While off-field matters in Darras Hall, Northumberland last week may have made him one of the most (in)famous landlords in Britain, Kevin Nolan has subsequently shown he is fully focused on his football right now with a goal and two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points in last weekend’s 2-1 win at West Ham.

With four of their next six games at St James’ Park (SUN, ars, BLA, FUL, bol, CHE), Newcastle have a decent run of fixtures on the horizon, and although Chris Hughton’s side haven’t won in their last three home games, Nolan has scored three goals in four matches in front of the Geordie fans this season.

Nolan has managed 90 minutes in only two of Newcastle’s last four league games but, significantly, has found the net both times; aside from the West Ham match, his other goal was a penalty against Stoke. Interestingly, with the likes of Joey Barton on the pitch at the time, this suggests Nolan is the club’s number one penalty taker. With the first North East derby against Sunderland in two years up next this weekend at St James‘ Park, the possibility of a spot-kick might not be that too far away in the highly-charged atmosphere. With Fantasy investment in their squad inevitable with the aforementioned fixtures, this could be a factor worth considering.

Hughton’s favoured 4-4-1-1 formation allows Nolan the freedom to float behind Andy Carroll last season, and the system certainly favoured him, with 17 goals in the Championship. Even with a change in shape last weekend, as Newcastle playing 4-4-2 to accomodate Shola Ameobi alongside Carroll, Nolan still found the net. As the following two heat maps (the first in a 4-4-1-1 at home to Stoke, the second in last week’s game at West Ham) Nolan’s ability to get into forward positions doesn’t seem to be affected if Hughton chooses to play him in a centre midfield pairing.

So far this season, he has registered 9 shots on target, more than players such as Nicolas Anelka, Marouanne Chamakh and Darren Bent, and with 4 goals in the 8 games he‘s played in, the Newcastle captain is well on his way to topping his highest total of nine Premier League goals at previous club Bolton.

Nolan is currently part of 9.5% of FPL squads, less than the likes of Gareth Bale, Paul Scholes and Matthew Etherington, although with 40 pts, he has scored more than the trio, despite less game time. His last three games have seen Nolan return an average of 6 points per game, an indication that, in spite of his team’s recent inconsistencies, Nolan is still producing the goods.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

          Elmo is a must-have.

Get him now. But dropping Evra might not be so smart since he has decent fixtures and played the last game on the left wing.

I'd prefer Arteta over Cahill too. But it's not a priority.

I actually think Arshavin or Diaby, with Nasri moving either over to the left or down to CM, and Walcott taking the usual right. But I do think however that Walcott may start on the bench this weekend and start the game after that.

Ok, need a little help making up my mind 🙂

    My team this week:

    Hart
    A.Cole/Coleman/Terry
    Fabregas(C)/Van der Vaart/Nani/Dempsey
    Drogba/Odemwingie/Carroll

    subs:Robinson/Albrighton/Givet/Foley

Im thinking Albrighton > Gutierrez due to Albrightons red card, but its a 4 point hit, already did another 4 point hit to get Fabs in, so would be a 8 point hit this week...

I want to have the option of playing another midfielder since Odemwingie is injured.

Wondered what you guys thought…Considering transfering Mikel & Johnson for Bosingwa & Nasri

Johnson (poor I know) – Cole – Evra (foley & campbellsub)
Mikel (sub usually) – Bale – Van der Vaart – NZogbia – Nolan
    Tevez – Drogba – Carroll

It will involve a 4 point deduction and will be my first extra transfer…or should I wait until next game week so no deduction and save this weeks transfer?
    I play a 3-4-3

    Cheers…

He scored two tap ins. One was offside.
Played average apart from those, crossing was awful when if any sort of decent cross was delivered Arsenal could've scored.

              Nasri > Walcott anyday.

Is Fabs an absolute must have???? (i have arshavin for ARS coverage)
or is it wise to do a 4 pt hit transfer for

    Arshavin -> Fabs &
    Tevez - Adebayor/Chamakh

As Tevez is a doubt for weekend as well ???

    Any suggestions?

      Yeah he's a must-have.

      Drop Tevez to someone cheap.

      Elmander to be safe.
Hernandez if you're thinking short term.
Balotelli if you want to take a risk.

          Adebayor >.<

I just don't think he's all that good, I guess you could go for him, but as I said, it's a risk.

I'd play safe tbh and get Elmander.

He'll likely go up in price too, which means you'll make money or at least break even if you choose to transfer him out for the next form striker.

          Yes.

Home against Liverpool isn't so great, and Elmander hasn't actually been playing that well. He just scores goals. Carroll and Adam are much more likely to deliver.

In terms of Arsenal coverage, Arshavin just does not cut it.
      I'd rate them the following:
      1. Fabs, 2. Nasri, 3. Chamakh, 4. Walcott, 5. Arshavin

I've gone with Campbell. The man did well for them last season, has a more impressive goalscoring record than Varney, and (let's face it) is due for a goal. Not to mention that hardly anybody has him.

    Balotelli.

Thoughts? Now that he's fit, he'll most likely play. Lacking match fitness, but if Tevez is injured, he has a chance, and maybe on free kicks. I'll keep an eye open. If Tevez is out, and he starts picking up form, it could get really interesting!

Rival has Fabs, and our agreed rules say we can't have same players. I've probably got the better deal though, so I don't mind.

And cheers guys, because the money saves means Berb>Tevez and Morrison>VDV to make a 5 man midfield (shame its minus Fabs though!)

Very likely is overstating it. His returns could diminish with Fabs back. But an Arsenal mid as good as he is who's a near certain starter in great form and costs 7.4 says "buy me".

This is gonna sound ridiculous, but I think if you've 3 strikers you're happy to play every week, then you should get de jong. He's 4.3, so he'll free up plenty of cash, and will play every week and give you 1/2 points if you have a mare with injuries.
