The ScoutCast – Episode 132 – Climax

The final ScoutCast of the season found Granville and I take on the might of Hall of Fame legend, Evs, top 300 ranked Applebonkers and our very own high flyer – Jonty. We certainly know how to make ourselves feel inadequate.

In a mix of retrospective naval gazing and forward thinking speculation, my co-host and I tackle the usual ScoutCast regulars, before we’re joined by our guests to take on another raft of community questions. We talk Gameweek 38 punts, the deadball divas that are Steven Gerrard and Yaya Toure and consider the lessons learned from the past nine months.

You can listen in on the edited Podcast version of the show via this link or the player immediately below, or get the warts and all Hangout version – complete with childminding and Jason Puncheon toilet breaks – via the player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Those picking people from teams with nothing to play for, may I just add my two pennies worth?.....

Hull/Arsenal = minefield due to FACup next weekend

Utd/Spurs = do they want Europa or not? Both may not "try" to hard

Everton/Southampton = all safe and positions basically set. Anyone playing in the WC will be wary of injury. All clubs may take a chance to rotate/experiment

West Brom/Villa/Stoke/Palace/Sund/Swansea = the biggest points could come from these? Some fringe WC players and interesting punts, but like Poyet said a few changes could be made and this should be the case with all

City/Liverpool = obviously the only two with anything serious to play for but can't see any massive scores here as it always gets tight on final day

Newcastle/West Ham = due to above, avoid I guess (though I have a feeling Remy will score a couple)

Chelsea = do they care? I'm not so sure? Multiple WC hopefuls who may not want to get injured

Fulham/Cardiff/Norwich= everyone assumes they will be demotivated and get thrashed, BUT, now there is no pressure and all the players will be looking to move to another premier league club/abroad so both could actually perform well. Norwich also play Arsenal who will surely rotate

Giaccherini is a good idea as he is fringes of the Italy squad. I guess Schurrle is another who needs to play well?

I rated this weeks matches in order of teams with something to play for earlier.
Those lower down the list more likely to rotate players, I reckon.
Those higher up the list more likely to be up for it playing the A-team.

      1. Man City v West Ham
      2. Liverpool v Newcastle
      3. Cardiff City v Chelsea
      4. Southamptn v Man Utd
      5. Tottenham v Aston Villa
      6. West Brom v Stoke City
      7. Sunderland v Swansea
      8. Hull City v Everton
      9. Norwich v Arsenal
      10. Fulham v Crystal Palace

United appear to have a reason to ease off but this is the last chance for their players to impress the incoming manager. I think the Europa league is worth the risk for RVP, Mata, Valencia and co.

Crystal Palace and Arsenal have the least to play for because their league positions are fixed whatever the results and their opponents are both relegated already.

Playing at home is always enough of a reason to give it 100% but the last home game of the season is special. Also the result had more than a bit to do with Liverpool arrogance that they could chase goal difference against a poor side. Another thing that is likely to goad a team into pulling out something special

well by that reasoning fulham will be giving their all as its their last home game, no? plus they'll want to give their fans something to cheer as its their last PL game for who knows how long

then there's the fact it's a london derby - so playing your last home is special but a derby isn't?

i can think of plenty of reasons why they might give their all

I've made no comment about Fulham only Crystal Palace. Everyone is picking them to do well and I'm disagreeing. Puncheon is 3rd on my bench.

You may be right about Fulham but I couldn't give a monkeys. Don't think I have owned any of their players all season.

If you want to pick a fight try reading what's written first so you have something to argue about.

Hello guys! I need some help here, gotta close a 15 point gap (11 actually - my rival is taking a hit).
    This is my team:

    Mannone
    Alonso - Evra - Azpilicueta
    Eriksen - Ramsey - Yaya - Nasri
    Suares -Sturridge - Aguero

Bench: Ward - Bruce - Noone
    Bank: 2.4
    Subs this week: Rooney>Sturridge
    FT: 0

What should i do? It is a lot of money on stake. Should i Cap Sturridge for differential, or go safe with Suarez?

    A) Ramsey --> Gerrard (-4)
    B) Nasri --> Hazard\ Gerrard (-4)
    C) Other transfers?
    D) Stick with my team

What have I learned in this fpl season:

    1. Buy FFS membership in the beginning.

    2. Hits don't pay off. Don't chase last weeks points.

    4. Forget " team coverage".

I've had 8 straight green arrows, going from 80k to 6k overal, 661pts (or 82.6 average) after accounting for 40pts in hits. Hits can work fine if you take them at the right time and get in top players rather than punts, random DGWers or, as you say, last week's points.

