ENTRY HAS NOW CLOSED AND THE DRAW HAS BEEN MADE

On Wednesday night the doors were kicked open. After days of speculation, frustration and some unlikely conspiracies, the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) launched a new site, new rules and a new start to our Fantasy seasons.

The player list tinkering is now taking place in earnest as the ardent Fantasy Managers look to steal a march on the casual brigade. Leagues are already in place – sign-up’s underway.

The “classic” Fantasy Football Scout League is already available via this code (code: 490-626). Now, though it’s time to take on the behemoth that is now our ten (the impending Reserve League included) Head to Head leagues…

Those of you that were involved in our Head to Head leagues last year should, all being well, have already received the code to your new division for next season (if not, details follow later on how to rectify this – there are deadlines so don’t delay) not long after the game went live, so now it’s down to enticing new entrants.

Last year we ran seven (twenty man) Head to Head leagues. This season we are going to add another two onto the pile leaving us with nine of these in total as we continue to grow and grow – this opens up 38 more places (alongside 6 spaces already confirmed to be filled in Head to Head 7) for our community to snap up. If you want to try and squeeze into FFS H2H 8 (with Fantasy Football Scout business brain Chris, or “elfozzie” to you) or FFS H2H 9 (with myself, sorry folks!) be sure to follow the upcoming instructions…

Please email me at andy@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk with the heading “FFS Head to Head: New Entry” with these very specific details as entry:

  1. Fantasy Football Scout User Name (nickname used to post comments with)
  2. Full name
  3. Link to your Fantasy Premier League team or ID number

Make sure you provide the correct link. This can be found by clicking ‘History’ under your kit on your team page. It should be of the form ‘http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/X/history/’ (where X is your unique 1 to 7 digit team ID number – for example, mine is 89). N.b. links are represented differently than in past years so don’t get caught out.

If you fail to provide all of these details or enter by the closing date below, then your entry will become invalid so make sure to check everything is correct.

Deadlines are going to be tighter this year, so you’ll need to be quick as entry for these closes just a couple of weeks away at midnight (GMT) on Friday July 29 – a week today. All valid entries will then be put into a (hypothetical) pot, with 44 drawn at random and assigned to a league based on their final ranking from last season.

If, by the time deadline for entry closes, there are also any unclaimed spots in the pre-determined seven Head to Head leagues above, then places will also be up for grabs and added into the mix for new applicants to potentially sneak their way in; a “golden ticket” up the newly formed league structure all the way to FFS H2H 1 could also be on the cards if you’re lucky and did well enough last season.

This is where the qualifiers for the aforementioned seven leagues get their instructions if they need them. If you haven’t yet received an email with your new league code then please get in touch with me using exactly the same instructions as for new applicants but header your email with “FFS Head to Head: League Code” instead, and ask for your code. All of those who qualified by finishing in the top 28 places in the Reserve League last year, for example, will need to email me as I don’t have any of your contact details on record – the onus is upon you to claim what is yours in the next week. Be fast to make sure you don’t miss out on what you earned last year.

Finally, for those already qualified, you’ll also need to make sure your team is registered under the same email as last season as I will be checking the 2010/11 scores to verify your entries.

The process of promotion and relegation from these leagues are perhaps best left to be show in image form one more time so as my garble doesn’t confuse anyone. If you have any queries then don’t hesitate to comment (I’ll do my best to respond quickly), email (be aware I expect to be inundated with these) or tweet (perhaps most likely for me to see) in my direction and I’ll do my best to get back to you. The picture representation once again is…

There you go – that’s more than enough to take in for now. Don’t forget to get your emails in before the H2H league deadline – next Friday.

    Quick question about tactics...

To what extent do you go to to avoid having midfielders/forwards playing against your goalkeepers/defenders? Would you play a defender who has a tricky away match and bench a defender who is at home if he's playing against one of your strikers?

Actually this can be largely ignored mainly because you really shouldnt look at a week at a time, more like blocks of say 5 weeks for example, in which case some of your players are bound to play each other, but it doesnt really matter.

Depends on the players and team tbh but picking both almost means you will get some points the only time this doesn't happen is when your defender conceeds but your stricker midfield player was not involved in the goal

I would avoid it if possible. I can see the argument of winning either way, but to me that's the equivalent of playing for a draw, you're not really maximising your chances of scoring big.

I'd take each one on a case-by-case basis though. I mean, it depends how 'tricky' this away match is - if your pretty sure they're gonna let in 4 or 5, then your better bet is probably still to go with the guy who's playing at home against one of your strikers.

      How's that for fence-sitting?

i think it doesn't matter, importantly those regular starting 11 you already plan for getting the pts on GW basis and should have reliable rotate players on bench IF so called one/two regular starting unavailable in that match due to injuries or suspension lol

    Drogba, Tores, or neither?

I'm thinking that AVB is only going to be playing one of these most of the time, so which are you going for? Or; are you playing it safe and not going for either?

At this moment in time, I won't be touching either of them and preferring midfield and possibly Alex/Luiz if I think they'll be starting.

I'm going for neither at first...first couple of games could be an indicator...but since part of bonus is dependent on minutes I can see a lot of Torres coming on for Drog and vice versa.

A Cole is probably the safest option for pts, can assist and get clean sheets.

Lampard is safe, but pricer. Malouda could be a bonus darling, but yesterday he was played as a midfield three, rather than on the wing up front. That may limit him.

In conclusion a wise man would pick A cole and Malouda/Lamps.

A brave man would go for either Drog and Torres.

