The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

A Chelsea defender is a must for Evs, should he downgrade Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas to Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and get a 6m Chelsea defender or downgrade Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez to his team mate Aaron Ramsey to give himself 6.5m to spend.

Recently Tottenham’s Ben Davies had been ousted from his team, as again uncertainty with Danny Rose continues. Which is the best route into the Tottenham defence? Stevan Jovetic is a short term punt. Who should he replace him with should he fail to cement a place in Manchester City’s starting XI?

        Palace's fixtures are lot more friendly though, and plenty of others will outscore Hendo in his team.

        Siggy...not convinced.

        Snodgrass may well do better than Puncheon I agree.

      1. Luis may not be played. Given Azpi and Cahill's reliability, Ivanovic's lethality and Terry's captaincy.

      2. Recommend Ramsey over Sanchez.

        Point 2 is my biggest concern, but I just do not see Ramsey doing as well as last season.

        Point 1...perhaps but if so he is easy enough to eject and my playing subs should cover it.

          Ramsey is only going to get better as a player (he's 23), has shown form and presence through the pre-seasons and had performed admirably last season despite playing in all sorts of positions. What more do you want man?! 🙂

          Besides, downgrading Ramsey should afford you that valuable nailed on Chelsea defender (if you're strapped for cash that is)

    My thinking.....

    Formation: 3-4-3

    Banking on stronger midfield and attack based on goals and assists + penalty, corner and free kick takers.

    Weak defence but hoping Chelsea and Stoke will keep clean sheets. The rest are punts.

    No keeper rotation based on Man Utd opening fixtures until GW8 or so....

    This is taking over my life and the season hasn't even started

      I agree with Andy. None of your defenders are guaranteed starters. Gerrard is an interesting choice but without Suarez, his penalty chances will be lessened. And as he is likely to play deeper, he is unlikely to score too many. Maybe look at Silva, Nasri or Navas?

        Thanks for the feedback. My Gerrard punt was strategic, my thinking was based on PK and FK duties and with two tough away games they'd have a chance of counter attacking football and S & S could take a tumble in the box....

        Have to agree on the defenders though.... I only need 3 though. Hoping the 3 I've picked will play or I need 1/2M to upgrade and unless I downgrade to the bojan bandwagon or reshuffle the midfield I just can't see a way of making it....

      I actually like the Gerrard pick. He's nailed on and got all the spot kicks.

      Giroud I dislike. Especially when you've already got good Arsenal coverage despite their less than stellar fixtures.

      Barkley's got strong opponents up ahead as well.

      And well, do something about that defence. Start by downgrading Giroud.

      A lot of very risky players.
      Pick just one goalkeeper, downgrade Baines and get rid of risks such as Lamela,Couthinho,Taylor fletcher and onouha

      I had baines originally but his fixtures really aren't the best. I ended up switching him to Ivanovic.

      Not convinced Sanchez is worth the extra money compared to Ramsey.

    Concerns for me:
    - Davis. Is he the best 5.0M midfielder out there? Want a mid who can fill in for Siggy in GW4, 6, and 8 to start with. The question is if I maybe should just downgrade him to a 4.5 to upgrade a 4.5 defender to a 5.0M?
    - I originally was on the thought of Costa flopping, until he showed himself in the last pre-season games. I kind of hate having him in my team 😀 Though he needs to stay, not keen on Hazard
    - Jovetic is a short term punt, will let him go if he fails to make the XI after a few games.

    Thoughts friends? 🙂

        I've played with that for sure. My only concern is having zero Man City coverage, while doubling up on Chelsea or Man U respectively. (Not that either are not worth the double...just combined with no City has me gun shy)

      You cant have Hazard, Mata, Eriksen, Rooney, Sturridge and costa...

      Get fabregas, drop Costa to Giroud, spend your 3m on a better GK & defense.

        Hazard is my lifeline if Davis doesn't turn out to be a regular starter. easy to downgrade but i want him for first 2 gw's. Flat track bully

      Looks good at a glance mate, although i completely agree with downgrading Eriksen to siggy and upgrading defence, Siggy could be a total steal and bargain, well worth it to upgrade defence, and prefer Begovic over Krul.

                  Yeah i see the Bojan attraction, but i don't think he'll do as well, or at least i hope. He's pushed out wide and doesn't have the greatest reputation at former clubs, then again same could be said for Diouf, i've just gone for the main leading man i guess, who will be fed for goals rather than banking on bojan to cut inside and score which is tougher to do.

    Yo man, haha yep, hopped on him, solid, fast, good in the air, Stokes fixtures are great, i say why not, good choice imo, only problem is if i'm to upgrade to an 8.5 who emerges on form, but for now i'm happy with him.

        i was thinking of dropping Rambo for Mata when the fixtures turn on Arsenal for a few weeks and then shipping young out...not sure on it yet

      Maybe a bit too much cash in defence for my liking. Go cheaper and bulk up the mid where others are pretty strong.

      That's some money in defence.
      At a max, I'd only have 3 of the big defenders. If you downgrade mandala & hangeland, you'll get 2m to spend on upgrading your midfield

      7/10 Replace your 2nd GK with Gilks/Elliott. Young is a punt. Sterling has difficult opening fixtures. Hazard could be replaced with Fabregas to save up on points for the defence.

      Good. Maybe downgrade Lovren and Fab to 4.5 or 5.0 and 8.0 and upgrade Bojan. He's new to PL and may take some time to adjust. But again, he may start producing straight from the start. That's your choice.
