Gunners too much for 10 man City, Liverpool beat Big Sam but stay in the drop zone and Little Pea shows his class. Here’s the rest of this gameweek’s Scout Notes…

Man United managed to win away from home in the league for the first time this season thanks to Javier Hernandez’s double at the Brittania. With the injured Wayne Rooney still a few weeks away from a return, Little Pea showed the club have alternative quality options upfront, with a superbly improvised header for United’s first, as he picked up the maximum 3 Bonus Points. Although this wasn’t reflected in the Bonus Point allocation, Nemanja Vidic put in a superb shift at the back to comfortably nullify the threat of Kenwyne Jones, as well as providing the assist for United’s first.

Stoke slumped to their second defeat on the trot and despite a brilliant equaliser from Tuncay giving Tony Pulis’ side brief hope, United took the lead soon after against a largely uninspiring performance from the home side. With their next two games (eve, sun) things aren’t looking too bright for a side who have yet to pick up a clean sheet on their travels all season.

Liverpool managed a narrow 2-1 win against Sam Allardyce’s Blackburn but still remain in the relegation zone. Sotirios Kyrgiakos grabbed a goal and all 3 Bonus Points and although a Jamie Carragher own goal meant they have now went five games without recording a clean sheet, Fernando Torres second goal of the season proved to be the winner at Anfield.

Sam Allardyce’s side had Paul Robinson to thank for keeping Liverpool at bay; the Blackburn keeper recorded 6 saves in a performance which saw him awarded 2 Bonus Points, making it 5 in the last 2 gameweeks. Robinson is now the highest-scoring budget keeper in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, sitting behind Petr Cech and Joe Hart. Carragher’s own goal means no Blackburn player has scored in any of their three October league games.

The fourth-minute dismissal of Dedryk Boyata at Eastlands meant it was always going to be an uphill struggle for Man City against Arsenal. Despite a spirited performance after going a goal behind midway through the first half, fatigue set in come the final quarter of the game, and City were picked off two more times as the Gunners pass and move proved too much for them. Carlos Tevez limped off in the 53rd minute, though the extent of any injury is yet unclear.

Arsenal even had the luxury of a missed Cesc Fabregas penalty in their 3-0 win over City. Samir Nasri once again showed the form that suggests he may be a cheap alternative to Fabregas, with a goal, assist and all 3 Bonus Points in the match at Eastlands. Alex Song bagged the second and Nicklas Bendtner, returning from injury, scored the third after being on the pitch for just four minutes in an overall team performance that delighted Arsene Wenger.

I wasn't expecting it either. Then again, I last checked at 7pm yesterday. I was foolish to believe it wasn’t a possibility, there were seven hours of impulse transfers done after that!

Sad that we needed such an advantage to win one of the bigger teams. Might be just what we needed in terms of confidence.

Ha, the fantasy manager greed gets us all Scotty!

I’d say it was a more legitimate assist than others I’ve seen given thats for sure. He gets a head on it, although so does the defender Watch this space I guess.

If RBJ had Carroll then the assist would be on its way as FPL Towers would be shaking in their boots with the death threat hanging over them 🙂

Ouch, no need to be so cutting my friend! It says 24hrs but it was 48 last week so thats not a concrete rule. Though Pasq came up with a good shout on the reasoning behind that below so I’m almost certain it won’t be given now too.

His red flag was removed on Saturday 16th so (in theory) his price is protected and no transfers count for 6 days. His 'max' value doesn't take this into account but his 'min' value only looks at transfers in from Friday 22nd (when the protection period is over).

Cause is difficult to predict protection period. 7-10 days it is. Sometimes lads that are protected rise or fall. The "Fall" part is even more difficult to predict. So beware is not 100% accurate.

That's correct - there have been many examples of players' price changing while supposedly 'protected'. This '6 days' is a rough estimate. In truth we don't know the protection rules - it could be 3 days for some, 8 for others - and could depend on how long the player is out, whether they've had a price change, overall ownership etc. Some very diligent/clever players have been trying to work it out for a few years now - and haven't come up with a foolproof calculation yet - plus FPL towers make tweaks to the price change rules from season to season. The min/max that TotalFPL provide is the closest we are going to get for the time being.

      Here is my team:

      Harper Carson
      Konch Bosingwa Faye Kelly(ful) O'shea
      N'Zog Albrighton VDV Nasri Malouda
      Carroll Torres Drogba

I have 1.4 million in the bank.

Here are transfers im thinking of doing:
      1) Harper + Torres = Howard + Chemakh/Berb/Hernandez/Tevez
      2) Albrighton + Torres = Nani + Chemakh/ Hernandez
      3) Malouda + Torres = Fabregas + Tevez/Berbatov/Hernandez

Picked Carson over Foster because I had Dann – Changed it last min as I had Foster in all week. Just one of those things, would have done the same again if the game was tomorrow.

Blackpool should have scored as they had plenty of attempts and Fulham offered little apart from the freak goal so was a little unfortunate I would say. The coin toss to play Barton or Scholes came down on the wrong side for me too, ha!

I’d previously not really included Nasri in my thoughts but his form cannot be ignored at this rate. If only he was on penalties.. If Cesc misses another anytime soon, (ie in the next game at Arsenal’s current rate of obtainment!) he may get a look in who knows...

