The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

D1sable tells us he wants a Manchester United and a Chelsea defender but he is unsure about Luis Felipe’s game time and doesn’t trust Manchester United defenders to stay fit. Luke Shaw’s fitness is a particular concern.

He hasn’t gone for rotation at the back,  just selected defenders from defensive sides. While in midfield he really wants Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure but he has found he just decimates the team with his price. Toure could be brought in with a wildcard later.  He is also a reluctant owner of Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata, with Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas waiting in the wings. Liverpool’s attack is another area he feels he is lacking and he is concerned that Diego Costa may not be the best route into Chelsea goals and assists.

    So after major surgery I think I've ended up with what I guess is a very template team, not sure how I feel about that:

    DDG | Gilks
    Luis | BDavies | Caulker | Ward | Duff

    Costa | Rooney | Jovetic

    Have 0.5m in the bank which I may use to upgrade Luis to Azpilicueta.

      Had to lose Sanchez which I'm annoyed about, could downgrade Ward to a 4.0m and upgrade Ramsey to Sanchez but it leaves my bench very light.

    Defence too weak? Looking at rotating Bojan and Siggy:
    No Arsenal and Man City worries me, any changes to suggest?

      dont like siggy bo rotation coz it costs 11.5 and if siggy gets near his previous swansea form then he has to start every week surely

    First ever RMT after following FFS for a couple of seasons:

    Green/Speroni
    Evans/Cahill/Davies /Moore/Hutton
    Fab/Ramsey/Sterling/Siggy /Albrighton
    Rooney/Costa/Bojan

    Got 2m in the bank so thinking one of:
    a) upgrade sterling to mata (+ 1m in bank)
    b) sterling->mata AND Fab to Hazard (0.5 in bank)
    c) upgrading albrighton to a 6.5 midfielder (e.g. Sondgrass)

    Thoughts please!

      upgrade Albrighton to a 5.5 (Shelvey-Mutch-Noble-or even A Young)

      IMO prefer Beg to Sper

      with the last 1.0 make Davies Debuchy or Lovren

        Cheers both, very useful. Have changed keepers to free up some cash, upgraded Davies to Vert, Sterling to Mata and Fab to Hazard. No money ITB but feel much better about the team.

        What's wrong with three Chelsea attackers? They have good fixtures to start. Fabregas in the no 10 position, Hazard is penalty taker, and Diego Costa up top. I'm hedging my choices.

        I didn't know Mannone may not start. I'll keep an eye on that.

    Am thinking I'm probably not going to tinker with it too much at this stage unless there's something glaringly obvious that I'm overlooking? I know Lukaku has a fitness issue but I think I'll hold on to him anyway even if he's not good to go for GW1. As always, any and all feedback gratefully received.

        Cheers. Dzecko /or Jovetic I'm unsure of.

        Fed up of using my WC too early so have tried to go with nailed on picks / avoid injury plagued players. Moore rotates well with Targett.

        Could also change Krul for Gilks to free up .5 for Dzecko.

        Tomorrow will tell me a wee bit more about Chambers / Man City fwd.

    So my team as it stands is...

    Krul Foster

    Vertonghen Evans Huth Coloccini Clyne

    Eriksen Sanchez Hazard Siggy Snodgrass

    Rooney Dzeko Nugent

    The current dilemmas I have running around my mind are...

    GK: Is this the best double act? Or should this be swapped for DDG + 4mil

    DEF: Is a Chelski defender essential? They all cost so much and until their back 4/5 is settled, it'd be my luck to pick the defender that misses out.

    Vert may be a bit of a punt, and I could save a million by opting for Davies. But Davies may get rotated with Rose! Under Poc I think Vert may get a bit more licence to head upfield, which he showed in patches last season. See punt!

    Also, I like the cut of Debuchy, (watched him all last season) just not convinced by his attacking returns.

    MID: Pretty much template although my choices remain Sanchez/Rambo, Eriksen/Lamela, Siggy to Tadic downgrading Snodgrass to Albrighton.

    Obvious exclusions are Mata and Silva both for the same reason. These were my morcambe and wise of last season as I played both of them but not at the right time! (copyright Fantacity!) So holding back until I think they are entering their respective purple patches.

    ATT: Would like Mr Sturridge but he's just too expensive and concerns over his fitness have moved him from my team. Costa just isn't floating my boat and with Hazard I'm happy with my Chelski coverage.

    Also Pelle at the Saints is of interest, and if I go down that route in GW2 I'm quite happy with all the options around Nugents price range. Bojan, Austin, Long to name a few.

    Overall the lack of Liverpool coverage and Citeh if I take out Dzeko may hurt me in the long run!

    Now, I'm going for a walk. If someone can cure all my ills for when I get back I, and my sanity would be most grateful!

      I see that you have put a lot of thought into your team and post.

      There are no problems with the Krul/Foster rotation... Bonus for goalies is down this year, so they are not a massive area of investment anyway.

      I agree on Vert. Great choice especially with Poch.