I did notice this morning, watching SSN whilst eating my wheatabix, there was an interview with Villas-Boas as Chelsea were linked with some striker and he said how versatile his striking options currently are. Mentioning Drogba, Torres, Anelka, Sturridge & Kalou. There was no mention of Malouda when referring to the strikers. Made me think he'll be in the middle three more often than the front three.

Given and Kompany seem to be standard right now. Still undecided on Lamps. Malouda would be my preference but like last year though, surely the extra 1 or 2 million is worth the security of him starting every match over the likes of Torres, Drogba and now Malouda? Hmmmm.

Lamps will be a sure starter under AVB? Oui?

Can somebody please explain the Sessegnon thing to me? I've seen words like "a must" and a "no brainer" in close proximity to his name.

He scored a few goals at the end of last season when Sunderland had no strikers, Sunderland were one of the lowest scoring teams in the league last season, their fixtures are reasonable but not amazing, ok he's likely to be the most foward of a midfield 5 but is that really "OOP"? Is he on set pieces? 6.5 million a lot - me no getty.

I never get too excited by preseason, a guy sometimes playing "in the hole" for a team who don't score very many, who isn't on set pieces at 6.5 doesn't compute to me.

I'm considering him....good chance of bonus and Steve bruce's sides do often start well. I think he must have a good pre season routine. Sunderland are a different team to last year. Don't look at end of season sunderland as an indicator of start of season sunderland. Bruce's teams always flag at the end...did with Wigan and have done with Sunderland.

good chance Sessegnon will also take penalties if Gyan is not on the pitch.

Would people be kind enough to pick one Fulham attacker and one Newcastle attacker from this list. Can't decide who to go with:

            Thanks chaps.

Zamora and Johnson seem to be matching each other pre-season, but Johnson has a horrid record in the prem since he left Palace, so I'm starting to think he may fade, and Duff doesn't seem like great value: Zamora looking good then.

I'm really undecided on the Newcastle boys, hopefully pre-season will help, but its nice to see a general concensus for Barton.

I think Johnson will fade/not start much. Duff seems good value to me, cheaper than Zamora, currently matching his form and is on some set pieces and will likely to get BPS with the new EA stats too. Difficult to predict though, they could all come good.

alotof fulham, i know the fixtures are mostly kind out of the gate, i know they are looking good in preseason, and i love dempsey, but id probably spend that cash elsewhere as long as zamora is fit. i think im spending cole money on baines myself, but i may change my mind. otherwise solid. i was high on albrighton coming in, but worries about fantasy returns if zogs comes to villa.

he wouldnt take his role but hes gonna get the BPs and creating more than Alby would IMO. I think if zogs wasnt there alby would be a good bet to crack 100+ points this year, but zogbia there, id scale that prediction back to 80ish.

        Certainly 😀

And Norwich finished second in the Championship. So, I think it would make sense to include a Norwich player than a Swan (Read : Sinclair), who finished fifth(?) in the league.

Added to that, Norwich have two consecutive home games and are the more attacking side while Swansea are more defensive.

Wes Brown has never been a guaranteed starter.

Didn't the article on him say in his 13 seasons at United he only made 20 league appearances in one. This wasn't just down to being low on the pecking order, before Vidic arrived he would have been amonst the first choices. Instead it was always with the Silvestre.

Anyone spotted a cheap defensive rotator with Sunderland? Samba would work but too expensive to rotate - I can't see anyone in the 4.5ish bracket, might have to do it with 2 4.0ers.

Gonna be pretty p*ssed off if I don't get back this 1.5 that has mysteriously disappeared from my team.

Has there been others that have had this happen to them? Have you had a response from the FPL towers yet?

Basically, went to go adjust my team and saw that I only had 99.5m in the bank with 0.0 left over. Took everyone out of the transfers page and the total said 99.5 as well. So I auto completed my team again and it took away another 1m.

        So I'm stuck with a 98.5m squad.

I could start a new team up but then I lose all my history....

Both Man U and Spurs look to have pretty meagre starts to me,I don't expect goal fests for either first nine or ten games.

Anyone got a clue on the Sunderland back 4 this year? Bramble would be good at 4.5 if we knew he'd be a regular starter.

      My guess would be:

      Brown
      O Shea
      Bramble
      Bardsley

Not sure who plays at CB between Brown and O'Shea though ... Bramble was Sunderlands best CB last year so he'll start

    Please RMT:

    Given, Kenny

A Cole, Hughes, Kompany, Baines, £5m defender (maybe Enrique if he moves)

    Albrighton, Taarabt, Malouda, N'zog, Sinclair

    Ba, Holt, Carroll

I'm not sure I want RVP till GW4, £12 million is a lot to have invested in those fixtures.

Long time no post; Hope all you old hats are well, and the new guys are enjoying this amazing site.

I was wondering what people's views were on Arshavin? At the start to last season the talk was around him being a "must have" -- then the season happened and the rest we know. However at a much lower prices (9.0) and if Cesc leaves, I can see him becoming more vital to the team.

I don't really want to pony up the money for RVP to only have him trip on some grass and break his leg a week or two later. What do you feel about Arshavin acting as a cheaper buy into the Arsenal attack?

Replace every word where you said Arshavin with Gervinho and my answer improves to maybe...

Ok first go (assuming Zog goes to Villa and Tevez leaves Man City):

    Given Kenny

    Cole Kompany Bramble Simpson 4.0

    Malouda Yaya Zog Moses Buzz

    RVP Bent Zamora

I may well have Moses for the first 3, if Nzog goes (likely). he would be a decent shout vs NOR,swa,QPR. A swap to Tchoyi would then be possible as WBA's fixtures are decent, assuming he's getting the starts obviously.
