Remy Cabella and Emmanuel Riviere net again for Newcastle. Leonardo Ulloa bags a brace for Leicester. Lukas Jutkiewicz is at the double for Burnley, Charlie Austin is in the goals once more for QPR, while Alan Hutton fires Villa to victory at Walsall:

Toon New Boys in the Goals
Remy Cabella and Emmanuel Riviere scored for the second successive outing as Newcastle drew 2-2 at Huddersfield Town last night. In defence, Daryl Janmaat was handed his debut at right-back for the Magpies, with Mike Williamson partnering Fabricio Coloccini in the heart of defence and Massadio Haidara on the left. Pardew continued with a 4-4-2 formation, fielding Cabella and Yoan Gouffran on the flanks and with Siem de Jong missing out due to a foot problem once again, summer signings Riviere and Facundo Ferreyra led the line. That’s two goals in as many appearances for Cabella, while Riviere leads the way with three to his name so far; potentially handing us a mid-price differential option (7.0, with 1% ownership) ahead of a decent set of opening fixtures for the Tyneside team. Given that de Jong has also netted twice, the signs look promising for Pardew, with his signings already looking vital additions.

After the game, Pardew confirmed that, despite a lack of pre-season, Janmaat will be a definite starter against City in Gameweek 1:

“He is a class act. He will play for us against Man City – there’s no doubt about that. He had 60 minutes, and hopefully he’ll get 80 on Sunday, and he’ll be ready to go.â€

Austin Nets Again for R’s
Harry Redknapp made just four changes from the side that defeated Shamrock Rovers 4-0 on Saturday for last night’s 2-0 triumph over Athlone Town. Danny Simpson, Steven Caulker, Nedum Onuoha, Joey Barton, Junior Hoilett, Bobby Zamora and Charlie Austin were the men to keep their places and the latter continued the form that saw him bag a brace last weekend by netting his fourth goal of the summer. Zamora chipped in with a goal and assist but despite that lowly 4.5 FPL price tag, Redknapp will surely strengthen up front before the summer transfer window closes, making the 6.0-priced Austin the stronger option ahead of home games with Hull, Sunderland and Stoke in the first five Gameweeks.

Baggies Youngsters Stake a Claim
Joleon Lescott, Sebastien Pocognoli, Gareth McAuley and James Morrison all remained sidelined through injury as Alan Irvine’s side lost 3-2 to Port Vale last night. The Baggies boss fielded a mixture of senior figures and academy graduates and lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Craig Gardner tucking in behind lone forward Victor Anichebe – both players picked up an assist apiece after teeing up youngsters Kemar Roofe and Bradley Garmston for the visitors’ goals. In all likelihood, though, neither of last night’s scorers look like retaining their starting berths once Irvine’s injury problems finally come to an end. Elsewhere, Andre Wisdom was again handed the full 90 minutes at right-back – whilst it raises hopes over his appeal as a 4.0 FPL option, it remains to be seen where he’ll sit in the pecking order once new boy Cristian Gamboa is ready for action.

Hutton Wins it for Villa
The Scotsman grabbed the only goal of the game as Paul Lambert’s side defeated Walsall 1-0. Farmed out on loan last term, Hutton is turning in some decent displays as a right wing-back in Villa’s 3-5-2 formation which suggests he may yet have a part to play in his manager’s plans this time around – at 4.0 in FPL, he could potentially hand us a cheap fifth defender option, though with just two favourable fixtures in the first eight, few are eyeing up the midlands side right now. Ron Vlaar watched from the stands as he builds up his match fitness, while Darren Bent joined Joe Cole on the sidelines with injury. In terms of selection, Lambert opted for Jores Okore, Ciaran Clark and Nathan Baker as the back-three, with Kieran Richardson fielded on the left of the midfield five and a front two of Gabby Agbonlahor and Andi Weimann.

Jutkiewicz at the Double
The Clarets summer signing continued his excellent pre-season by scoring both goals in a 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo. With Danny Ings missing out due to a minor calf complaint, Jutkiewicz was partnered by Ashley Barnes up front and took his tally to five for the summer; joint-top with Stevan Jovetic and Glenn Murray so far. First-choice keeper Tom Heaton made his first appearance of the summer after recovering from a calf problem, whilst Sean Dyche rolled out last season’s regular back-four – Kieran Trippier, Jason Shackell, Michael Duff and Ben Mee – ahead of the final friendly against Verona on Saturday.