      I wonder if you might spend your money more wisely in defence by swapping Huth and Clyne for Caulker and Ward. The palace/newcastle/qpr rotation looks great and you can basically play the other two constantly anyway. Also, caulker has some goal threat and ward will be up on bonus this time round.

      I think not having mata is a mistake. He is a fantasy beast... He started to find it at the end of last year but now sits behind an in-form rooney playing in his best position with those fixtures.

      I would drop a 6M mid to a 4.5. And spend the cash on Nugent.

      May as well keep snoddy to start and swap out for siggy in gw2-3?

      Just my thoughts!

        Had Caulker in, so may revert back. Heard mutterings that Ward may not be nailed on but something to keep an eye on. Anyone in a Pulis defence is worth having!

        There's something about Southampton that has my interest, which is matched in the RMT predictor. Any of their players I've mentioned could be great differentials!

        Mata will keep me up at night! I could swap sanchez for Rambo and upgrade Eriksen? I could drop Snodgrass/Siggy to albrighton and I would have the cash to put Pelle upfront.

        Ahhh, the fun of this game. I do miss it.

      Huth is not nailed on IMO go to DDG-4.0 and upgrade Huth to Debuchy or Lovren or some other 5.5

      I really like this team. Tempted by Arnautovic, saw him at Emirates last year and was the only lively Stoke player on the pitch.

      Not sure Huth is nailed on. Don't know about Chester, Shackell or Hoilett really.

      Did Pulis sign Hennessy purely as a backup keeper?

          He was brilliant in the last 10 games of the season and starts every week with no injuries. Worth the £8.5m. I can afford Silva and prefer him as a player but he let me down too many times last season being subbed off for poor fitness etc

      Too back heavy. I saw a stat on here last week about how the percentage of clean sheets over the last 5 seasons was at it lowest in the first 3 months of the season. That's a good enough sample for me.

      I've got £5.5 £5.0 £5.0 in my first XI at the back and a better forward line, I feel that's the way to go. Your team ain't bad by any stretch though.

        I seewhat you're saying. But of his eight goals scored in the Premier League, five have come after the 50-minute mark. And I want to take that risk against Burnley and Leicester. Either he starts or he comes off the bench - and I feel everytime he comes off the bench he creates something. If he doesn't by the first or second game - I'll sub him to e.g Tadic if he does well. I'll risk it.

      Heard rumours on here that Ward may not be nailed on. I'm not part of the group that think a Chelski defender is essential although Cahill is the best shout. (I've gone rouge with Verthongen)
      I had PVH but just swapped him for Chambers.

      Think Fab will play a little far back so may not be the best Chelski option. I'm not on board with Costa, but that'll probably hurt me more than you. I'd downgrade him to Dzeko to free up cash to swap Fab for Hazard.

      Like the Bojan punt, but that's what it is a bit of a punt. But good options in that price bracket. Nugent, Long, Austin etc.

      Good luck. I've only made 7 transfers this morning! I'm getting better!

    Just having a look at your team and have a few thoughts

    De Gea/Hamer
    Filipe Luis, Chester, Moore, Cameron, Mariappa
    Sterling, Ramsey, Albrighton, Sigurdsson, Mata
    Rooney, Diego Costa, Dzeko

    - Real issues in defence I think, only Chester is nailed on. Cameron is at particular risk.
    - Im starting to have second thoughts on Sigurdsson. He has two tough fixtures in the first 4 weeks and if Bony isn't sold Siggy might have to play on the wing with Gomis and Bony up front.
    - Albrighton could be at risk of a major price drop if he doesn't start well straight away. The first players to be transferred in in huge numbers tends to be the budge bandwagons, If Albrighton drops below 4.5m he'd be difficult to shift out.

        I agree that the 4.5 options are scarce. Have you considered going for a 5m option? Davis looks nailed on and is playing in the hole at Southampton.

        I think this new team of yours is much more solid, Doubts remain over Wisdom and Moore I think but the options are limited in that price category.

      Agree with a lot of this Ryan.
      That strike force comes with a games by price and unstabilises the team.
      I'm considering Roo/Costa/Pelle the last at least is nailed and may give the required returns in a more balanced team.

        I like Pelle as an option. I'm finding it hard to give up Dzeko myself, the community shield will probably put more light on the situation. Pelle is my backup if I choose to forgo City attack.

      How nailed on is Bruce? just curious

      I think its wise to drop Luis, I'm becoming ever more convinced Mourinho will put his faith in last seasons defence to begin the season.

      Zamora is a fairly dodgy pick, probably better options out there. I think Nugent would make a nice bench option. Not convinced by Dummett or Moore, are they nailed on?

        I assumed that Bruce would be fairly nailed on and with and with Santon injured Dummett would start (seemed to do alright last year)

        Yeah i have this dilemma if whether to downgrade hazard to fabregas, although fab will get points as hazard plays further up and had pens last year I chose him but may still swap (and then nugent could become an option)
