The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Alex is not thrilled about having Gylfi Sigurdsson on the bench for the first Gameweek so he is open to alternative suggestions for his fifth midfield slot. He is adopting a wait-and-see aproach regarding Chelsea midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City. Is he right to wait?

      Some interesting choices in there.

      Likes: Begovic, Cahill, Lovren, Ramsey, Fabregas, Eriksen, Rooney

      Doubts: Debuchy (settled in yet?), Davies (will he play ahead of Rose?) Dzeko (Just didn't look at the races in the community shield), Henderson (will his game be one of assisting the assister?)

      Dislikes: Moore (just because the Leicester opening fixtures are pants, but on the upside, he seems to be nailed on), Young (what is your thinking on this one?) Pelle (too soon to say, but could be worth a gamble) ...

        Henderson what I've seen pre-season is going to play a more forward role (well that's my thinking )

        Young I can see playing for the first few weeks and hes had a great pre-season in new role as a wb
        ( if he loses he's place iv'e got a few 5.5 in mind)
        Dzeko is in till Giroud is up to speed (but your right he was poor sunday)

        Moore is really just bench fodder but I needed someone who would be playing and cheap

            All good thinking so you should stick with it. When your choices are based on reasoning it's a well to go with it, otherwise when you change about and one of your differentials does well (it might be Pelle!) you'll be kicking yourself.

      Midfield and FOrwards are very similar to mine. Why are you going with Yoshida? Very interesting pick. Jagielka I would be worried about the Everton rotating CB with Stones and Distin, plus their first set of fixtures are awful.

        Yoshida: because he is cheap. Going for midfield power. Who would you suggest over Jagielka? Or even Yoshida?

        I just have a crazy feeling the first two games Costa will get more than Rooney.

        Rooney - Swansea & Sunderland

        Costa - Burnley & Leicester.

        I just feel like he will get more. Could be wrong

          Why not both? But i always prefer R over C because Man Utd attacking-mind, Chelsea defensive-mind, plus Costa is a fresh new and Chelsea has too much finishers.

      Very similar with mine, but I love CHE defs (expensive but safe). Sterling risk rotation when LIV go into Cjampions League.

    Can someone tell me how the increase in player values goes in the first few weeks? I fancy going for an increase in value on a few punts. Is it ground zero at the start, so only based on subsequent transfers in? Or not, and those players most selected for starting squads will see an increase in value?

    1.0m in the bank, plan for future upgrade from Chambers to Debuchy or Wisdom to B.Davies etc. I believe Chambers and Wisdom start GW1.

    Any advice would be gladly taken onboard! (My only worry is no chelsea defender, but to do that I'd have to downgrade Dzeko to Austin or Hazard to Eriksen which I'm not really keen on but hey ho!)

    Bojan & Hoilett to cycle by matchups, best 3 of 5 mediocre defenders to play, again by matchup

    Hoping for a 0.2 rise in Chambers before I cash in for 0.1 in the bank

    As I won't need Foster again until 25th October, may swap him for a 4.0 next week to allow Chambers to Clyne, or perhaps Sterling to Silva/Gerrard if Sterling flops.

    Thoughts?

    Any glaring mistakes?

    Not overly keen on my def but had to sacrifice somewhere and i think this seems stable. Originally had Luis in for Debuchy but scared of his status. Also something not sitting right with Siggy. Ive noticed he seems a very popular choice here... Im considering using my 0.5 to swap him out for Adam Johnson... viable?

    Any help most appreciated cheers 😉

    Costa. Rooney. Bojan

    Isgrove and Moore have perfect rotation through season all 38 games.

    Bojan and Duff have good rotation through season.

        Moore has started most preseason games and is almost certainly going to start the season, Isgrove has started the last 3 and unless RK buys in the next few days I suspect Lloyd will be starting the season too.

        And i wouldn't worry about your 4 mil defs, your hardly going to rotate any of them with your awesome starting 11! And if one of your 11 gets a reasonable injury, that's what your free transfers are there for. I hate having money on the bench, personally.

        Wouldn't want to play Wanyama or any other 4./5 million subs anyway, if you have such a good well balanced starting 11 you have to compromise on the bench. Try and upgrade your bench you end up damaging your starting 11 in my opinion.

          There are 4.0 defenders and 4.5 midfielders who are better value and more likely starters though.

          Plus you lose the advantage of rotating through tough fixtures, you're probably a FF rookie so I suggest you look into getting the best out of your squad rather than getting the best out if your starting eleven.