After the match, the Burnley boss heaped praise on new boy Jutkiewicz, who has make a significant impact since arriving from Middlesbrough earlier in the summer. Dyche also explained Ings’ absence and dismissed suggestions the frontman could be set to depart the club:

“I thought Lukas’ first goal was an excellent finish after he showed good strength to shrug off his man. We know he is very powerful and then he had the calmness to slot it past the keeper. The second one comes from some fantastic play from Ashley Barnes and he puts a great ball across the box and Lukas is in the right place which is where you want your strikers to be…He’s (Ings) not going anywhere, he just had a knock and we had to be careful with it. We have to make sure at this stage of the season as it is vital the players come through it. Everyone knows there was a few knocks in the early part of the game programme and we had to leave people out to make sure they’re fit and well for when it really matters.â€

Ulloa Bags a Braces in Foxes Canter
Leicester’s summer signing from Brighton found the net twice last night in a 3-1 win at Rotherham. Bearing in mind The Foxes played MK Dons the night before, Nigel Pearson changed his entire XI for yesterday’s encounter, with Ulloa joined by 2013/14 regulars such as Kaspar Schmeichel, Ritchie de Laet, Liam Moore, Danny Drinkwater and Anthony Knockaert – Drinkwater netted his second of the summer, though Knockaert will need monitored after being forced off with an ankle problem according to the club’s website. While Ulloa’s display will have caught the eye, David Nugent is the man in form for the Championship winners – despite being rested last night, the latter still leads the way this summer for Pearson’s side, with four goals to his name thus far.

I'm with you pal! Snoddy is a great differential for the first 4 or 5 weeks, some great fixtures and he should get plenty of assists for Jelavic and Long. Siggy's first 4 fixtures don't really excite me if I'm honest, with away games to United and Chelsea. But I'll probably do Snoddy ---> Siggy after GW4 sometime.

Sports illustrated did a list of the 50 fittest athletes in the world. Hard task comparing who the "fittest" athletes in the world are given they all play different sports, but surely Micah Richards isn't the 2nd fittest footballer in the world? 😆

Few other strange ones in there too. ðŸ˜

    Footballers on the list:
    2. Cristiano Ronaldo
    23. Micah Richards
    24. Hulk
    29. Sergio Ramos
    34. Nani
    42. Tim Howard
    44. Diego Forlan

All ahead of Chris Froome at 45...

He was a Fantasy revelation in 2012. Went to Swansea on loan in January, scored 7 and assisted 5 in half a season . He should play in the hole again and be on set pieces. Because he was wasted at Spurs he's priced at 6.0 which makes him a bargain if he can deliver like his first stint at Swansea

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Next week sees the first podcast of the season. Mark and Granville are now looking for ideas for how to choose their Scoutcast team each week. Last year's team involved a ban on players from the previous season's Top 4 sides. What do you think should be the theme for this season's Scoutcast team?

All players must have below 5% ownership when bought. They can be kept as long as they like, provided that when bought the ownership is below 5%. This will test Mark and Granville's ability to spot successful bandwagons before they happen.

Granny manages a team using only players from Northern clubs, Mark manages one using only players from Southern clubs. Not sure how the midlands clubs would be divided up.

Mark manages a team that must take a 4 point hit every week. Granny's team can't ever take a hit.

The team must play 5 defenders every week (might be an interesting experiment).

Well, the idea is that their team would be a good advice instead of bad one.

It also could still be significantly different from most teams. Or should, at least, if they are supposed to be better at this than most.

Of course, that's only until everybody copies it.

Well, if you want to make the team restricted just for the flair, how about doing the Falling Stars concept of Wakey's. Only players who cost less than when the season started. That produced some interestingly strong teams and quite automatically avoided all wagons.

Begin the season with players with surnames beginning A - O (first 15 letters of the alphabet). You can then only transfer up one letter each time. I.e next transfer you can take out any player but must transfer in a 'P' name and so on.

If a surname does not have a corresponding player, or that player has already been included in the team it may be skipped.

      Point hits may be incurred.

How about they have to plan their free transfer a gameweek in advance. I.e, they must decide what they will use the free transfer they are given for GW 2 BEFORE GW 1 starts. Before GW2 starts, they'd have to have decided what their FT was going to be for GW 3 and so on.

Hits, and the wildcard, could be used at any time to rectify poorly conceived transfers. If a player got injured/dropped after the transfer was set in stone, a hit would have to be used if they wanted to take them out again in the same week.

They could also decide that they may want to bank their transfer in advance, in which case NO transfers could be made in that designated week, regardless of a wish to take hits.

