The arrival of new players to the Premier League can cause headaches for Fantasy managers. Although good form in other leagues does not dictate they will be an instant Premier League success, it can be a useful indicator of whether they are worth investing in. To help you analyse their form elsewhere I have come up with this handy spreadsheet.
Method
The spreadsheet works out the points per appearance that each player would have earned using the Premier League points system last season. Some users may remember that I did the same last year. There is a sheet for the new transfers into the league (e.g. Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas) and also one for the newly promoted clubs. Goalkeepers are left out as, in most cases, this is unnecessary information.
The sheet for the new transfers is split into forwards, midfielders and defenders. It includes simple information such as the transfer price and the old club as well as statistics. The clean sheets statistics for each player relate to the number their new Premier League club kept last season. For instance, Ander Herrera does not have the number of clean sheets his old club, Athletic Bilbao, managed but the number Manchester United did last season. United kept 13 clean sheets in the 38 matches last season which works out as 11 in relation to Herrera’s 32 apps.
The newly promoted clubs sheet is split into three tables, one for each club. It is similar to the previous section. This time the clean sheets stats are for the promoted club’s championship season.
But there are limitations. Some leagues are easier than the Premier League so the player may have a higher points per appearance than he would manage in England.
Updates
I will be refreshing the sheet each week and there will be a new link so watch out in the comments section for it. Eventually, the price and ownership columns will be filled in once the fantasy game is launched. This will allow me to calculate the value for each player. This is worked out by multiplying the points per appearance by 100 and dividing by the price. This figure, when available, is useful when comparing players of similar price only.
