End of Season Awards – Defender Voting Now Open

With almost two thousand votes now gathered in the goalkeeper of the season poll, it’s time to move our Team of the Season voting on to the defence.

Our new poll is now open on the front page. You have four votes available to you, allowing you to select the group of defenders that you feel have had the biggest impact on our Fantasy season. As before, you should take into account not only their point returns, but also their value from Fantasy perspective.

Your votes will help shape our thinking for our Team of the Season – with coverage beginning early next week. A midfielders poll will follow tomorrow evening with voting on forwards taking place over the weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Would Anderson be a good midfield call for this game. The last time a MU “reserve” team got a run out he was on fire and will want to show SAF he’s a good option for cup final

    Just thinking about it now, there are literally no defenders that have done a good job for me! They've all been fairly shite!

      I'm the same. Having looked at the list the only ones i've had in my team are coleman and terry :/

      The ones I've had:

      Vidic - scored the week before/after I bought/sold him.
      Terry - Kept about one clean sheet in the 4 weeks I had him.
      Coleman - scored a couple, but barely any CS in about 20 weeks.
      Samba - got sent off to knock me out the cup.
      Jose Enrique - part of a dreadful early season rotation with Jara.
      Dawson - got him recently for 2 points in 3 games - STK WBA BLP
      Johnson - fair enough, he's been *okay*

      Vidic, Coleman (I seemed to always get his good points - unlike a lot of people), Johnson and Dawson (purely for his 9 points off the bench this week) for me!

      I really haven't done a very good job at picking the highest scoring defenders this season, at least not at the right time.

        I know who's last on this list. That's easier than a fight with Charles Hawtrey.

        But top defender....hmmmm. Hangeland has saved me of late, but surely it must be Baines. I wish I still had him.

        I would vote for Kyle Walker if I had a chance to. He's served me so well for the money he costs: 9, 3, 2, 6, 5, 2, 7. An average of 4.9 is excellent for a 4.0 bargain defender.

        Cashley was immense early season.
        RJ one of the better budget ones.
        Baines & Vidic, high price but high rewards at times.
        Hangeland & Huth, great from an attacking point of view.

        Re Wenger press conference. Am I to take late fitness tests for nasri, diaby etc and no mention of djourou to mean that Djourou is now fit for the fulhm match.

        Nobody gambling on any Blackburn players then? They are in okish form but nobody really stands out.

        Best defender i'd go Hangeland, Vidic, Baines and probably Huth.

        Surely Kompany will be dwon as a defender next year?!

          Kompany did appeal for next season. But I just did some sums. If he was listed as a defender the extra clean sheet pts he would have got add up to 34, giving him a total of 125.

          This makes Kompany the 9th best defender, just below Aaron Hughes and above Skrtel.

          For 5.2 that's not bad...but not amazing. His lack of bonus (just 5) is my major concern.

          He gets the minutes, he gets the clean sheets, but as far as extras go I think even next season there will be better options for the 5-6 price range, who can score the odd goal, chip in with an assist and get bonus for their efforts.

            In conclusion Kompany will be the nice safe option, but for a similar price i think I'd prefer an investment in Hart to get his extra save pts and possibility of a penalty save.

            Great reserach Jonty.

            There is probably also a big risk that he is priced higher when he is converted into a defender. I'll monitor him though as there should be a chance that the bonus judges start favouring him a lot at any given time as they have done with other players.

            Kompany's lack of bonus points is astonishing really, and for me it proves that they base them largely on the stats. Presumably Kompany doesn't do well in the stats deemed relevant to midfielders (obviously, because he isn't one and doesn't play there!), and so gets ignored most of the time. I wouldn't be surprised if next season, as a defender, he picks up a lot more.

              that's a good point. I think I'll wait and see how it pans out. If he racks up the bonus his performances as a defender deserve after the first two or three weeks I'll be all over him like Kerry Katona at an all you can eat Iceland promotional buffet.

        I voted for Baines/Johnson/Skrtel and Samba, I had Baines, the rest of them just always seemed to be the thorn in my side in rivals teams, and every week I appeared to look they were getting cleanies or goals, I see not many share my views though, if I had my way again I would plump more cash for Johnson instead of Carr, would have not gotten rid of Baines, and had one of Skrtel or Samba, probably Samba.

        Probably Coleman for me.

        Got him very early just as he was breaking into the team and for his price he did a great job for me for most of the season FPL wise.

        Don't rate him too highly as a player and he has faded towards the end but in terms of price / points ratio, OOP and a good early find he wins it for me.

        Not a year for defenders in general though. Year of the midfielders for me.

        Zamora & Bent - Berba & Tevez for a hit?

        Bent has been on form and has a decent game against Liverpool at home but as they have nothing to play for he may be subject to rotation.

        Im pretty much essentially asking will berba & tevez score at least one more goal than Bent?
