Last weekend saw the return of Jose Bosingwa to Premier League action after a year-long absence with a knee injury and the Chelsea full-back thoroughly impressed against Mick McCarthy‘s Wolves.

Although Chelsea have both Branislav Ivanovic and Paulo Ferreira as options for the right-back slot, Bosingwa is perhaps the best fit for Carlo Ancelotti’s system and the Chelsea boss admitted as much after the 2-0 win, saying:

Bosingwa was one the best players on the pitch. He put a lot of pressure on in the second half by pushing up without the ball and he had opportunities to score. For 70 minutes he played very well and he is an important player for us in the future because we can use his speed and resistance to play better in attacking play.

A look at this Average Position map from the Wolves game indicates there was not much positional difference between Ashley Cole (no.3) and Bosingwa (no.17) on Saturday and suggests that, within this system, Bosingwa can be expected to mirror the threat of Cole on the opposite flank every time he is selected.

As the Passing Heatmaps below also show, 40% of all Bosingwa’s passes were made in his opponent’s final third of the pitch, whereas only 32% of all Cole’s were. Given that Bosingwa made 50 passes and Cole made 38, it’s fair to say there was more of a threat coming down Chelsea’s right flank for a change.

As a result, Bosingwa made 2 Key Passes that led to Goal Attempts on Saturday, and considering that Cole has made 10 Key Passes in 9 games, it’s food for thought for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, bearing in mind the right-back comes in at £5.6m compared to Cole’s £8.2m. However, for those Fantasy managers giving him the once over, a word of caution: there’s no doubt that Ancelotti will take time in easing him back into the fold, and it’s perhaps worth waiting to see how things unfold over the next couple of gameweeks before diving in. Once his fitness is full, though, it’s feasible that Bosingwa’s impact could see him become a first-team regular if Ancelotti’s comments are anything to go by.

Bosingwa also managed 3 shots at goal and was perhaps unlucky not to find the net, denied by Marcus Hahnemann on a couple of occasions. This was an amount beaten only by Didier Drogba on the day and considering Ashley Cole has had 6 shots at goal all season, it’s further indication of his attacking prowess.

Somewhat bizarrely, despite lagging behind Bosingwa in such critical areas, Cole was still awarded all 3 FPL Bonus Points but if the right-back continues to perform as he did at the weekend, there’s no reason why he won’t soon be offering the kind of returns that saw him bag 156 FPL points a couple of seasons ago.

    Heres a good one:
    Already done Jones to Boswing
So for a 12 point hit:
    Dempsey to Nasri
    Malouda to Fabs
    Tevez to Chamakh
If ARsenal trash West Ham it could be genius!

There is a helluva COULD in there though, 12 point hit? I dunno, on paper my new wildcard team should have got stupid amounts of points this weekend but they did shite. Doesn't always turn out the way you expect. Personally I would grit my teeth and forget about Fabs for this week, you made a mistake in the Bosingwa deal so you'll have to put up with it.

9 gameweeks into the season, and who do people see as must haves for the whole season.

For me i can only think of :-

    Elmohammady
    Nani
    Drogba

Why is Elmo a must have? Because he's OOP? A good price, a few bonus points and 3 straight clean sheets have made him a v good option. But by no means is he a must have

      None.

It amazes me how many times people mention a player is a must have for the WHOLE SEASON. It only takes 4 or 5 low scoring weeks and any player becomes under threat, especially if a similarly priced alternative is performing extremely well. Surprisingly that player then becomes the must have for the season.

You need to be ruthless in this game and be prepared to sell any player if it suits the need of your team at that point and by the way you can always buy him back a few weeks later and if the sale was correct then that player will likely drop in price so that can flaw the 'it costs too much to get him back argument'.

    Afternoon all

I am starting to get very sick of this ganme again, ie I've not done very well recently!!

Anone care to take a look at my team and give advice? Just about holding on to top spot in most of my mini leagues but only just and they are makign up ground week by week 🙁

Gerrard to Fabs already done. Worth any other changes?

Oh and Adam was originally goign to be Brunt giving me Varney and Brunt to rotate... unfortunately at the last minute I decided I wanted Charlie Adam so now have two cheap Blackpool players to... rotate. That cost me 5 pts and to compound matters the scout picks made me decide to play carson over Foster, 7 more points lost there. Good moves Steve

Defence in need of work I know but keep prioritising other changes...

Midfield of: VDV, Malouda, Nani, Ethers, Barton

Always planned on bringing in Fabs. But now considering Nasri.

To bring in Fabs means losing VDV, Malouda or Nani. To bring in Nasri I could drop Ethers (or Barton).

