There’s little doubt Charlie Adam was the phenomenon of the Fantasy season gone by. In his debut top-flight campaign, the Blackpool midfielder took the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) by storm, as Ian Holloway’s tactics ensured the Scot was at the hub of everything good about the Seasiders’ play.

Factor in Adam’s set-piece and penalty duties, and here was an anomaly; a cut-price midfielder who could be relied upon for goals, assists and, most eye-catching of all, Bonus Points by the handful. Although Blackpool finally succumbed to the drop, Adam finished the season as second top scorer in FPL with a phenomenal 192 points, picking up the Fantasy points despite his team creeping slowly towards, and ultimately through, the relegation trap door.

The Statistics

Adam made a mockery of his 5.0 starting price as early as gameweek 4, where a 13 point haul in the away win at Newcastle merely hinted at what was to come. Heavy defeats away to Arsenal and Chelsea, however, prompted Fantasy managers to treat him with caution; it wasn’t till gameweek 6 that Adam’s price started to climb.

Home or away, in victory or defeat, Adam picked up the points in equal measure; Holloway’s tactics threw caution to the wind and their playmaker was the main beneficiary. In a season where only three other players picked up more than 30 Bonus Points, Adam was awarded a staggering 45, with his OPTA stats fully indicative of his outstanding all-round involvement.

Subject to bids from Liverpool and Spurs in the January transfer window, Adam’s form definitely dipped; he only picked up 10 Bonus Points since the closure of the transfer window from February onwards but his set-piece and penalty duties balanced this out, as he scored 8 of his 12 goals in the same period.

His best week saw Adam return from a two-match suspension in gameweek 30 and, away to Blackburn, grab both his side’s goals in a 2-2 draw. The resultant award of 3 Bonus Points meant a 15 point haul and rewarded those managers who held onto Adam during the suspension; he had dropped 0.2 in price in the fortnight.

The Prospects

It seems likely that Adam will return to the Premier League this season and the chase for his signature, similar to January, will be between those clubs in the upper echelons. Bearing that in mind, a look at the starting prices of Tottenham’s creative midfielders may offer a hint to his possible price, with somewhere in the region of 7.5 a realistic figure.

A similar Bonus Points return seems unlikely, however, though a playmaker role and guaranteed starts could still see Adam return somewhere in the region of 30-35. His ability from corners and free-kicks suggests he should still get the majority of set-pieces, regardless of where he ends up, though the lack of penalty kick duties will certainly lessen the appeal.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

would you sleep with a gay man? homophobe!

would you sleep with a foreign man? racist!

why the hatred? he clearly deserves to play evey week and SAF didn't give him game time, ironically choosing Berb. instead. You can't really blame him for wanting to play.

I remember when he scored 4 in a cup match and then didn't get picked in the league the following week. Ridiculous.

I didn't agree with Fergie playing Berbs over Tevez, but I really cannot excuse him going over to City, you just don't do that. Also City were offering him unbelievable riches, so he was willing to forego Champions League football as compensation, don't tell me it was just about playing.

I think playing time is the main reason, but if they want to pay him more, and treat him like their star player, who can blame him...he's not from Manchester and doesn't have to play by these provincial antiquated "rules"...he gave them 100% and they didn't appreciate it, so he left, like any employee in his situation would have

Its easy to look like a good player when you can only pass backwards or sideways.

Adam will perform better at a club where the team has more possession and a better defence.

This is nothing against you by the way, just seems that when you voice an opinion about something (i.e. Vaughan is better than Adam) everyone seems to take it as fact.

Addtionally, Chelsea voted Cech their player of the season it doesn't mean he's the best footballer at the club. I'd of voted for Lampard 🙂

He has committed to Inter, but doesn't mean anything if United were to call. I think Sneijder is too obvious a signing for Fergie to go for, which would mean he costs a fortune. I think there is more chance of Douglas Costa coming considering the links we have with Brazilian players.

