem, with Steven Reid set to deputise at right-back if he fails to make it. The Baggies boss also conceded he may hand new boy Thievy Bifouma a start after he climbed off the bench to score against Palace in Saturday, though Jonas Olsson, Nicolas Anelka and Stephane Sessegnon all remain on the sidelines.

Kevin Nolan has recovered from the groin problem that forced him off midway through the second-half against Villa. Mohamed Diame and Joe Cole are both available for the Hammers home clash against Norwich, though Ravel Morrison has been unable to train due to an ongoing groin problem, Sam Allardyce has revealed.

Robert Snodgrass will require a late fitness test for the Canaries. The Scot missed the weekend draw against City with a groin injury and “has a chance”, according to his manager, who will be without Jonas Gutierrez and Ryan Bennett. Michael Turner is back running after a hamstring injury but is “a number of weeks” away.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to have Craig Noone and Kevin Theophile-Catherine available for Cardiff’s clash with Villa. The latter missed out with a knee complain at the weekend, whilst Noone failed to come off the bench after sustaining a muscle strain. Craig Bellamy faces a likely three-match ban after the FA charged him with violent conduct for an incident with Swansea’s Jonathan de Guzman at the weekend.

Steve Bruce has conceded Liam Rosenior is “extremely doubtful” for Hull’s clash with Southampton after picking up a hamstring problem at the weekend. The Tigers boss went on to say he may shift Ahmed Elmohamady or Paul McShane to right-back if Rosenior fails to make it.

Mathieu Debuchy is ruled out of Newcastle’s home game against Spurs with the calf complaint that forced him off at Chelsea on Saturday. Alan Pardew is still without Cheick Tiote and Fabricio Coloccini, though is optimistic on a return for Papiss Cisse.

Garry Monk has revealed Michu has missed training due to a swollen ankle but is still hopeful the Spaniard will play some part against Stoke. The Swans boss also expects Jonjo Shelvey to return to action shortly as he continues his comeback from a hamstring problem.

Pfff. Fulham will be destroyed. The only chance they have is to sit back and defend. But being bottom, I can't see that. If they dare to attack, our counter is ridiculous. 4-0 last time out.

I think they actually will sit back and defend. They may be at the bottom of the table, but differences being very small right now, one point against a big club can be valuable for them.

It's the word "even" that rankles. "Even" despite my brief and instant apology for the poor humour... "Even" despite the fact that I contributed the opinion I had previously intended before my reckless decision to attempt humour waylaid me... "Even" though there is an overwhelming sense of irony that your effort contributed nothing further to the post... "Even" then I would have accepted "That wasn't funny mate".

Yeah Giroud is just awful and Arsenal are faltering. The only thing that can stop Sturridge scoring is an injury. West Ham seem to be on the rise so Nolan could be good too. An even better prospect once Carroll returns as well.

Strong unions, however, also stagnate the economy and often also the politics. They can be very detrimental, when a state needs to change its economic structures (they're not the only thing that causes this, but one of them). To make firing people too difficult causes serious problems both to people on labor market and to entrepreneurs.

Yeh Tube drivers is definitely a good job and they get decent money but the government are often trying to move the goalposts on them which is probably quite annoying I think they really threaten the strikes just to make sure they don't have the piss taken out of them too much with cuts etc!

But it isn't the drivers who are asking for better pay/job security - it is the station staff who do not get decent pay and are getting laid off.

That's how I've understood it. But the thing is that if they have been replaced with machines, and are no longer needed, they are basically going for a strike in order to keep paid jobs without any actual work to do. Which is not very supportable.

Where I live, most of the transports work without ticket offices and everybody is fine with that. Have been to London, and to my mind it seemed pretty simple to keep a minimum of offices to serve those few who really need it (they can my periodical tickets, for example, so they don't have to visit the office on every fecking trip they do), and lay off the large majority of workers.

I heard they were threatening to strike because Yaya was going to get a 3 game ban and all the drivers own him so the FA decided not to ban it and they called it off.

So do they purposely choose to strike on match days for the biggest effect? Or is cuz they wanted to stay home and watch the match anyway?

Its no coincidence. The media are going to cover a strike on a random Tuesday in July but if it is going to potentially postpone the football then its a BIG deal!

basically yes, money conditions, job security.
dont know if it is same in your country, assume all unions are controlled by mafia.
unions are very strong in this country, though not as much as they were.
really depends which side of the fence you sit on as to how you see it.

poor downtrodden workers being fleeced out of rights and money.
rich owners fleecing workers out of rights and money.

This strike is all about the mayor trying to close down all the ticket offices in the stations, something he had specifically promised that he was not going to do when he was running for election. It is not about pay, it is about manned stations, and resisting planned job losses that would lead to a less safe service.

They don't have a tube strike every year, but when they do it is generally down to the fact that the mayor is an idiot.

But if their work doesn't produce anything, these are not, from the point of view of society, real job losses, just cutting expenses and getting people back to labor market from the safety heaven of sheltered work.

Not saying the mayor wasn't an idiot, but he would absolutely be an idiot to invest in machines to do the work at stations and still keep the stations manned so that he basically pays twice for the same job.

Hi all, have had a cracking few weeks and up to 23k but at a loss as to whether to make a transfer this week:

        Boruc
        Baker / Baines / Ward
        Mata / Toure / Hazard / Lallana
        Sturridge / Suarez / Bony

Noone/ Terry/ Bruce on the bench and 1.1m to spend. I'm thinking of upgrading Bruce to a West Ham defender once the line ups are confirmed but open to any suggestions...

I think Pellegrini is playing a mini mind game on Barcelona - he's said a couple of times in his last press conferences that Aguero will miss the Barcelona game - almost like he's making sure that this particular piece of news gets out there.

My prediction, Aguero WILL play in the first leg vs Barcelona.