I think it could be quite funny, with very poor, short-term bandwagons being jumped upon too early, and players getting injured/dropped before they are even brought into the team. It would be challenging, but not impossible, to do well, and if would certainly give them something to discuss on the podcast 😛

      Thoughts?

Perhaps if an elected panel (to be rotated monthly?) can facilitate a community team, posting an RMT each day we could get enough input to have a genuine input from the community. When the time comes to make a crucial decision a community team hot topic can draw attention to it and the community will decide what happens next.

Maybe Mark and Granny decide the initial team and have a discussion over which transfers to make each week - then the community gets to decide which of their choices to go for?

I do like the 'only 1 player from each team' handicap

Got a Chelsea defender, then no Chelsea attackers
Have a Man City midfielder, want a Man city forward, 4pt hit it is

You have to identify effectively the best player from each team. It should reward having good player rotations, make jumping on bandwagons harder, and make double gameweek selections more interesting

Ward is a safe choice, but at 5.0M is on the costly side. If they can replicate last season Pulis-miracle he'll be worth it though.

I'm rotating Simpson and Chester. They have decent fixtures when combined and I can imagine the occassional clean sheet from either and possible attacking returns from Simpson.

As for my 4.0 bench fodder. Potentially Hutton or Bartley, I want a low ownersip % but still a chance of playing. I don't want to be losing value from my bench early on.

Not really. He's missed almost the entire pre-season due to the WC so it will be tough for him, not being a natural right back, to force out Bardsley who is a natural right back in the opening fixtures. He definitely wants to play centrally either at the back or in front of the defence, but again Shawcross & Huth pretty much have the CB positions nailed down. A lot of us Stoke fans would like to see him in the CDM position but he has never played there for us and again with missing pre-season hasn't had the chance to have a go there.

I personally think Hughes wants to keep him and he want to stay but I do think he'll struggle to make the side GW1 purely because he has missed so much pre season.

Rooney/Costa/Bojan for me, but Austin is pretty common too.

If what TheFantasyFreak is saying in the last hot-topic about Bartley, then we could take advantage of a good 3-way rotation for 12m in the defense.

    Wisdom + Moore + Bartley

    gives you

SUN, BUR, WBA, stk, SOT, BUR, BUR, stk, LEI, WBA, NEW, SUN, CPL, QPR, hul, AVL, hul, AVL, hul, qpr

for the first 20 gameweeks and you could use your other 2 spots for bringing 2 big-hitters..

Gents (& ladies ofc) - current team is below, I like it as it stands but it's lacking the Chelsea firepower for the first 2 games. In order to get Hazard in to my midfield 5 I need to make the below changes. To Hazard or Not To Hazard; that is the Question?

    (A)
    Bego (Krul)
    Taylor Cahill Shaw Cameron Chambers
    Siggy Sterling Hoilett Mata Sanchez
    Dzeko Bojan Rooney

    or,
    (B) the above except

Ultimately I think Fab will sit deeper next to Matic, once Schurrle (who is top of my watchlist once fit) Oscar Willian etc are back in the fold.

Saying its not an rmt does not stop it being an rmt 🙂

Personally im not sold on costa but if you want him then you really stuck with bojan, no where else to cut from as you already pretty lean in defence

Swap Sanchez for Ramsey for the extra cash you need.

Good morning/evening folks! Today is the first day i've got a chance to look at FPL and I probably won't get much of a chance to look at it properly for the first couple of months, so, any chance of directing me in the right direction..

Should this keep me afloat for a while:

    De Gea Gilks

    Luis Azpilicueta Caulker Wisdom Colochini

    Sanchez Eriksen Siggy Mata Albrighton

    Rooney Jovetic Riviere

1.5m left over. Any help or is it alright for now?

Robertson might play left back I heard. Scottish young player of the year last year

General consensus with Hull fans is that Robertson will slot in at LB

He's in my team until I hear otherwise

Not banned, but 'encouraged' to be posted on the dedicated community article, away from sensitive eyes 😉

And do people generally go to this dedicated community article specifically to reply to RMTs out of the kindness of their heart? 😛

Some do. Scratching backs and so on. Could do with more, obviously.

Perhaps we should set up a "community service" programme for troll offenders.
Jonty can sentence them to 10 RMTs before they can start posting again 😉

😆 that would be perfect 😀 and also the first step towards FFS becoming a dictatorship that allows corporal punishment among members.

            ...Maybe less perfect.