Yes, he wont go there surely. I don't see why Villa don't give the job to McAllister. If not they should pinch Martinez, now there's a good manager who wants to play football the right way.

i always wonder if people behind the scenes bet, when they know who the manager will be before announcing it to the public/bookies

for example, when preston sacked fergie jr a few months ago and hired phil brown, i found out from a guy i know who used to own preston that he knew brown was going to be hired a few days before it was announced.... i wasn't happy that he hadn't told me!!

A paper publishes some info they have on a possible candidate ->
punters place bets on them ->
candidate's odds getting shorter due to number of bets ->
papers now publish how possible the appointment is, "according to bookmakers/odds"

Pointless. There are usually several favourites for the same place but only one can be appointed, and it's not always the one with the shortest odds.

            Well...its all opinion AP,

but to score 15 goals in at 16 in any top division and 15 at 17, he looks the real deal

and its not cheap goals either
hes strong fast and a good finisher
ive seen a few of his games and he looks the real deal!

All opinion indeed but the belgian league isn't a top devision.... He does look like a unit and a half but there are plenty of incredible young talents out there. Neymar to chelsea worries me, The big belgian doesn't.

I think it would be fair to say in as poor as the belgian league , the brazilian league is equally weak devensively, which is why kids can run thru with ease....

This is why they are prospects after all.... like dont get me wrong

If you offered united lukaku or cavani tomorrow, id take cavani, but hes past being a prospect in my eyes

                in my eyes
                1, lukaku
                2 neymar
                3 hazard

          natasha is captain hindsight.
tom (guy with glasses) basically paraphrases what alan sugar says (a smart tactic imo, as long as it's subtle).
jim looks to have the biggest potential to unravel explosively.
the one to look out for is the petite girl helen, we've barely noticed her yet but she seems pretty competent.
leon could be a bit of a blagger, charming, likeable, but he seems more interested in puns than pitching (why he's a legend 😉 )
hungover djourou in drag has sailed through a bit too well lately, she's due a massive cock up.
glenn is his protégé who will get far due to reminding sir alan of himself, there's one every series. saying that i like him, ballsy, direct and 'normal'.
melody is just an annoying voice to me, haven't had a chance to assess her.
zoe and susan are the most attractive, not sure about them yet.

Leon was on absolutely top form tonight. 'No one has actually said how well I did' 😆

Agree with a lot of what you're saying, although I think Susan is a potential winner too.

I have to say, half of the contestants are pretty anonymous. The series clearly needed more morons- even more so now vincent is gone!

The guy who went in the first week was a moron, although also a top joker. Shame he went really, he was pretty amusing. He just didn't give a shit.

jim is scaring me now, he's a bit too brave in the boardroom, he'll talk down anyone including the 3 on the other side of the table, risky business

i thot bit harsh sacking Vincent altho he is a bit of a git. In the process - Jim did throw an idea out there along with other idea's and having agreed on the one they all need to work to bring that idea to life, but some just dont seem to step up at all.

So could understand Vince's point as to why not bringing Jim into the boardroom as he did things - but LAS really seemed to want to sack Jim.

That opposite PM was an absolute tool tho!!

Gavin? Nah, he's alright.. Like AB says, he's more normal than most of them, and isn't immediately dislikable - at least not to me.

likeable but as a PM he was aweful - very lucky they won or he would have gone.

AB spot on that "djourou" did nothing - but hasnt in a few weeks...alot of candidates coasting.

that one header into lloris' hands, those 2 lay offs. sensational. carroll was lucky he made his debut the game that everyone else was so outclassed that he looked satisfactory.

Well to be fair England were rubbish all round but Carroll did play well. He didnt get much service at all but when he did get the ball he made good use of it. Never said he was sensational or brilliant. He was good. It was pretty much all France though as far as i can remember and Malouda and Nasri ran the show!

fair enough, i'll agree the service was non existent but also disagree that he made something happen when he did get the ball.
you've actually inspired me to update this http://applebonkers.wordpress.com/over-rated/ i feel a bit bad as the price tag has nothing to do with carroll himself
