Nacer Chadli bags a brace while Emmanuel Adebayor serves up a goal and assist as Spurs hammer QPR at the Lane. Juan Mata nets for United and Seb Larsson is in the points again for Sunderland, while Bojan Krkic is benched and James Chester sees red as Stoke grab a point at 10-man Hull.

Eriksen Blanks in Spurs Rout
Spurs continued their early-season form with a 4-0 home demolition of QPR yesterday. A double from Nacer Chadli, allied with a pair of assists from Erik Lamela underlines the growing number of midfield options under Mauricio Pochettino, although Christian Eriksen, with over 12% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership, again failed to get amongst the points. Up front, Emmanuel Adebayor continues to get the nod for league matches and a goal and assist from the Togo international suggests he could yet be the standout candidate in the mid-price forwards bracket.

Dier Does it Again
With Kyle Walker still sidelined and Kyle Naughton suspended, the summer signing was shifted to right-back to accommodate Jan Vertonghen at the heart of the Spurs defence yesterday. Dier replicated his goal-scoring exploits of Gameweek 1 by netting once again, and while there’s no doubt the competition for places is heating up at the back, his threat in the box is making it very difficult for Pochettino to leave him out right now. Despite a home encounter with Liverpool next weekend, the bandwagon looks set to continue over the next seven days.

Austin Sidelined with Hamstring Problem
Charlie Austin’s hamstring injury absence allowed Matt Philips to partner Loic Remy up front for the R’s yesterday. Harry Redknapp’s side now have home fixtures against Sunderland and Stoke on either side of a trip to United but with their form has been far from convincing. Austin owners may be tempted by a trade to Steven Naismith – priced at 5.1 to the QPR man’s 6.0, the Scot has picked up a goal and maximum bonus in each of his two appearances thus far and looks poised for continued pitch time – at least until Everton enter the market for new attacking options.

Mata Opens His Account
Sold by over 94,000 FPL managers last week after an opening day blank, the Spaniard picked up the points in United’s 1-1 draw at Sunderland. While Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie toiled up top in a disappointing display by the visitors, Mata’s strike, allied with the maximum bonus points, underlined his potential in the role in “the hole” behind the front two. In spite of an uninspiring display from United, Rooney and Mata owners will likely be persuaded to hold as Louis van Gaal’s side now square up to each of the promoted sides in the next three Gameweeks. Those considering Van Persie may choose to monitor for now, with the Dutchman looking some way short of full sharpness – he failed to register a single attempt on goal before being replaced midway through the second period.

Larsson On the Radar
The Swede provided the equaliser for Jack Rodwell’s strike to maintain his impressive early-season form yesterday. Larsson grabbed a goal and couple of bonus points in last week’s draw at West Brom and has now climbed to fourth in the FPL midfield standings on 14 points. Despite a very kind 5.5 price tag, the Black Cats man currently sits in just 3% of sides right now, but with QPR, Burnley, Swansea and Stoke in the next five, he could be set for further investment.

Chester Sees Red in Tigers Stalemate
Drafted in by almost 130,000 FPL managers on the back of a 15-point return in Gameweek 1, the Hull centre-half is set to miss next week’s trip to Villa. Chester lasted just 13 minutes before being dismissed for a professional foul but, despite playing most of the match with 10 men, the hosts still managed to pick up a draw against Stoke after Nikica Jelavic opened the scoring in a 1-1 draw. Tom Ince retained his spot alongside the Croatian up front although he was forced to drop back into midfield once Chester was dismissed and was eventually replaced on 55 minutes as the Tigers looked to shore things up further. With West Ham, Newcastle and Palace also still to follow in the next five, Ince still remains a viable budget midfield option if Steve Bruce fails to secure new faces before the transfer window closes.

Bojan Benched for Potters
The Spaniard dropped to the bench for Stoke’s first away trip of the season. Owned by over 16% of FPL managers, Bojan was introduced just before the break as Mark Hughes attempted to take advantage of the 10-man Tigers but he failed to make an impact as the Potters struggled to break down the hosts’ rearguard. With Naismith looking increasingly tempting as an alternative, Bojan already looks on borrowed time for a number of Fantasy managers – with a trip to Man City up next, plenty look poised to part company over the next few days.

Could do with freeing up some cash.

Looking into letting PVA go, but for 4.0 any better options? I have hutton and Wisdom and dont want a Newcastle defender as I have Krul as one of my keepers.

