The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

The next up is our fixtures specialist Roscola.

Begovic – (Gilks)
Azpilicueta – Evans – van Aanholt – (Wisdom – Bartley)
Mata – Fabregas – Ramsey – Sterling – Sigurdsson
Rooney – Costa – (Zamora)

Roscola admits his team has a major flaw in that it is potentially benchless. He says though that he’s happy for QPR striker Bobby Zamora never to play, because this is a 3-5-2 that reverts to four at the back for first sub. He believes that there are more points available in the budget bracket in defence than further upfield. Sticking with this basic strategy he is looking for advice to find extra funds to invest in his bench. Downgrading Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas to Manchester City’s Samir Nasri is one option he is considering.

    Any help would be most appreciated. Pretty happy with the starting lineup but is it too risky to play with such a weak bench? Myhill and Zamora are of course non starters and Moore and Wisdom might also be doubtful?

      Really nice attack. I'd try and do better than Zamora, at least try track down a starter anyway, sometimes you'll need your sub.

        Cheers. Any suggestions for upgrading Zamora? Bojan seems to be a popular choice but I'm not really sure who to downgrade. I'd also like a cheaper option for a Chelea defender, but Cahill and Terry seem to be the only sure starters.

      It is pretty risky, however DDG will play every week (unless injury) so you're pretty safe there. Wisdom should be alright, risky however with a powerful starting 11 it could pay off

        Thanks for the reply. Yeah, my though was either going with rotating two 4.5 goalies or going with De Gea and playing him every week. I opted for the latter (thus far)

    New member, was just directed here. I'm struggling a little, and feel like I'm making my team worse every time I change something. After some tinkering I have this lineup:

    DDG - Myhill
    Luis - Debuchy - Dawson (Bruce, Wisdom)
    Hazard - Sanchez - Eriksen - Sterling (Albrighton)
    Rooney - Bojan - Dzeko

    I'm unsure about having a spurs-defender as a "steady" on the team, I'm concerned about the bench. Heck, I'm concerned about everything. Any input would be very much appreciated.

      I think Spurs defence will be strong this season, but maybe not immediately. Not keen on Dawson, else looks standard.

          Other than Vert who is expensive, no idea who is nailed on. Dawson likely to play, but I would be tempted to wait until GW4-5 and look at Lovren or Man U defender for the extra 0.5 if you can. Else a Crystal Palace def like Ward

      I like the front 8 but defense is pretty awful. Maybe Sanchez -> Ramsey and use the money on defense but that would probably be too much like the template

    Playing with the absurd notion of not having a Chelsea defender.

    The ol' RMT team is showing 335.95 for the first 6 gameweeks with this lot. Highest I've seen it go so far.

        Thanks for the reply N3XUS06. Pelle will play most weeks - posted like that because Mutch has an easier opening fixture.

        Austin would be a decent shout but I expect Pelle to completely outscore him.

        Ward's opening fixture is against Arsenal so I'd be wary of that!

      Personally i am just going with players who are nailed on and will work out what i need to do after GW 1.

      I guess Vlaar or Bojan as back up if he didn't start wouldn't be to bad but what if he comes off the bench ?

      I have the same dilemma, I replaced him with Ramsey and upgraded Fab to Hazard. I don't think he's fully match fit atm and if he blanks on GW1 I think a lot will get rid and his price will plummet….but just in case i've kept 0.5 itb to buy him back in case he rises rapidly… Hope this helps

          yep - sounds good then - stay with Sterling and perhaps downgrade Evans? Just go with CHE for strong Def cover (and keep Ward). Perhaps take a risk and go 4.5m + 4.0m for your GKPs.

      Wisdom is more of a short term I think. Bruce is questionable esp since the formation has to 3-5-2. If not then he wont start. Duff is a certain starter and Baird.
      If you do have some cash, try to get Newcastle mid to rotate with Bojan, have a feeling they will do well this year.

      4.0 for Wisdom is OK for a while - I don't think any 4.0m Def is safe. A very good team - similar to mine:

      I guess it all gets done to how well Costa scores over the first few GWs.

      Personally, I think it's a risk to heavily involve Stoke defenders in your team due to fixtures. It might work but I prefer to spread players from mid-table clubs evenly

          Yeah, I like that way of thinking and Ward is a good option to rotate. Do those two teams rotate well?

          The rest of your team looks strong. I like Ki in there as a rotation with Bojan, I don't think many will have that combo.

      I like your keepers.
      Defence in my mind HAS to include chelsea and/or City defenders (2) who are in your team week in and week out; then the other 3 defenders rotate with each other depending on their fixtures.

      Lamela is risk to me, I'm going sit and wait to see how Spurs start. Isgrove IMO is too young to be a consistent starter

      Attack looks strong considering fixtures.

      I think a lot of people are ignoring Liverpool's potential citing fixtures but I think they've shown no matter where they're playing they score goals

        My previous draft had Luis Evans Lovern in it but for now, I cant call the Chelsea defence and I think its prone to rotation. I do agree though that a quality regular defender provides more points vs price than most attacking players.

      Good - but if you're going to sacrifice a third decent striker with Bojan, I would ditch Siggy for a better player - even if it means depleting defence further.....

      But it's a fine line - i'd possibly stick

    So tempted with Jovetic, and probably i will play early WC on GW3...
    Chambers + 4 mil. defender can be transfered for 2 playing defenders for a hit...

      Siggy and Bojan rotate better and its £0.5 cheaper which you can use to upgrade Wisdom to Taylor (SWA)

      If you want a gamble, Wilson\Bartley (if both start) rotate very well together for only £8.5m