So, 19 points behind in cash league.

I dont worry about trying to kill him with differentials, just need your advice on how to optimize the team (And then get the lead):

    Speroni (Adrian)
Dann, Baines, Azpili, Evra (Marcos Alonso)
    Nasri, Yaya, Ramsey, Mata (Ki)
    Suarez, Aguero (Wickham)

    Bank 1.5M
    FT: 1

    What would you do gents?

Including the Last Gameweek the total number of Hits I have taken is 4..and achieved a rank of 1559 till now (684 last week)...hopefully under 1K after this week.....and this with not having Yaya and Ramsey all season...I think taking less hits has paid off...

Hits can pay off or be terrible. Last week I should have taken a hit to get dzeko in but refused.

You must have been lucky with injuries then. I have had a nightmare with injuries meaning that I have had to take hits that I didn't want to. I am ranked 1,334 but think I could have done a lot better with an average amount of luck.

Morning all! Hope your end of the season plans are developing nicely... Here's my situation...

Him: Boruc, Speroni, Evra, Ward, Baines, Chambers, Bardsley, Gerrard, Mata, Silva, Ramsey, Amalfitano, Dzeko, Aguero, Rooney. 2.4m in the bank and not made his transfer yet.

Me: Mannone, Zabaleta, Ward, Alonso, Ramsey, Mata, Sterling, Eriksen, Aguero, Suarez, Rooney (Mcgregor, Noone, Azpi, Olsson, 0.8m in the bank)

I'm 34 points ahead. Assume he'll drop Rooney. Do I cover off his Dzeko differential, or go for Sturridge?

I wanted to do something a bit punty like bringing Giaccerini in, but there's cash involved in the league, plus I'm not sure who I'd bench/sell from my midfield.

Having said all that, my team name is Hung Like a Bony, and I've not actually had the man himself in my team all year. So maybe it's time...

Thanks for replying anyway. That's the way I'm leaning at the moment. My only worry is that if City get an early goal it'll such the life out of the 'pool game. Although I do expect Anfield to be rocking anyway, after a season like this.

Morning folks. As you'll probably guess by my username change, I'm not too keen on Mr Dyke's proposals to put B teams into the English football pyramid. It will pretty much signal the death of clubs like my beloved Welling United. If you could sign the petition here it would be very helpful:

Your choice. Personally I don't think we should be allowed the Premier League to destroy the entire football pyramid, the same way it already has done with the League Cup and FA Cup.

Progression for lower league/non-league clubs will be made 10x more difficult. The national team might be the pinnacle, but it's not the be-all and end-all of football in this country.

The Premier League talks itself up as being the best league in the world, that's only due to the great amount of foreign talent we have here. You can't have it both ways. I'd suggest the lack of English talent isn't down to the lack of first-team action, but the lack of top class coaches.

As of Sept 2013, the number of UEFA 'A' coaches in these nations:

        England - 1,161
        Spain - 12,720
        Germany - 5,500

          @ againstleague3

          Totally agree with your arguments.
Not only will it wreck nonleague football but lower league football too.
I think if it goes ahead it will become harder for local football teams to survive.
So I have signed the petition.

No way. I really think it will help younger players come through and am excited about England's future.
Barcelona B is fantastic and gives you a real insight in to the up and coming players, like Delafeu for example.

Barcelona B play in the second tier. This proposal is to put teams in a new fifth tier "League 3".

How is playing at that standard supposed to help them develop anyway?

All these managers coming out in support of the proposal, they're all at big clubs in the Premier League/Championship. They don't give a toss what happens to lower league sides.

isn't the u21 premier league fulfilling that role

or do they create this fifth tier, shift everyone down a division and then those b teams can get promoted/relegated?

I see, that's pretty bad then cos the top teams b teams may end up taking up spots in the championship, and since they wont be able to get promoted, that's just a waste....

however it would be nice for some smaller clubs to play against top talents from epl teams

There will be an extra 20-24 teams blocking the likes of Welling's progress to higher leagues. Will we be able to compete with those clubs in terms of finances/facilities? Not a chance.

Also look at the impact away support has on smaller clubs in leagues like the conference. When Welling played Luton a few weeks ago, Luton brought 2000 away fans - that represents an enormous amount of cash for us in gate receipts, food and drink sales etc.

Let's say Welling are at home to Newcastle's B Team - how many Geordies are going to bother trekking all that way to support their bunch of youngsters?