      Any idea people?

        qpr, TOT, bur, SWA, STO

Could well be a clean sheet or two amongst those.

United will change formation, I'm convinced. Maybe only for certain matches, but it will happen.

Van Gaal's preferred formation isn't 3-5-2 as people seem to think, he only uses this to fit the players that he has at his disposal. He intended on playing 4-3-3 with the Netherlands at the World Cup, but Strootman getting injured forced him to change plans. It's the same at Utd right now, no midfield lynchpin to control the centre of the park and no pace in the front 3 to break away or hurt teams.

With di Maria coming in, United will be able to break quickly and hurt teams with pace whilst attacking. Also the easiest way to fit Mata/di Maria/Rooney/RvP in. Something like this, with the front 3 interchanging:

      ----------de Gea--------
      -----Rafael-Evans-Jones-Shaw----
      ------Herrera-Carrick/Blind-----
      ----------Mata-----
      ----Di Maria-Rooney----
      ----------RvP-------

Not so sure. Martinez plays this formation with Barry/McCarthy 'filling' in and distributing from the back. Can work, but Rafael will have to up his game - not the biggest Carrick fan either.

Blind may well take Carrick's role from him in time, but I know that LvG rates Carrick. He was pretty upset when he got injured before the start of the tour.

Agree on Rafael. It's in there somewhere, he was excellent in Ferguson's last season.

So someone that you've claimed can't play in that role, not only has but has won a Champions League and Premiership's doing it. Excellent. It's not a left wing position, it's as one of the forwards in a 4-3-3 where they constantly interchange.

              Great conversation, pal.

I don't think so, I think di Maria provides a lot more balance if anything. Carrick/Herrera will be able to hold and let the rest play.

He's a lot more than some luxury winger, he chases back, harries, pressurises people then uses the ball going forward. Might even see him in the position I've outlined Mata in above. That's where he spent most of last season for Real as Bale took his position on the wing.

you cannot have mata di maria rooney and rvp in the same team...one of them has to get the chop...herrera and carrick is not a strong enough central midfield either, exposing that suspect defence...

              As outlined above.

Same way you could get say Ronaldo-Tevez-Rooney-Scholes in a team. With interchanging and one of them taking a slightly defensive role.

In fairness it's not far off the Arsenal template, also if that attitude was taken you'd never see the like of Barcelona and to a lesser extent Real madrid play & succeed over the last decade. It's more to do with the quality and ability of the player. That'd where it ultimately fails with the likes of Carrick, Arteta & co.

Only put in say Carrick because no one knows who United will try to sign in the midfield in the next week or so.

This in short is why you'll stuggle to name a succesful English manager over the last 20 years, the inability to adapt or think out the box. Stuck on 4-4-2 or having a ball winner (ltd ability usually) in the middle of the park, centre halves have to be 6foot plus, love the speedy winger who can't cross for sheet, etc....

                *incoming*

Agree with how Di Maria will be used but Rooney will do all the graft at the front. Di Maria has a great engine but can waste opportunities. Only going by the world cup. If he played like champions league final all the time he might be worth the money.

I like that formation. Di Maria and Rooney as inside forwards (not wingers). Its a 433 in the most traditional sense and with Shaw and Rafael bombing forward they will provide the width on the flanks.

          Precisely.

Someone with a bit of sense, they're inside forwards not wingers. I think this formation could work, he's already trying to give Mata some responsibility but he needs pace and runners for it to work (like di Maria, Rafael, Shaw).

That would leave them really exposed centrally as Mata is not much of a midfield enforcer. However, you may well be right.

If I were LFG I would play 4-2-3-1 and sign a top right back as Rafael is injured far too often. This is the only way you can fit Rooney, RVP, Di Maria and Mata into the team but probably best selling RVP or Rooney and getting someone to play on the right of that 3 with either Rooney/RVP up front.

I think Mata would have to track a runner from deep if he was to play as the forward player of that midfield 3 (tough for him to do and be disciplined, I know).

Yeah, I agree. United are strong up front but that's the only place at the minute really. Either way I think Van Gaal will be decisive when he gets a chance to see how the team develops in a new system with new players.

      DDG
      Clyne - Collocini - Caulker
      Fabregas - Ramsey - Mata - Siggy
      Rooney - Costa - Dzeko

      Gilks - PvA - Albrighton - Chester

with 2 FTs in my pocket, I have no idea whether I should change anything tbh.
The only thing which came my mind and was adviced to me couple of times here, is to drop DDG. But I am not entirely convinced.