I could have Fab AND Nasri but again this would mean losing Nani (or Malouda).

Barton instead of Albrighton is a better bet than Elmo instead of Albrighton. Yes yes he is Barton and yes yes its a derby but seriously, the lad has been good as gold this season.

Wow barring Krul and Simpson ALL of your backline are playing away! And as its a derby I can't really see a cleansheet.
Midfield is good, maybe Barton instead of Albrighton though
      Strikers are fine.
      Decent side.

I know its not an ideal situ but i think chelsea and city will keep clean sheets. from you I was hoping for 'we'l hump they scum 4-0' and to captain simpson. but now im doubting doubling up.

your WC side was unlucky last week, but you have strengthened your team.

Cheers, yeah I think it has a bit of potential. The odd week it might be a mentally high scorer but thats FPL for ya, now and again it bites you in the hole. Ach well.
You could be right about Chelsea and City, clean sheets are pretty hard to predict this season, though I worry Chelsea will go with Ivanovic over Bosingwa, in which case Elmo as first defensive sub (where you have him currently) is fine.
We might hump Sunderland, but I'd expect (and be delighted with) a 2-1 or 3-2.

any blackpool fans here? is varney or campbell a better bet? campbell always looks more threatenin but no end result.. gets 90 mins always too. my plan is to do Barton to Fabs Berbs to Varney/Campbell..
else should i do Malouda to Fabs keep Berbs for his 2 home games and then downgrade alex to 5 million defender and upgrade berbs to tevez with the spare cash? option 1 or 2?

Roy Hodgeson said it was Torres' best performance this season.
But seeing as he says something like that every week, and that they've been rubish all season, that means very little.

My reply from FPL towers as regards carroll's non-assist:

    Hi Thomas

Thanks for your email - we appreciate your feedback.

    From the rules:

"These are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team who makes the last pass before a goal is scored.

"If during this pass, an opposing player significantly alters the speed or direction of the ball, then no assist is given except if this intervention directly results in an own goal."

Carroll was not awarded an assist for Nolan's goal because the defender's deflection after Carroll's touch was significant enough to change the intended destination of the ball.

The Press Association provide all the data for our games, and we will pass your comments on to them.

However as it states in the rules:

"Neither we nor the Press Association will enter into any correspondence relating to the allocation of points to players."

    Regards
    FPL

look here evryone stop talking about getting nasri and fabregas. 'ooooo will having both be too much arsenaaalll coovveerr' 'oooooo i dont know what to do oooooo'

last week everyone told me to sell nasri as i had fabregas, but i didnt and see what happened. Now if you think nasri is a good player which will get you points get him. if you think the same for fabregas then get him. if you think both will get you points get them and for gods sake stop it. its getting annoying.

ok now for the important question. should i get schwarzer or fabianski for this week.

      Hello,
Fabianski is doing superbly well, he will play against West Ham and Newcastle in Emirates next two weeks.

Schwarzer is playing against West Brom. Do you underestimate West Brom? They're playing very well. I don't think Fulham can get a clean sheet easily against West Brom.

      Hope this help.

ok, got the reply from fpl on carrolls assist, im currenelty awaiting a reason why evra's assist was given. This should be interesting..heres whats gone so far, off out for a jog, will update yis as soon as i get anything back. (My first email is at the bottom, so read up)

    HI,

thanks for getting back to me. I understandt hat you're saying on Carroll's assist, but what about evra's assist for Man United? That had a huge deflection.

By your criteria below, Patrice Evra's assist shouldn't have stood really should it?

I look forward to your reply,

my point is, how strong would the arsenal lineup be for the CC game away to newcastle. thanks

Arsenal will field the kids as per usual... No chance of Fabregas, and probably Nasri too, playing.

Sol's still out I think. Otherwise I'd have loved to see that happen, maybe one of the other lads will oblige.

says on BBC that the big (fat) centre-half could be making his comeback...

Newcastle will field their reserves and kids too, like they did when they beat Chelsea. Remember that? The one where "Alex forced Ameobi to lose possession 25 yards out", that one? It were good that!

'Alex forcing Ameobi to surrender possession from 25 yards out' was one of my favourite moments of the season.

Denilson is too important to play.

Anyone fancy Chamakh over the next two?

Bit worrying that his team can win with big numbers and he doesn't seem to get many points.

Honestly,no. He is perfect striker for Arsenal because he understands that his only job is to head the ball, or pass it with his feet to one of the fancy dan midfielder. I like Fab and Nasri and Arshavin when Chamakh starts.

He captained Nasri 4 in a row. He doesn't have Drogba also.
