Welcome to our annual attempt to pick the best and worst options in the Fantasy Premier League game and assess how the forthcoming Premier League season will shape up.

As usual many of  our last season predictions proved to be terrible.

Among the worst of our predictions was Mark’s assertion that Andreas Weimann would be the best differential and highest scoring budget forward in FPL and Paul’s belief that Roberto Soldado would finish the year as top Premier League goal scorer.

My forecast that Kolo Toure would be the best budget defender and Crystal Palace would be relegated proved equally embarrassing.

Applebonkers was also left with egg on his face by labelling Hull defender Curtis Davies as the worst signing of 2013/14, while Granville’s optimism that Iago Aspas would be the best differential in FPL was another of our top clangers.

There were some predictions we nailed, though. Evs correctly reckoned Southampton would overachieve, while Fulham would falter. Andy and Mark can also feel pleased for themselves for correctly naming Seamus Coleman as the best budget defender in FPL last season.

Hopefully we shall all do better with this series of predictions for the forthcoming Premier League campaign.

    1. Wanyama or El Ahmadi?
    2. Fletcher or Bojan?

    Team:
    Begovic (Krul)
Jones | Cahill | Caulker (Wisdom, PVA)
Silva | Ramsey | Eriksen | Coutinho (Wanyama)
    Rooney | Costa | Fletcher

Aside from the 2 questions above...I fear no Hazard or yaya...

    Thoughts appreciated.

How much of a punt is it to go with Wilson? Struggling to find too many options at £4.5m.

    Ward + Ferdinand
    Kelly + Caulker
    Kelly + Ferdinand + 0.5

I have enough funds for Caulker + Ward but I don't want to spend too much on my defence. Ward/Kelly won't be playing GW 1 for me if that makes a difference

I don't really think there is any difference between the first two. Wouldn't go for the last one on the basis that both players are fairly injury prone.

how are you resisting Bojan, it's been deafening on here! 😉

Looks ok to me but Marney/Diouf seems a weakness. Eriksen/sterling to siggy and upgrade one of them maybe? Would that make jovetic a possibility, or bring in snoddy as well?

Think Welbs is still nursing the hammy. Was hoping it'd be Januzaj but judging by LVG's comments he'll be on the bench. Sounds like it'll be Chica. 🙠He could be bold and put Mata up top with Kagawa slotting in behind I suppose. Would much rather that.

Yep (had a discussion on the last article). In summary, Palace should probably have seen this coming. Pulis's record in the transfer market is unbelievably bad. See, for example, this article:

      http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2013/may/21/tony-pulis-sacking-stoke

"Stoke's net spend on players during the past five seasons reach almost £80m. Only Chelsea and Manchester City invested more during the same period."

He was never going to be happy with a shoestring budget.

      - Don't get 2 keepers from the same team if one of them is more than 4.0M, either risk it for one of them or wait and see who starts.

      - Having Hazard and Fabregas I think is too much, drop Fabregas for Mutch/Snodgrass/Siggy and use that cash to upgrade that defense

      - Get Costa

Get Krul and 4.0 and swap Coloccini for a Sunderland defender.

Bojan will never play with that lineup - you might as well get someone even cheaper.

3 x 4.0m who might not start is incredibly risky.
