Last weekend saw the return of Jose Bosingwa to Premier League action after a year-long absence with a knee injury and the Chelsea full-back thoroughly impressed against Mick McCarthy‘s Wolves.

Although Chelsea have both Branislav Ivanovic and Paulo Ferreira as options for the right-back slot, Bosingwa is perhaps the best fit for Carlo Ancelotti’s system and the Chelsea boss admitted as much after the 2-0 win, saying:

Bosingwa was one the best players on the pitch. He put a lot of pressure on in the second half by pushing up without the ball and he had opportunities to score. For 70 minutes he played very well and he is an important player for us in the future because we can use his speed and resistance to play better in attacking play.

A look at this Average Position map from the Wolves game indicates there was not much positional difference between Ashley Cole (no.3) and Bosingwa (no.17) on Saturday and suggests that, within this system, Bosingwa can be expected to mirror the threat of Cole on the opposite flank every time he is selected.

As the Passing Heatmaps below also show, 40% of all Bosingwa’s passes were made in his opponent’s final third of the pitch, whereas only 32% of all Cole’s were. Given that Bosingwa made 50 passes and Cole made 38, it’s fair to say there was more of a threat coming down Chelsea’s right flank for a change.

As a result, Bosingwa made 2 Key Passes that led to Goal Attempts on Saturday, and considering that Cole has made 10 Key Passes in 9 games, it’s food for thought for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, bearing in mind the right-back comes in at £5.6m compared to Cole’s £8.2m. However, for those Fantasy managers giving him the once over, a word of caution: there’s no doubt that Ancelotti will take time in easing him back into the fold, and it’s perhaps worth waiting to see how things unfold over the next couple of gameweeks before diving in. Once his fitness is full, though, it’s feasible that Bosingwa’s impact could see him become a first-team regular if Ancelotti’s comments are anything to go by.

Bosingwa also managed 3 shots at goal and was perhaps unlucky not to find the net, denied by Marcus Hahnemann on a couple of occasions. This was an amount beaten only by Didier Drogba on the day and considering Ashley Cole has had 6 shots at goal all season, it’s further indication of his attacking prowess.

Somewhat bizarrely, despite lagging behind Bosingwa in such critical areas, Cole was still awarded all 3 FPL Bonus Points but if the right-back continues to perform as he did at the weekend, there’s no reason why he won’t soon be offering the kind of returns that saw him bag 156 FPL points a couple of seasons ago.

did it myself last week. a cole is the best of all but i felt i could use the extra 2.5m better elsewhere. bosingwa brings a rotation risk but chelsea's next few fixtures aren't great anyway. my plan is to stick with bos through the next few fixtures then upgrade to cashley.

Reposting as it was lost on the last page

    Here is my team:

    Harper Carson
    Konch Bosingwa Faye Kelly(ful) O’shea
    N’Zog Albrighton VDV Nasri Malouda
    Carroll Torres Drogba

I have 1.4 million in the bank.

Here are transfers im thinking of doing:
    1) Harper + Torres = Howard + Chemakh/Berb/Hernandez/Tevez
    2) Albrighton + Torres = Nani + Chemakh/ Hernandez
    3) Malouda + Torres = Fabregas + Tevez/Berbatov/Hernandez
    4) Albrighton + Torres = Fabregas + Dembele/ 5.6 mil forward

    Or any other options?

    Cheers

anyone considering pairing carroll with DJ Campbell.. fixtures rotate well till GW 19.. plus from what i've seen of him he is very involved in most of blackpool's attackin moves.. think i'm gonna go for it.. Berbs to Campbell, Barton to Fabregas.. leaves me with
    Robinson Mignolet
    Alex Mummy Dann Alcaraz Jara
    Fabregas Malouda Arteta VDV Nani
    Drogba Carroll DJ Campbell
    ..
with 0.2 in the bank to do alcaraz to coleman next week if coleman starts this weekend

Campbell is by far the better bet imo.. will start every game and is an out and out striker and good finisher. plus the fans and holloway love him. Scotty the plan is to keep alex until the chelsea defense situation clears and then either swap him for bosingwa in 2 weeks or keep him dependin on the outcome:).. so i'll go for it? love campbell for some reason

Ive done exactly that, played all 3 this week and tempted to do it again, people can mock it but those two did better then Berbatov and Tevez this week.

There were several massacres. People were holding demonstrations which usually ended very badly for the demonstrators. Alexander was giving the people what he decided they needed and refused to listen to what they said they wanted. They were at an impasse, and eventually more people than they could kill rose up and overthrew the aristocracy.

Jara or Tamas are your best bet. Gohouri isn't safe now Caldwell is back (particularly as his injury has let Caldwell straight back in the team). Blackpool and West Brom have kept the same amount of cleansheet, but West Brom have conceed 9 goals to Blackpool's 20... suggest WB are the better choice. I've got Jara who is good bench fodder.