            I don't consider it a risk pal, i got in the top 10k last year and rarely touched my bench to be honest. Every season is different though so maybe i was just lucky.

            I don't think he's a rookie, his team looks spot on.

          Could drop Giroud to a 7 million to gain an extra million to add 2 x 4.5 defenders to your bench if you were that worried. Remy would be the obvious choice but i'm not sure if he is even match fit.

            No, I don't think he is.

            My team 2, with Bojan, gives me a stronger bench. But then the obvious gamble is that Bojan carries his pre-season form into the Prem. And we know from years' past that often that just doesn't happen ...

            But there's always a bit of a gamble with anything isn't there? So maybe I should just flip a coin!

              Problem with Bojan, or so i am informed...during his time in Italy and Holland he rarely lasted longer than 60 minutes, and it's actually looking like he's been playing on the right side with Arny or Odemwingie on the left.

              For all Villa are awful, i really like Weiman and Aghbonlahor for 5.5. They do play every week and usually last the full match, especially while Benteke is out.

              Team 1 is my verdict. Hate having money on the bench, i would rather have it in the bank pal. There is no right and wrong way, it's all about luck to be honest.

      I like team 2 looks very balanced just Chambers might only get 1 week and my feeling on Costa is he's to hot headed and might see red....

      Maybe a Crystal Palace defender to rotate with Ferdinand in case Chambers is on bench?

      My question marks would go next to Riviere and Hoilett.

      One of my friends is a staunch QPR fan and attended their preseason game v PAOK. His advice was to steer clear of Hoilett.

      All else looks good to me.

        Yea i had my doubts, i have 1 million in the bank for emergency week 2 transfers so that was the thinking behind it. I'm a toon fan and i'm confident in Riviere, the guy has got everything, been watching him all pre season. Strong, athletic, good technically and good in the air so he will be staying.

        Cheers for the input on Hoilett though pal, any ideas who you would go instead for 5 or 5.5? Would your pal recommend Mutch?

      Debuchy is a yellow card magnet.
      Ferdinand will leak goals.
      Poor defensive subs, unlikely to start.
      Hoillet poor.
      Marney (see Debuchy)
      Rivière is a huge risk.

      Rest of your team looks awesome though pal.

        Debuchy is also an assist magnet, big toon fan here. Watched his potential all last season, yellow cards through frustration for a team gettnng hammered week in week out and playing poor football. (Not many better routes into Arsenal's backline either)
        Agreed on Ferdy probably away from home, but think QPR will be ok at home under Redknapp.
        Agree on Hoilett now i've heard everyones opinions.
        Riviere looks the real deal having wathced him all pre season. Depends on the type of football we play so he could be a risk.

      Hearing Rio isn't nailed for starts every week, I've paid the extra 0.5 for Caulkner. Nice Snoddy pick, the 6.0 slot is an interesting one--Siggy, Puncheon, and Hendo all provide good options as well.

      Monitor Albrighton fitness, could be in for a quick price drop if he doesn't start GW1!

        Thanks for the feedback. You make a valid point regarding Albrighton. Leicester have EVE, che, ARS, sto, MUN first five, maybe he will be sold a lot due to injury and these fix'.

        I also consider Snoddy -> Mutch and Rio -> Ward/Caulker.

      Not sure on Henderson love, would consider Siggy better option myself.

      Fletcher is an interesting pick, I remember that great season 2 years ago. Every time he touched the ball for the first half of the season it was a goal. If he could get back to the below level of fitness and finishing, you're laughing at £5.5m:

    B) Is Pjones the best 5.5 or less defender for utd?

      I decided to skip CHE defence at the beginning and observe how it will be settled by Jose. And I'll probably go for one after 5-6 GWs or sth like this...

      Don't like Debuchy from the beginning either tbh. I'd rather go for Palace coverage in Ward.

          Considering the Southampton's opening schedule, it seems to be reasonable to take a punt. Pelle would be more preferable option, but has no budget to fit him.

          Who else can be utilized as a LB for pool?

            Well they've just signed that Manquillo chap, so they now have Johnson who can play both sides, as can Flanaghan. With them being in the champs league there will be rotations, so i'd say stay away from pool full backs till we they settle.

            Look at Erik Pieters for Stoke, they have a great opening set of games pal.

      Huth won't play pal, lose him for Pieters if you want Stoke backline or go Begovic for 5.0 over Kasper.

      Lovren is a class player don't get me wrong but i wouldn't look at pool players till gameweek 6.

      Rest looks good. Hopefully Bojan plays 65+ minutes every week!