      So should I:

      A. DDG ➡ Lloris
      B. DDG ➡ Forster and double up a Soton defence with Clyne
      C. DDG ➡ Krul and double up a Newcastle defence with Collocini
      D. keep DDG
      E. sth else

      ??

Yeah, dropping a GK who plays Burnely next week to the one that plays vs L'pool just doesn't look that great..

I may end up virtually 'loosing' a FT this week then. Never thought that would happen 😯

There's been discussion on Di Maria's position. My 2 cents.

-He played the right of a central midfield in a 4-3-3 most of last season for Madrid.
      - LVG likes flexible systems and players
      - Mata Rooney and RVP together make United too static
      - United lack a pacy ball carrier in midfield
      - Option 1 - Di Maria will play on the right of a 4-3-3 (the middle 3, not the forward 3) carrying the ball and driving through midfield
      - Option 2 - Di Maria will play on the right of a conventional 4-4-2
      - Option 3 - Di Maria will play on the right of the front 3 in a 4-3-3 (probably against the bigger teams)
      - Option 4 - Di Maria will play as a forward ala Robben in a 3-5-2
      - Option 5 which is least likely in my opinion is Di Maria will be used as a RWB

There are 2 big problems with Utd. Lack of pace. And no creativity/driving ability in midfield. Di Maria addresses both to an extent.

Yeah United can be sure he's going to be a strong player. That certainty is invaluable.

I first read 'no creativity/diving ability in midfield'.
That just wouldn't have made any sense!

I agree with that. He will get game time in the midfield 3 and also game time as part of a front 3.

he is at his best in option 1, but you cant have mata rvp and rooney as the front three in that case...

        So, in short...

Do we sell Rooney or Mata?

Or both and get di Maria?

        😕

Btw, you have been on here so many times today you can just as well play FPL.

Surely LvG won't drop Mata? This makes zero sense. We have to find a way to fit them all in.

Dropping is one thing, not playing him in the hole is another.

            I have no idea.

But can United play 4 at the back. They have no right back (Rafael/Valencia?) and no left back (Young?).

Rojo will surely be used as CB with Evans and Smalling out and Shaw is injured.

I don't know what's going on. That's with 31 years experience of watching Utd!

Bottom line is we need to play two of Rooney/RVP/Mata, not all three, and inject some pace around them.

Evans, Smalling, Jones are only ever two minutes away from their next injury, as I posted in pre-season when talking of Utd defence options. I would rather spend £35m on Hummels than another big money attacking player at present. Then switch back to four at the back, with Hummels +1, Shaw and Rafa when fit. Take it from there...

Tell me what's wrong with this?!

        DDG
        Rafa/Jones Hummels Evans Shaw
        Valenica Herrera Carrick Januzaj
        Mata
        RVP/Rooney

Surely going to win you more than you lose for starters...

Wish I had more time to think

Austin is dropping tonight so I need to get rid as TV is far more crucial at this point

No cash in the bank but 2 FTs

      a) Austin to Naismith and play Clyne in a 4-4-2

      b) DDG to Krul and Austin to a 7.0 or less striker

      c) Caulker to a 4,5 and Austin to a 6.5

      d) Hazard to Fab or Mata to Lamela and Austin to a 7.0 striker

don't much fancy him this week tbh but I do like a back 4 this week

Clyne (whm) Caulker (SUN) Terry (eve) Naylor (WBA)

That being said, Chelsea have only kept 2 CS in their last 10 away games

        A) with Ideye instead of Naismith?

Ideye seems a bit unproven, haven't seen much of him

Use the comparison tool. Ideye and Naismith GW 2 only, and then compare both of them again for GW 1 + 2. Factor in Ideye's gametime in both games. (0mins+about 30?)

Naismith at 5.1 is an awkward price. Leaves me with 0.4 left in the bank. Meaning I can only afford a small number of players with my next transfer.

Should I go ahead and get Naismith or go for a player who has not risen/fallen yet?

Too late. Chelsea next up. They'll be usual stubborn selves at Goodison, can't see much action in that game for Naismith. Also some tough away matches. Everton still best up GW8 onward.

I'd like to get some Southampton defensive cover for their fixtures. Which would be better?

      A) Begovic to Forster

      B) Debuchy to Bertrand

Varela at west Brom is a nice signing for Irvine. Really direct, attacking player. Hopefully he'll be classed as a midfielder.
