The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

The next Fantasy Premier League RMT contender is Alex Bowers, the winner of the Ultimate Fantasy Premier League Beta version 2013/14.

Alex is not thrilled about having Gylfi Sigurdsson on the bench for the first Gameweek so he is open to alternative suggestions for his fifth midfield slot. He is adopting a wait-and-see aproach regarding Chelsea midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City. Is he right to wait?

    Early season will monitor Liverpool. Can bring in Coutinho/Sterling at one of Mata/Nasri/Eriksen's expense easily. An extra 0.5m saved might even run with Lovren as third def.

    Will keep an eye on Siggy too. Maybe a 6.0m striker might prove to be better. Who knows at this stage!

      For me the only nailed on Chelsea defender is Cahill - I wouldn't risk Luis.

      How about my issue:

        I think he'll play more often than not. Only has Azpi to compete, and Mourinho has said he wants him at RB. We'll see..

        For you.. Sterling/Nasri/Eriksen for Pool/City/Spurs cover + 6.0m FW? You'll have to play the 6.0m every week..

        I don't like any strikers outside of Rooney/Costa, hence my 3-5-2.

        Actually, Giroud and 6.0m mid would work, benching Wanyama? Snoddy/Siggy? Gives you a double up of three title favs, not so silly. 🙂

          Lots of 4.0 options, Hutton, Bartley, duff, Moore seem likeliest. I played with doing that upgrade but hurt my midfield too much, would do similar to your I think

    Anyone going without a Chelsea attacker to start with? Think I'd rather Sturridge over Costa, and I can't seem to afford Hazard without destroying the rest of my team.

      Mannone's a risky pick, we don't know for sure if he'll be number one, but it could certainly pay off well. Not a fan of Debuchy - card magnet and tough fixtures in a defence which could be without it's only two centre backs. Looking golden otherwise, though.

      Ppl losing love with Siggy given his potential wide position, Davis good cheap bencher, Austin good to swap with hull forward or bojangles. Maybe Vlaar to Ferdinand for rotation with chester

    I'm leaning towards Costa at the moment because I want my side to have a few captaincy options/ think Costa is more explosive + more nailed on than Giroud.

      Great team, similar to mine as mentioned. I'm not convinced with Krelliot and see more value in Kroster, but that's rather immaterial in the grand scheme of things.

      Sturridge is a solid pick, but I'm not sure if he's a better pick than Costa, especially for the first few weeks. Otherwise brilliant team all-round (I'm a fan of budget defences myself).

        An interesting one indeed. I'm quite nervous not owning Sturridge, but to be fair after the first week he has tough fixtures. I predict Costa to come out the blocks firing, as with Hazard. Just a gut feeling.

        IMHO Cesc/Studge will score about the same as Haz/Cost in the long-run.

      Very budget at the back... I think I'd have a Chelsea defender. Personally unconvinced by Hazard, he looked very out of form at the World Cup.

        Hmm. I take your point - there are a few reasons to suggest Haz might start the season slowly: poor world cup, not that much of a pre-season behind him, etc. But, both his explosiveness and undeniable quality are too hard to overlook personally. First up he's against newly promoted opposition, operating in an attacking team (Luis behind him this year, a more attacking, versatile left back compared with Azpilicueta who is quite static and shy going forward) with a quality striker in Costa up-front (finally someone to convert his crosses into assists) - these ingredients suggest he'll only improve from last year.

        Not 100% certain, but he has played the last few pre-season friendlies, so hopefully he can nail down a place in the team. There aren't too many options at 4.0 though, so I think he's probably the best.

          Liam Moore (Leicester) is apparently nailed-on for 4.0, but Leicester have very tough opening fixtures, unfortunately.

      Hutton is nailed on, I'd say, as is Duff, IIRC.

      Your team is great all-round BTW. I'd go with Wanyama or Marney over El Ahmadi although all three are nailed on.

      PvA is quite attacking and priced well, hence his popularity 'round these parts.

      Nice team BTW. Only change I'd make is going with Begovic/4.0 as opposed to Speroni. Bego has better fixtures by far.

      Everyone seems to think Chelsea Def is a must. Personally I think they are a bit too pricey and risk rotation at some point. Without personal bias I think that looks pretty good.
