Gently does it. Granville and I ease ourselves into the season with another thirty-minute bite-size podcast, gradually building up our fitness before we go full tilt next month.

Yes, it’s just the pair of us again, cuddling up in our intimate studio to discuss the events of Gameweek one, whilst casting one eye on the fixtures and events to come this weekend.

We get through the usual array of regulars, with Granville explaining how a wedding and a bout of childcare threatened to ruin his campaign, just as it gets out of the blocks. We reach out to all those Siggy benchers, whilst picking the bones out United’s limp corpse following their opening day defeat. We then chat Fabregas vs Hazard, Ivanovic vs the rest (they’re going to run and run) and sing Ultimate’s praises for helping the previously unloved play their part in our Fantasy seasons.

Pick at the buffet via this link, or dash straight to the main course via the handy player below….

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Got GW1s main decision wrong by starting Young and benching Siggy.

GW2: Lovren or PvA? Young or Bojan?

    Thanks

Time to get rid of Austin with Vargas now signed to QPR?
Have 1.5 in the bank for an upgrade or could upgrade Albrighton...not many options jumping out at me though as I have Siggy.

Need a little help tonight guys.

My dads work asked him to join their fantasy leauge, a week late as well. He asked me if it would be worth it and me, the expert that I think I am, convinced him that he'd probably be about 60 points behind which is nothing over 37 weeks and that I'd soon help him to the top of his leauge.

But alas, it is the telegraph game they are playing

I've never played it myself and was wondering if there was any tips or if there is generally a different approach needed towards the game as opposed to the fpl. I haven't yet read through the rules and such but anything which any of you guys could help me with tonight would be a great help

One of the big things I've noticed is that midfielders and forwards score the same points for goals/assists so I'm thinking a front 3 is a must.. There's no subs so need to have regular starters. Doesn't look as much fun but will see what I can do for the old man.i don't like the pricing either. Similar to the skysports game.

Who would be your 4, always gonna start midfielders?

I'm thinking a front 3 of Rooney, costa and bony and if bony

3 up front does look essential then. Go for defenders from solid teams and don't go cheap because each goal conceded after 1 is a point off.
Front 3 looks decent but I would go for one cheaper forward so that you can bring in the more expensive mids who will score more.

Just playing around with the squad selection and would recommend something like this.

            Courtois
            PVA, Dummett, Cahill

            Rooney, Costa, 4m

    WBA 2-2 SUN report

As with QPR vs HULL, been seeing some off the none live televise games (in Portugal).
Saw the entire match between coaches Irvine and Poyet, so once again i will give it a go.

    West Brom Albion (4-4-1-1):
    Foster
    Wisdom - Dawson - Olsson - Pocognoli
    Berahino - Mulumbu - Gardner (Yacob 84') - Brunt (Baird 77')
    Dorrans (Sessegnon 84')
    Anichebe

    Sunderland (4-1-4-1):
    Mannone
    Brown (Altidore 81') - O'Shea - Roberge - PVA
    Cattermole
    A.Johnson (Bucley 73') - Larsson - Rodwell (Gómez 68') - Wickham
    Fletcher

    Tactics:
Irvine opt for Wisdom and Pocognoli in the full back places. Then a pair of midfields, Mulumbu and Gardner, in the middle of the park giving more freedom to Dorrans. In attack Berahino was fielded on the right, with Anichebe leading the line.
Poyet was coherent with the last couple of games from last season. In defense PVA played the role of Alonso as the most attacking full back, and Brown was shifted to right back role to accommodate, along O´Shea, the left foot of center back Roberge. In midfield Cattermole alone in front of the back four, allowing Larsson (interior right) and Rodwell (interior left) to play in front of him. Attacking wise, Fletcher played as the main striker and Wickham tried to do an impression of Borini aggressive type of game. Tried.
(mid way into 1st half AJ and Wickham exchange positions and maintained through 2nd half)

    1st half:
Sunderland, and Cattermole, took full advantage of their first shot on goal. A free-kick from Larsson to the far post, Brown puts in the heart of the area, someone clears it off to the edge, and you know the rest… 2 touches, boom! Great finish.
Then WBA tried to fight back, allowing Pocognoli to fire a couple of shots from considerable distance. Both strong, both wide.
Their best chance came around the half hour mark, Anichebe and Berahino combining and the later blasting a shot nearly on goal.
Sunderland responded almost instantly. Another Larsson's free-kick (this one from the left hand side), and Roberge headers it a whisker wide. Great chance also.
WBA bomb again. Brunt's shot was near. Then it was Gardner with a great shot on target (assisted by Berahino), good save from Vito. It was the fourth shot (in five) from outside the box. Trend?
Almost on the final moments Roberge commits a penalty on Anichebe. A soft one. Berahino (ahead of Brunt and Gardner) took it perfectly.