Two piss poor weeks means I've dropped 100k in places.

However, I'm quite prepared to eat humble pie and say that to have someone play defensive midfielder, score no goals, get no assists, get booked, miss a penalty and STILL receive two bonus points means that he has to go in my team.

If Tevez has to be sacrificed, then so be it.

In a non FF related matter: For those who own an iPhone 3GS/4 and have movies/videos that they wish to put on their phones but can't be arsed to convert, I found an app called Buzz Player which costs a mere 59 pennies and for those 59 pennies, you merely transfer the videos into the player through iTunes and plays them effortlessly. Plays most .AVI's I've chucked at it and can play MKV's although I haven't tested one yet.

      My phone is now complete.

What videos? And how long does it take?

I have Windows Media Center and 3 tuners, and currently my PC is constantly chewing through 1tb of media removing the adverts and making 2 conversions. If that app can handle Windows 7's proprietary MPEG2 format, that would be win.

And now Nasri's form is making me confused. I've planned for a Nasri - Fabs swap this week, but with his current form, it makes it difficult to pull the trigger. Especially when said money can be used to do a Jones - Bosingwa and Berba-Tevez upgrade.

So, can you tell me what your thoughts are, people?

      1. Nasri - Fabs

      or

      2. Berba - Tevez & Jones - Bosingwa over 2 weeks.

I gave up last week. My hatred of 4 point hits is something I need to get over to do any good when my team is sick like it is.

err..what's that got to do with anything?

firstly, we're 9 weeks into a 38 week season. Check my history and you 'll find I came in just outside the top 2,000 last year (ie in the top 0.1% of players playing the game) - I had a similar slow start last year

secondly, I was talking about their ability on the podcast, not their ability to play the game

thirdly, those guys are both pretty obsessed with FF, hence the reason they are on here pretty much 24/7 and, I guess, are scout contributors in the first place. I just haven't got the time or the inclination to dedicate the time to playing a fantasy football game that they do; if i did, i'm pretty sure i could easily beat their oh so precious ranking (as I probably did last year anyway).

Fair enough. Everyone plays the game differently. Some take bigger risks than others & play more for fun. Obviously you had Lampard at the end of last season to rocket you up the rankings. Seeing the guys were having their 1st go on the podcast, you could give them some slack. Pretty sure Mark & Granville weren't very good when they first started. Anyway keep up the good work.

This gameweek literally couldn't have gone any worse. Worst score in 3 and a bit years of playing FPL.

      Barton benched for Yaya Toure.
      Hart benched for Carson.
      Drogba Captain.

Then I checked last night and it looked to see if Yaya Toure was going to drop and it looked like he would last until today but he dropped and completely ruined my transfer plan.

      What to do...

      Carson (Foster)
Dann / Elmohamady / Coleman (Alcaraz / Jones)
      Malouda / Nani / Nasri / Arteta / Fabregas
      Drogba / Carroll (Varney)

Can't decide who to field in defence this week - Alcaraz (ful) or Dann (villa)? Both seem unlikely for clean sheets based on away form.

      So do I go

      1. OUT - BALE AND TEVEZ IN FABREGAS AND CARROLL

      2. OUT - BALE AND MALOUDA IN FAB AND BARTON

Urgh, I'm not particuarly keen on either.

Tevez without knowing the extent of his injury is ridiculous and ahead of a favourable run of fixtures.

Also dropping Malouda seems foolish in my opinion. The man's a point machine.

If you link your team I'll give you my full diagnosis! :p

Well I'm stilling thinking Fabs is the way forward this week despite the form of Nasri.

      Early thoughts for transfers:

      Shawcross > Jara
      Bale > Fabregas

      Sound ok?

'Nasri or Fabs' is the new 'Malouda or Lampard' debate.

Malouda proved the right choice in that one and this is the main thing that's stalling me from bringing in Fabs. That and the fact of course that unlike in the past when Nasri only really shone when Fabs was out, he did it with Fabs back which I think is very significant.

I think Nasri may well be worth a punt at least for a couple of weeks so see how it progresses. I also reckon it's now a big risk to sacrifice a biggie for Fabs right now and no way I'm considering selling Malouda for Fabs any more.

Sorry people it's my first season playing this and I wondered if the "Transfers" page on the site is the best way to see how much you have made/lost on individual players in your team (compared to the price you initially brought them for)? Or is there a more quicker and clearer way of seeing this information?

I had a shocker this week (31) and it's killing me. I think my team needs a big shake up otherwise my mates are going to catch up (my lead was 41 points now its only 20). My team is below, anyone have any suggestions?

      Krul (Carson)
      O'Shea Bosingwa Gohouri (Murphy Foley)
      Bale Cesc Nani Adam (Albrighton)
      Tevez Berba Drogba

Don't panic - it's a good side you have there. Maybe downgrade Berba (as you have Nani) for a stronger m/f and get rid of Albrighton (VDV? Nasri?) - and get Mummy in you defence.

That team will come good, probably this week. Cesc could easily have had a goal.

Personally i don't like oshea, but that could be becoz him being subbed before conceding this weekend is the reason i was dumped out of the Cup!
