A new beginning. On the eve of a new campaign, two grumpy middle-aged has-beens gather in a studio to recall the summer’s feast of football and look ahead to another Fantasy season, full of hope.

There’s no frills. No live video cast. No special guests. Just Granville and I, stripped back and almost unplugged.

Don’t let that put you off, though. Even with our limited powers we at least attempt to cut through the issues currently rattling around in the minds of Fantasy managers.

We assess the Old Trafford revolution, the world without Suarez and the merits of the three-man strike force. We slice through the current transfer trends and weigh up matters such as the Sigurdsson/Bojan rotation, Fagregas vs Hazard and the Chelsea back four conundrum. We also manage to warm up with a nice little argument about the Alexis Sanchez bandwagon – the traditional pre-season barney.

      All good except McAleny, you need a playing striker imo.
      A bit too much money in defence, each week i guess you bench at least one 5m defender?
      Ward/Clyne/Caulker to a 4.0 gives you Bojan.
      I would go further and do as above and Guzan to a 4.0. Gives you 1.5 for Mc Aleny to Austin/Jotevic

      Looks solid but i'd downgrade Ward to a 4.0 and get a 5.5 Striker in for McAleny. I'd rather have a uber cheap defender than an uber cheap Forward

      I think you could down 2 defenders (Ward & Clyne to a 4.5 and 4) and still have a good enough defence while freeing up 1.5 million to upgrade McAleny to someone of your choosing

    This is my first time owning Jordon Mutch I sat back and watched him grasp points in FPL while the rest of Cardiff barring Caulker flagged. I was impressed but never jumped on the wagon. What can I get from him? Will it be good or am I going to get a Sophomore slump? PS staring on the weekend.

      I think Marney is the best bet. However predicting the right budget mid correctly is almost impossible.

      Great defense if defenders are as great as they were at the start of last season could be solid. Mids seem standard so not bad. Strikers are good like the Fletcher pic instead of Bojan

        Cheers mate, I'm half anticipating and half hoping for defenders to start the way they did last season and if they don't I still feel like I have solid options in my backline that are capable or racking up clean sheets and attacking returns

        I'm expecting a similar rotation to that of last year and maybe with him getting even more minutes! His attacking stats are phenomenal and when he does play he's in a side that is pretty good at keeping cleansheets so I think i'll stick. Thanks for the response!

      I love cheering against Chelsea. Even last year, I had Azpilicueta, but most had two Chelsea defenders, so I was still hoping for Chelsea to concede.

    Can someone tell my why no one has considered Baird from WBA? he is OOP and is nailed (I think) and is 4.0! He has played all pre-season games. Including playing the full 90 in their final pre-season game. Surely he must be nailed!!!

        Does he have any real competition? Morrison is injured for a month or so and even if he was fit I doubt he will be fielded at CDM. Obviously Lescott etc, won't take his spot since he is playing in the midfield. Better then Wisdom imo.

        Yacob was benched against Porto and started against Port Vale. By looking at the two line ups, the team that played Porto looked alot stronger. Myhill also started the Port Vale game whereas Foster started the Porto game. This suggests that the team that played Port Vale was a second string team.

        Also FFS predicts Baird to start 😀

    Gone with Begovic / Krul.

    Really disagree with this idea of having Bego + non starter. Great thing about Stoke FPL-wise is their home form is so superior to their away so you can comfortably predict and bench Begovic in a lot of away matches without losing out on points.

      Generally agree. Get a cheap rotating pair allows for playing hunches, too. A defence is in or out of form, the opposition is missing a player, one gk gets injured. Having two playable keepers just makes things so much more flexible and interesting.

          I doubt that. Still a lot of quality in the squad. That is the life cycle of a bottom-half team, though. Buy players cheap, have a good academy and then lose all the players after the team has some success. It's not like this is their first time through something like this.

      It depends how well they play. Baird apparently to start at dm but I can't see that lasting tbh. Wisdom good enough to claim the rb spot for himself but again all depends on form

      Yep, agree with your estimates - double digit hauls in both goals & assists. I really like watching this guy in full flight.
      The knock on him seems to be his lack of defensive game? That is the reason given for Willian getting the nod over him last season (reportedly)

      Similar to Walcott's 14g13a from 2300 minutes in 2012/13, but Wally was almost the main man that time, while Schurrle is not.