Tricky one that... Jara is a right-back so in theory has more license to go forward than Tamas, though apart from his goal against Arsenal I can't say I've seen much of that. Tamas on the other hand has just picked up 3bps in his last game... you never with FPL, this could be a sign of things to come. I'd be going Tamas now and save the 0.1, you're not going to play either too often anyway.

West brom don't look too good defensively either, but have good fixtures.
Gohouri would be the most likely to score well in the long term but he has two away games coming up next, so I wouldnt bet on him either...

Since S.Ireland moved to villa, I've been waiting for him to hit some form akin to that seen at City - still waiting and his priced has dropped to 6.1m, will the petrov injury give him more playing time? anyone think he is one to watch?

I thought he had a really good game against Chelsea, and of course could have won it. Definitely on my raider, although 6.1 is a bit of tricky price... I'd still rather have N'Zogbia or Adam I think and save a bit of cash.

In terms of BP's Berbatov is leading in FPL with 12.

    Crazy season.

He seems to be going back to his old self past few games which is annoying. Get a decent centre mid in the team with ROoney and Chico up front and bench Berbatov I say!

If berba ran a bit more we could use him as some sort of centre mid, as he's clearly a very creative player who makes things happen...

Who knows, maybe a Bernandez partnership could be the way forward?

Possibly. He's been rotated once in 9 games so if that continues then I'll be happy to keep him. Kalou being out has probably helped that.

I guess we won't know for a few weeks and until fixtures clog up again. I think he's part of Chelseas best team but I guess they dont need their best team to beat most others 🙂

just watched the full 90mins of the chelsea wolves game and have a pretty different view to the one i had after watching MOTD and looking at petr cech's save stats.

ivanovic actually had a very solid game at cb. all the shots on target appeared to be more a lack of essien and mikel closing down milijas than defensive errors.
of the shots on target the majority seem to be milijas shots straight at cech. he didn't have one difficult save to make all match.
the best chance was van damme's header. despite not getting there bosingwa does enough to put him off which often is all you can ask for.
bosingwa hardly had a touch all game. he was very uninvolved but almost every time he did get the ball he made something happen going forward.
malouda was off the pace, looked tired right from the start and will benefit a lot from having mid week off.
kalou is a great asset of the bench. his direct pacy defender committing style is a big plus for chelsea.
drogba wasn't that bad. his shooting was woeful, apart from that he put a good shift in.
ashley cole was a bit fortunate with the bps. if it's possible i'd say not 1 player deserved bps. i saw 22 decent performances and not a single bad or great performance. if anything foley was the best full back imo.
terry fell very badly on his back in the first half. as he copleted the 90 he looks to be ok but one to keep an eye on especially after his back and rib problems in the past few weeks.
josh mceachran again looked good off the bench. his touch and possession play was again flawless, albeit against an already beaten wolves midfield. he even did a marvelous goal saving tackle on SEB, although it turned out SEB was given offside so it didn't matter in the end.

Just thought I'd post my reply from FPL towers on the Carroll issue:

      "Hi there

Thanks for your email - we appreciate your feedback.

      From the rules:

"These are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team who makes the last pass before a goal is scored.

"If during this pass, an opposing player significantly alters the speed or direction of the ball, then no assist is given except if this intervention directly results in an own goal."

Carroll was not awarded an assist for Nolan's goal because the defender's deflection after Carroll's touch was significant enough to change the intended destination of the ball.

The Press Association provide all the data for our games, and we will pass your comments on to them.

However as it states in the rules:

"Neither we nor the Press Association will enter into any correspondence relating to the allocation of points to players."

      Regards
      FPL"

Pointless to debate it any more. At least a repeat is less likely once they've transferred him into their teams alongside a few other bp lovelies.

          i got this reply:

          dear fpl player,

thankyou for the £10 and the crunchie bar you sent fpl towers at 6pm on staurday evening. after this generous offer we were more than happy to not give carroll his assist. it was debateable as manuel da costa does get a head to it, but the second that sweet sweet honeycomb hit my lips i knew i couldn't give the assist at your expense.

the press association provide all the data for our games, and we will pass your comments on to them.

however as it states in the rules:

Cole is a season keeper. Especially if you've had him in from the start. He seems to be channelling his general 'anger' into more productive attacking spheres. Whilst still being the best defensive left back in the Prem. Only one yellow and no injuries in 9 weeks. He's in the best form of his life and I wouldn't sell him for the blood of your first-born. Everyone hates him but I don't care. He'll only get better.

Anyone want to talk me into / out of the following...

        Hart -> Mignolet
        Shawcross -> Tamas
        Yaya Toure -> Fabregas

Got 2 freebies so it's only a 4 point hit. Don't intend on playing Tamas very often, he will very much be my 5th choice defender. Not keen on losing Hart but it's too much money tied up in a keeper and is the only viable way of getting Fabs. I'll just take my chances short term on a cheap goalkeeper combo.
