Mourinho is a great tactician. Possibly the best in the game. I have no issue with him playing defensively. I have no doubts he will have plans for both teams and that they will be effective.
However, my personal opinion is the Liverpool game was decided by an error, rather than tactics or strategy.
I also have serious reservations about the level of gamesmanship Mourinho employs to win football matches. Ultimately, I believe it is not a good thing and contrary to the spirit of the game. That I suppose is also a personal opinion.

Pep took over a Barca side that was struggling to get to the top in La Liga, let alone in Europe. It was him who brought cohesion and a new play style to that team, not the team who suddenly magically figured things out when Rijkaard could no longer hack it. Also, he didn't bloody "inherit" the team, he brought in or promoted several players who became key to the team's success.
