The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Green Windmill is keeping 1.0 in the bank to address any issue that may arise from the first week’s games or for a rainy day. Is he right to keep this back? He is also open to suggestions to improve his bench and wonders whether Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard may be a risk given his reduced pre-season. Could his team mate Cesc Fabregas be a better choice?

      Shaw and Zab seems like big risks to take for that kind of cash, I'd spend the money on getting another big hitting midfielder.

      Zab- Rotation risk with Sagna
      Vlaar- Aston Villa arent know for keeping lots of clean sheets..
      Mirallas- could be a sub/be subbed after 60 or so minutes, think there are better options

        Replace Speroni with Foster. He costs less and rotates better with Krul.

        Evans sustained a knock in yesterday's match. Ferdinand carries injury risk. Wisdom may or may not play. Two of the three issues together become worrisome.

        Jovetic said he was fourth in the City striker picking order despite having an excellent pre-season.

        Rotating Sterling, Siggy and Bojan sounds alright.

    Soooooooooooo... not sure how far I've gotten, but this is what I so far. 3-4-3 all the way with Marney as bench fodder. Cheap defense and heavy attack, gone with what I reckon are safe picks for the first GWs.

        It's fairly boring and template, but that's usually what I go with. Thanks!

        I don't feel like there's any superobvious big defenders to go for. United have tons of injuries, Spurs (!?), Arsenal fixtures, Chelsea nobody is guaranteed a spot with Luis coming in. Meh.

      i like it, have the same front 3 myself.

      Starting with Clyne and Ward is tough GW1, not to mention I think Clyne is a bit over hyped on FFS. Cant fault this team besides that

        Yeah, Clyne was Jones until today. Spent the 0.5M on squeezing Siggy in. I'll shop around a bit for 4.5M or 5.0M defenders, but I feel like I have most of the interesting picks already.

      I like this, very similar to mine. The extra money ITB is useful and I like that you managed to make a cheap defence with only one 4m player, and none of your defenders double up with your GKs.

        only criticism I can give is that you're looking very light on defence. Maybe once Jovetic becomes rotation risk again, you can downgrade to a cheaper 3rd striker who is performing and put the money into a big defender with kind fixtures? Just food for thought!

      As a low-risk player, I don't love it.

      Yaya gives it a bit of that "where has the money gone" look :/ Did not like his CS performance.

      Not a huge fan of the whole cheap-third-striker movement either... hmm.

          Yeah, at that price he feels like an unnecessary risk. Plenty of guaranteed starters if you want to decrease your risk a bit. He's got potential though I'll give him that 😛

      Your defence is cheap but I don't see a problem with that, Chambers is only gonna start first few but best to take advantage of that and his cheap price! Your midfield is solid, would be tempted to upgrade Given to a playing keeper just to avoid taking a hit to do so in future weeks, e.g. Foster is perfect!

        What don't you like about them? All 3 should start GW1, Schurrle is the dodgy one, Naismith is just cheap and played in 30 of Everton's games last season, and Ireland is just because there's nobody else 🙁

      Your offence is obviously incredibly strong. Makes your midfield look a wee bit lightweight. I would normally try and have 3 core midfielders in a team. But I suppose the points should even out.

      Oh and Luis may or may not start. Unsure.

    What do you think about rotating defenders? Is it too expensive?

    Lets say I have:

    Terry-Lovren-Ward-Caulker-Wisdom Caulker and Ward will be rotated depending on a fixture.

    Or is it better to go with 3 at least 5.5 defenders and 4.0 4.0 as a backup?

    A) Chester, Bartley, Mutch and Ward-Prowse
    B) Caulker, Bartley, Mutch and Boyd
    C) Chester, Caulker, Ward-Prowse and Boyd

    My other defenders are Debuchy, Ward and Wisdom and only 1 of the midfielders would be starting. Ideally I'd have Chester, Caulker and Mutch but I can't find an extra 0.5 in my team. Could use some help with this decision.

    Rooney | Costa ( Bojan )

    1. Initially I had intended to rotate Siggy and Boj, but more recently I've started having doubts. Any other good Mid/Forw rotation combinations you can suggest?
    2. Anyone clearly better than Moore for £4,5 or less?

      Not sold on the whole Bojan experience, but if you're confident about him I think this is great. Defense is really strong without sacrificing your midfield, just.. Bojan. Hmm.

    -Bojan is a gamble (but got a feeling he can finally find his feet in England and good preseason)
    -Young not sure if he will play, but has had a good preseason for United.
    -Lovren I am not too sure, with the way Liverpool played last season. Replacement?
    -Caulker I reckon can form a strong partnership with Rio, and QPR got some nice fixtures to start with.

    The rest of the team I am happy with.

        The only change I can make to add a Chelsea player, would be taking out Rooney and placing Diego Costa.(But Uniteds fixtures are good, and know Rooney will fire)

    Guys Im just going to say my thoughts on Chelsea's back 4:
    The only player guaranteed for me is Cahill (I think he is one of the best CB's in the world).
    I also reckon Luis will start, they wouldn't pay that much for him to seat on the bench.

    The other 3 I have no idea though, but you would think Ivanovic will play so that leaves Terry and Azpi and out of those 2 I reckon Terry will play. He is getting on though and I reckon Jose will start him early on, then give him a rest before Europe then he will play in that.

    Just my thoughts

      Dont like Barkley or Herrera pick, with Barkley rotation risk and Herrera playing too deep along with contesting with Rooney.
      Also better options than Bruce, like Bartley, Hutton and WIsdom

    Thoughts on Evans > Chambers for the first couple of weeks and keeping the 1.0m for the transfer when things are a little clearer (Chelsea + United Defence)?
