Last weekend saw the return of Jose Bosingwa to Premier League action after a year-long absence with a knee injury and the Chelsea full-back thoroughly impressed against Mick McCarthy‘s Wolves.

Although Chelsea have both Branislav Ivanovic and Paulo Ferreira as options for the right-back slot, Bosingwa is perhaps the best fit for Carlo Ancelotti’s system and the Chelsea boss admitted as much after the 2-0 win, saying:

Bosingwa was one the best players on the pitch. He put a lot of pressure on in the second half by pushing up without the ball and he had opportunities to score. For 70 minutes he played very well and he is an important player for us in the future because we can use his speed and resistance to play better in attacking play.

A look at this Average Position map from the Wolves game indicates there was not much positional difference between Ashley Cole (no.3) and Bosingwa (no.17) on Saturday and suggests that, within this system, Bosingwa can be expected to mirror the threat of Cole on the opposite flank every time he is selected.

As the Passing Heatmaps below also show, 40% of all Bosingwa’s passes were made in his opponent’s final third of the pitch, whereas only 32% of all Cole’s were. Given that Bosingwa made 50 passes and Cole made 38, it’s fair to say there was more of a threat coming down Chelsea’s right flank for a change.

As a result, Bosingwa made 2 Key Passes that led to Goal Attempts on Saturday, and considering that Cole has made 10 Key Passes in 9 games, it’s food for thought for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, bearing in mind the right-back comes in at £5.6m compared to Cole’s £8.2m. However, for those Fantasy managers giving him the once over, a word of caution: there’s no doubt that Ancelotti will take time in easing him back into the fold, and it’s perhaps worth waiting to see how things unfold over the next couple of gameweeks before diving in. Once his fitness is full, though, it’s feasible that Bosingwa’s impact could see him become a first-team regular if Ancelotti’s comments are anything to go by.

Bosingwa also managed 3 shots at goal and was perhaps unlucky not to find the net, denied by Marcus Hahnemann on a couple of occasions. This was an amount beaten only by Didier Drogba on the day and considering Ashley Cole has had 6 shots at goal all season, it’s further indication of his attacking prowess.

Somewhat bizarrely, despite lagging behind Bosingwa in such critical areas, Cole was still awarded all 3 FPL Bonus Points but if the right-back continues to perform as he did at the weekend, there’s no reason why he won’t soon be offering the kind of returns that saw him bag 156 FPL points a couple of seasons ago.

    My first post!

General help required. My team is:

    Foster Gilks
    Elmo Hangeland Jags Bos Baptiste
    Cesc VDV Adam Brunt Etherington
    Tevez Drog Dembele

Any ideas on who to pick this GW? I usually like to play 3-5-3 but am open to options.

Planning to sell Hangeland for Kolorov GW 11 (assuming Kol’s playing)

Adam or Brunt for Wilshire GW12 (is this wise looking at the fixtures?)

Baptiste for Simpson when it won’t cost me points.

Should I maybe do Etherington to Essien this week for a 4 point hit?

Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thnx

        I wouldnt bring in Wilshere.
        1. Because Diaby is back and Song and Denilson are also there.
        2. Brunt and Adam's fixtures rotate nicely.

I wouldnt bring in Essien because you already have Drogs and Bosingwa and with Lamps coming back soon Essien will play deeper.

      Need Nani.

      That should be priority.

Get Etherington out for Nani. Make money by selling Hangeland.

I'm a bit unclear on the whole price protection lark... is it that a players price won't change for ten days after red flag removed? Anyone know when Cesc's red flag was removed?

I think it is 6 days, CTC seem to think so, whereas totalfpl think it is 8 days like last season. Apparently the NTI is reset after protection clears, which means that if Fabs has 20,000 transfers in before it clears then they don't count towards price rises. So Fab will need to reach 100% for a rise, I think he will on Friday, on about 18-23% IMO. But thats just speculation.

Help me out guys Guys, please. Fab % on FantasyTools indicates a rise tonight but has him notated as protected. FISO doesn't have him on risers list at all and shows -1 day on protected list. So what does this mean? Is he most likely going up or staying put?

To anyone considering Hernandez, there's going to be a lot of rotation in the utd forward line, like in the days of yorke, cole, ole and sir teddy. Hard to say who'll play when and it's enough of a worry to make me consider not having any utd striker, so I don't get the rotation stitch up. Saying that, 7m and guaranteed goals, Mmmm tempting.

I might be clutching at straws and this may be a bit far fetched but do you think it could've all been a set up?

2 things that have come from this firstly, everyone has stopped talking about rooney's private life, and secondly it gave fergie a chance to say to the Glazers we need new players or else we'll lose our best ones.

But if Rooney wanted to leave so bad why would he sign a contract and make it harder for clubs to sign him. If he didn't sign then he could choose virtually any club he wanted to and get a nice signing on fee as well.?

Midfield: Nani / Malouda / Fabregas / Van der Vaart / Arteta. But unless you're lightweight in the rest of your team at least one of these has to go, two if your into 'balance'. So, yeah, good question.

It looks like you'll end up with 4 Nasri's in midfield!

Who will you play Williamson or Mummy in the derby
                Barton or Carroll?

                  I'd play Mummy and Carroll.

Very much doubt either side will keep a clan sheet, always a great feisty game!

My friend's trying to get me tickets for it yet I very much doubt i'll be going!

Odemwingie likely to be fit for next week though? Do you need to replace him to get Brunt in or summat? Dembele at 5.4 looked good when he first joined, although his goal record prior to his arrival wasn't the best.

Is Odemwingie likely to drop? FISO is crazy with their -8 NTO crap!!!

after getting bos and being slightly bias this week

Somewhat bizarrely, despite lagging behind Bosingwa in such critical areas, Cole was still awarded all 3 FPL Bonus Points but if the right-back continues to perform as he did at the weekend, there’s no reason why he won’t soon be offering the kind of returns that saw him bag 156 FPL points a couple of seasons ago.

kinda got me this week.. thought bos kinda deserved some bonus, maybe the 20 mins less on the pitch f'd it up

                RMH (rate my hit) 🙂

                A. Malouda > Fabregas
                Berbatov > Hernandez
                -4

                OR

                B. VdV > Fabregas
                Berbatov > Varney
                -4

I'm leaning towards A. What do you think?

I'm either doing A in my team, or swapping Berbatov for Odemwingie and getting Bosingwa in too.
