Last weekend saw the return of Jose Bosingwa to Premier League action after a year-long absence with a knee injury and the Chelsea full-back thoroughly impressed against Mick McCarthy‘s Wolves.

Although Chelsea have both Branislav Ivanovic and Paulo Ferreira as options for the right-back slot, Bosingwa is perhaps the best fit for Carlo Ancelotti’s system and the Chelsea boss admitted as much after the 2-0 win, saying:

Bosingwa was one the best players on the pitch. He put a lot of pressure on in the second half by pushing up without the ball and he had opportunities to score. For 70 minutes he played very well and he is an important player for us in the future because we can use his speed and resistance to play better in attacking play.

A look at this Average Position map from the Wolves game indicates there was not much positional difference between Ashley Cole (no.3) and Bosingwa (no.17) on Saturday and suggests that, within this system, Bosingwa can be expected to mirror the threat of Cole on the opposite flank every time he is selected.

As the Passing Heatmaps below also show, 40% of all Bosingwa’s passes were made in his opponent’s final third of the pitch, whereas only 32% of all Cole’s were. Given that Bosingwa made 50 passes and Cole made 38, it’s fair to say there was more of a threat coming down Chelsea’s right flank for a change.

As a result, Bosingwa made 2 Key Passes that led to Goal Attempts on Saturday, and considering that Cole has made 10 Key Passes in 9 games, it’s food for thought for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, bearing in mind the right-back comes in at £5.6m compared to Cole’s £8.2m. However, for those Fantasy managers giving him the once over, a word of caution: there’s no doubt that Ancelotti will take time in easing him back into the fold, and it’s perhaps worth waiting to see how things unfold over the next couple of gameweeks before diving in. Once his fitness is full, though, it’s feasible that Bosingwa’s impact could see him become a first-team regular if Ancelotti’s comments are anything to go by.

Bosingwa also managed 3 shots at goal and was perhaps unlucky not to find the net, denied by Marcus Hahnemann on a couple of occasions. This was an amount beaten only by Didier Drogba on the day and considering Ashley Cole has had 6 shots at goal all season, it’s further indication of his attacking prowess.

Somewhat bizarrely, despite lagging behind Bosingwa in such critical areas, Cole was still awarded all 3 FPL Bonus Points but if the right-back continues to perform as he did at the weekend, there’s no reason why he won’t soon be offering the kind of returns that saw him bag 156 FPL points a couple of seasons ago.

Was pondering my Berbatov transfer out when I started thinking about how often players score against their older clubs. Anyone particularly famous (or infamous) for this?

8 Point hit to get Fabs and Nasri anyone? Thinking of taking Gerrard and Nolan out of my team.

    Squad Currently is
    Krul Foster
    Shawx-Boswinga-Coleman-Dann-Givet
    VDV-Adam-Gerard-Malouda-Nolan

I feel I have missed the boat on Nani and that he is too expensive likewise A.Cole. I was thinking Arteta but not so sure after Nasris performance yesterday and for the last few weeks.

Fair enough, but I feel that I have missed the boat on Nasri so I wouldn't bother with him. Arteta isn't a bad option.

Nasri I feel is going to be good for another two weeks after that there is a bit of a rotation risk. My feeling is that I could also make soome profit on Nasri short term.

The question is will he outscore Nolan (Home to Sunderland) by 4 points this week

No 'tis a tough one to predict as I think the general standard is quite good. I understand your logic too, and have stated similar. Losing two key players (especially when one is the goalie) would hit ANY side in the Prem.
Very tough, the Christmas period will make things a lot clearer, its just that bit of luck needed to keep all key players fit during that pivotal time.
Wolves, West Brom, Blackpool, Birmingham, Newcastle, West Ham, Blackburn, Wigan even Fulham, all it takes is a bit of bad luck.
I reckon it will be West Ham, Wolves and Blackpool or Birmingham though.

yeah i'd agree with all that. luck with injuries will play a huge part. that's pretty much why i said newcastle as they've lost ben arfa and harper (although he's back soon i hear) and the whole carroll affair needs to be sorted, which it now looks to be with ankle knocks, viruses and court cases behind him at last. the more i htink about it the more i can't see a side with tiote and barton in the middle going down.

