A month of thrilling football culminates this evening as Germany and Argentina take to the pitch in the 2014 World Cup Final. Many Fantasy mini-leagues are on the line tonight as Joachim Low’s free-scoring side square up to one of the most resilient backlines in the tournament so far:

Germany: Neuer; Lahm, Boateng, Hummels, Howedes; Khedira, Schweinsteiger; Muller, Kroos, Ozil; Klose

Argentina: Romero; Zabaleta, Garay, Demichelis, Rojo; Biglia, Mascherano; Perez, Messi, Lavezzi; Higuain

Low makes one late change to the XI that started the 7-1 rout of Brazil, with Christoph Kramer replacing Sami Khedira in central midfield. Mats Hummels has recovered from the knee problem that forced him off at the break last time around, then, while Miroslav Klose leads the line for the third successive match. Thomas Muller carries the hopes of many Fantasy managers into this one after serving up five goals and a trio of assists so far, whilst Toni Kroos’ double against the Brazilians has earned him plenty of new owners across the Fantasy games. Elsewhere in attack, Klose is gunning for his third of the campaign after breaking the World Cup Finals scoring record last week, though Low also has the option of Andre Schurrle off the bench, with the Chelsea man notching three times already.

Alejandro Sabella’s side is also unaltered from the semi-finals. Martin Demichelis gets the nod ahead of Federico Fernandez in the heart of defence once again, while Enzo Perez and Ezequiel Lavezzi are handed another start due to injury concerns over Angel di Maria and Sergio Aguero – the latter is likely to appear off the bench again, though. The South Americans have delivered four clean sheets in their last five matches and Sabella’s defence has been subject to heavy Fantasy investment as the returns dry up for Lionel Messi. It’s now three games without a goal for the Barcelona man now, who has looked lethargic for his country over the knockout matches – when it matters most of all, can he deliver?

Attacking midfielder, apparently comfortable on either side or in a central role.

I'd think he'll start out wide assuming that De Jong plays behind the striker.

All this hate mongering towards Messi and the Golden Ball is getting ridiculous. He was the best player in the tournament, therefore he rightfully won the award.

Just because he didn't play well in the final couple of games doesn't mean he is undeserving of the award. His early performances carried Argentina and he stood out over anybody else during the group stages (bar arguably Muller and Thiago Silva). Also he now has the 3rd all time highest number of successful World Cup dribbles.

As usual the generic, mongy British football fans seem unable base their opinions on anything other than the most recent game. Embarrassing.

How was Messi better than Robben or Rodriguez? Focal for their teams too. Messi is the posterboy of the competition of course he would win a personal award in one way or another.

Rodriguez scored 6 goals and 2 assist playing for a weaker team. Keep your shite opinions to yourself

And Mascherano was by far the Argies best player. Their whole tournament was based on their defensive structure.

He's the best player ever ans has been very good but no-one really stood out for the award. He did tail off in the semi's and final. Unfortunately a lot of people see it as a Messi vs Ronaldo thing and given that Ronaldo played for Man Utd and 90% of the World's populations support them, he was always going to be an unpopular choice.

I'm sure a lot of other players (including James Rodriguez) would also have 'tailed off' from the semi finals had they not been knocked out.

Any human being who put they kind of shift in that Messi did over such a short space of time would start to struggle physically eventually. To compare other players early performances to Messi's final performance is ridiculous.

Messi single handed carried Argentina to the Final with little offencive support. Trouble is we all expect him to grab hatties or dribble through teams at will.

I think he had a good tournament was let dowbn with Higuain & Aguero adding little and injury to Di Maria , but was it better than Robben?

James - whilst having a great tournament with goals, was his all round performances all that? He had some good performances around him too.

Golden Ball - was there really an outstanding player throughout the tournament? As i would have given it to Neaur.....what an amazing tournament!

Came 3rd by 4pts..... decision to select Zab over Blind very costly but still a decent finish £500 prize and won a few mini leagues!

Neuer was an excellent sweeper too.

Thought he was magnificent but once or twice he came very close to disaster. Tonight, that high knee, he got the ball first so was unlikely to be punished but it was dicey. Excellent tournament for him though.

one of the group games a charge out the area went wrong (possibly even the first match) and he somehow got out of jail with just minor heart attacks all round. but i cant think of anything really. the very few goals they did concede you never felt he could have done better, he made some tricky saves look very easy (sort of the opposite to howards/mbohli/ochoa).
and exactly the same on the courtois thought. i thought he made 1 too many howlers but he plays in a way where you have to accept some errors (like peak barthez) as his style stops so many extra attacks too which would otherwise require tough saves

      forgot to mention this.
one thing i feel with neuer is him being such a tank is a factor too. he's so imposing. it's not even a skill really (unless you count eating and gyming) but i'm sure it sometimes puts opposition off, so technically should be added to his rating

God I am bored. I worked my arse off the last 2 nights so I could free up a chunk of tonight to skive off and watch the football on the internet. Now it is over I have nothing to do for 3.5 hours. Why can fpl not be available. Any suggestions on how to fill this void?

Now that the WC has finished and it's only 4 weeks to the start of the season, who of the big teams will suffer the most?

Arsenal = Germany - long run, short break but will be coming back WC winners
Man City = Argentina - long run, short break and distraught from losing
    Chelsea = Brazil - D'Oh
Liverpool = England - long break but will be down for not performing especially Stevie G
Man Utd = Holland - performed better than expected and ended on a high

Of all the returning teams I would expect slow starts from City and Chelando

With Utd's favourable run of fixtures and lack of depressed stars I expect big points early on.