    2nd half:
Sunderland starts strong once again. Left corner from Larsson (once more) and Wisdom mistake in man marking gives license to a great opportunity for Wickham. At the far post, he shots wide from close range.
WBA response its quick. Great run from Dorrans, good lay to Anichebe who rolls to his right shooting wide from a great angle. Tipical from the powerful guy. New #10 by the way!
Sunderland turn once more. Good play between Larsson and AJ assisting Wickham who's shot its deflected wide. Corner from Larsson (left side) flick at 1st post from Brown and Roberge miss's at far post. Another corner, first from the right side, AJ takes it short to Larsson who slips to Cattermole (on a clearly well studied step-piece), who cross's to another header of Brown to the far post where Fletcher converts. Off-side. Correct decision, but nice team play.
Gómez in, AJ briefly returns to the right hand side and Wickham to the opposite flank
Buckley in for AJ….and 2-1 to WBA.
Dorrans shot from outside, good save from Foster…but Gardner its aware and puts a spectacular cross from the left (with his left foot) to the running Berahino. PVA its caught sleeping and the youngster grabs his second with a volley/tap in. Major error from the dutch rookie.
Baird in for Brunt, its time to secure the lead. Dorrans to the left and Gardner int the hole.
Altidore in for Brown. No right back for SUN, all out attack.
Sessegnon and Yacob for Gardner and Dorrans. Sess to the left and Mulumbu in front of Yacob and Baird…2-2.
This time its PVA who does all the work, one-two with Gomez, Berahino looses his man and PVA goes to line to find with a neat pass the late run from Larsson.
Time was coming to an end. Poyet find a defensive balance, Buckley and Altidore occupying the right corridor. A few crosses by WBA but nothing scary.

    Notes:
Larsson seems instrumental, set-pieces hogger, can score also from open play and played the full game.
PVA (even with that mistake in the 2nd goal of Berahino) looked very attacking and precise on his delivery from the flank. Good reaction after the error.
Berahino looked in fine form. Prefered spot-kick taker and sharp on his shooting. Very lively thru out the entire game.
Gardner, real surprise here. Hard worker and with a strong and accurate shot from outside. Great assist. Looked like a mini-Rambo.
Pocognoli has shots in his locker. A couple of crosses with good weight and on set-pieces after Brunt's exit. To monitor.

Both teams look very attacking. Let's see if they maintain this positive approach towards the next couple of fixtures.

Fantasy-wise Larsson could be a great option this season because he's relatively cheap and would be good to rotate with a Newcastle mid like Colback

i Seriously think that the purchase of Balotelli is a bad omen for Sterling owners, he will get pushed out wide and wont be as central as against Southampton and will no pick up points as frequently as perhaps originally perceived, from his position in the opening game of the season.

in real footy, as far as I remember, it was quite successful during the World Cup as the teams playing with 5 at the back had no loss in about 15 encounters in the group stages against the teams playing with 4 defenders.

How Liverpool will lineup with Balotelli probably:

      Balotelli Sturridge
      Sterling
      Coutinho Gerrard Henderson
Moreno Skrtel Lovren Johnson (BR won't drop him!)
      Mignolet

Don't think he'll start this weekend. Paperwork won't be done in time. I expect a 433.

Allen is a nothing player. Coutinho was being eased in, he his the best player in our team.
To be honest, I have not seen a player like him outside of the peak Barcelona team. I am in awe of him.
I predict he will play all 38 GW's bar injuries.

he's been in and out big time. the only FPL form I can remember was the few games after the away win at St Mary's last year but that didn't last for more than 4-5 gameweeks. my point is that he'll won't be playing full 90 minutes even if he establishes as a regular starter in order to be a fantasy prospect and in general Spurs' forwards have been a let down

With Townsend possibly on the way out it could work. Remy can play as a striker and a left sided forward. Would be a good signing for Spurs but I do think he will play in a wide position.

I favour the 343. Although at the moment a 352 is probably best. Its only a matter of time though till we all want 3 strikers and there will be shift towards the standard 343 set tup, it happens every year.

The important thing is to try and be flexible. Its not always easy to switch between the two formations so choosing the best one for a particular period of time is worthwhile. At the moment the 352 is probably the best formation. In a couple of weeks I'd expect it to shift to the norm.

would I be right in thinking that Siggurdson is the only player to have risen 0.2 so far this season? And therefor my minileague opponent must have bought him as he has made 1 transfer and that is how much his price has risen. I wish I had noticed how much spare cash he had last week. I am assuming Mutch to Siggy. Hmm I think he has learned a bit this year he never used to do early transfers.

Maybe a crazy think to consider but tempted to bring in Schurrle as he is available in our draft league... debate is on whether to replace Nasri or Coutinho with him ?

When Schurrle plays his return is good & Coutinho appears to promise much & score low. Nasri no guarantee on starting due to rotations at City ....

          How do you figure?

          Last season:
Hazard had 2890 minutes and 202 points and now costs 10m.
Schurrle had 1328 minutes and 103 points and now costs 7.5m.

Got more than half as many points in less than half as much time.

First rule of FPL is that your player must play.

If nailed on he would be one of the best prospects in the game

my thoughts , maybe the great one intends to play him more after blooding him in last year ... If I drop for Coutinho, allows me to pick up Balotelli as my 3rd LFC.

I was amazed as last season progressed that the Mou didn't play him instead of Torres more. Great pace, good on the ball and a really good finisher

If he played he would be an excellent fantasy player. A bit like Dzeko over the last few years, so enticing but serious doubts whether he starts or not

of course how nailed they are is something that comes into question which is why that's literally the only thing keeping everyone from getting him over Hazard/Cesc

Would be excellent if nailed on.