I've had VDV for three weeks and VDV for one. Sitting happy and they won't be going anywhere. Nasri looked just as good as Fabs on Sunday in my opinion... Although that will likely change unless Fabs gets injured.

I'm beginning to think he could be. He's been on most set pieces in the last 2 games because of Cesc's gammy hammy. He's also become a bonus darling and his overall game is more direct than the last few seasons. I'll still get Cesc though

the reason he is cheaper is because he isnt better,he is basically fabs with one leg, nasri did well ok but wen walcott is back in the front 3 he will be pushed back to the mid 3 where he will be cesc's sidekick while cesc gets the girls for saving the day

as i sit waiting for injury reports form the goblin doctor on tevez, i muse away on the possibility that fabs isnt arsed really this season. I have a LOVELY team right no without him, some of his eforts on goal yeaterday were beyond awful, his passing was way below par, was he deeper than usual or was i imagining that?

Plus, that penalty STANK of lack of effort. He's gonna tear my team apart, and i dont like it, no sir, no not one bit.

I have to admit i only had nasri cos he was on penos and Fabs was out, but im getting the niggle that i can do wothout fabregas the next few weeks.

    Scary stuff i know.

Someone has to go if Fabregas is to come in.

          Here are the choices:

Replace Tevez, Drogba, Malouda, Cole + Nasri

Now, tell me, who would you chuck of those 4 choices?

For me, it has to be Malouda.

Tevez IS Manchester City, and he's on set pieces and penalties. He also offers a captain differential.

Drogba VS Malouda? Where to start? Set pieces, penalties, main striker VS LWF at risk of rotation.

Cole + Nasri. That would really be stupid wouldn't it?

So Fabs is deemed essential already with Nasri, the cheaper alternative, still striving for recognition amongst the FPL elite.

Wondering if I should get Fabs already - plan was to do Nasri->Fabs but thats down the drain looking at Nasri's form. Only ways I can get Fabs in is for a direct swap with Malouda or by selling Berba & Adam for Fabs and a 7.4m forward for a hit. Will be good to understand how many games Hernandez is good for

My team for this GW is

    N'Zog Fabregas Malouda Nani VDV
    Hernandez Tevez Carroll(ez)

What'd ya think? It completely goes against what I said earlier but I sort of like that team.

Depends, if it's Elmo, play him.

Personally I'll be captaining Lee Cattermole for that game 🙂

I think it will be a high scoring/open game. I can see it being 3-2 to Utd.

jeez that's a nightmare. no easy way of doing it. i wouldn't touch nani or vdv. either malouda and terry out fabregas and mid price defender in (how much would you have?), or tevez and etherington out fabs and cheap striker in (again how much would you have?)

You took a 20pt hit 2 weeks ago and a 12pt one last week, so I wouldn't worry too much about a 4pt hit this week.

Malouda is the obvious choice to upgrade, downgrading Terry would give you the cash to make the switch.

Loving the look of my team for this week:
    Hahnemann Foster
    Bosingwa Shawx Elmo Enrique Boateng
    Nani Vdv Adam Demsey Fabs
    Chamakh Carroll Drogs
I have to decide who to drop but that will be decided on Friday.
    I'm pretty happy! 🙂

I guess Caroll and Elmo means one of the might cover the other especially if caroll scores and Elmo assists but yeah Dempsey would remove the conflicting interest. Whichever one I bench it will be a worrying choice. Thanks for your view enough said its a coin flip

anyone have any thoughts as to whether or not Sidwell will get a run in the Villa side now that Petrov is out 2 months?

if so, how will Villa line up in the center of the park? will Reo-Coker be more defensive and Sidwell more attacking or vice-versa?

any Villans out there? your thoughts?

It's for a project worth 20% in the Leaving Cert and firstly anyone can edit the info, and secondly my teacher said it was barred, whether that's through or not I don't know, but I'm not going to risk it seeing as you have to name your sources.

I think I might have found one now anyway!
