Gameweek 2

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Played my WC, any criticisms of the new team appreciated:

    Krul / Mannone
    Ivanovic / Dier / Van Aanholt / Wisdom / Hutton
    Fabregas / Ramsey / Sterling / Eriksen / Siggy
    Costa / Rooney /. Vaz Te

    Nothing left in the bank, going to be playing 3-5-2 the majority of weeks.

    I'm especially not sure on the defence. Is Dier a better shout than Kaboul and is Ivan worth it over the other Chelsea defenders? Also, I could always bring in Guzan as a goalkeeper and McShane/Bruce/Dummett/Taylor to defence.

        Because he's been playing well as always and been unlucky to not get anything from his games - I was considering Lamela too though! What do you think?

        Only because he's 4.5 - I have no intention of playing him! The way I see it I can't accommodate three good strikers if I'm going to keep that midfield. Who in midfield would you downgrade?

          It has set my team up well in the long haul. Can save a transfer this week with the comfort of owning Aguero. 54 points isn't too bad, but it should have been better. If I had played Wisdom over Chester it would have been 64 but sadly it isn't.

          I wouldn't change much with my team if I had the chance to.

              Cheers. There are some similar ones but I have all my money tied up in attack which I feel is the way to go. My team is now impossible to get due to all the rises and I am confident it will do well over the coming weeks.

              Essentially, at the start of the season, we all have similar teams bar a few players. The template as a whole did well this week, but players like Jovetic that I didn't have harmed me.

    Pelle on Jovetic:

    At the moment, it is difficult to say who is the best striking partner for him because Alvaro Negredo is injured and Kun Aguero is not yet 100% but he can play with anyone.

        I think the main thing to take is that he can play alongside Aguero, as nobody was sure, as that hadn't been seen last season. So it's not definitely a case of 1 of Dzeko/Negredo with 1 of Aguero/Jovetic

        1. Nabs Kebabs
          • 14 Years

          what i take from this is that kun/jov will be the main first choice partnership when all are fit.

          dzeko/neg are average anyway imo

    i really think accounting to chris needs to pipe down with the united bashing or at the very least find a club of his own to support

    the fact a 7th place finish is referred to by urself and many others as the worst possible thing says it all..

    let me start by saying that when fergie left no one could possibly expected united to remain at the top of the league with david moyes in charge here was a guy who had won nothing as a manager and inherited a very average quad in parts and alot a few past their best...

    we now have a manager in place who has won league titles in 3 different countries a champions league and took a very average dutch team all the way to the semi finals of a world cup.. fair to say he's capable

    dropping out of the european places last year was admittedly not expected by any united fan but it happened.. liverpool dropped out of europe last year and finished 2nd

    and while we are on the subject of liverpool we are talking about a club who last season despite playing some of the best football in the league and being able to focus on every league game without european distraction managed to blow their best chance of a league title in nearly 25 years up in smoke... they have lost their one and only world class player since so safe to say its not gunna get any better than last... they missed the boat and could well be another 25 years before they get another chance like that tbh

    now im not gunna deny that all is rosy for united right now far from it but the fact remains that despite no champions league or any european football to offer we can still contrary to the mindless opinions of abus like urself attract the biggest names in word football.. the history and traditions of the club the fan base the financial muscle which is clearly still there playing infront of 76000 fans every week and for a manager that has won it all counts for alot..

    and all those abus out there will have slipped into the shadows long before manchester united ever will thats for sure..

There's banter then there's people being bitter. Transitional period at United. But they'll be back. Whether it's this season, next season or 3 seasons. Progression is key.

      Liverpool are in pot 4, chances are that'll be the group of death, that will only be an extra 6 games this season. While Liverpool will not be as much of a force this season the squad has been strengthened and the philosophy remain intact, much like United they won't simply "slip into the shadows".

      To be fair I think plenty of people thought that the purchasing of RVP was a mistake. Not that he was wasn't a great signing for a season or two in himself...he was and no doubt (don't forget that Rooney was scoring for fun the season before that)...but plenty thought that SAF needed to invest elsewhere as well. That opinion was voiced by many at the time and it has proved to be right. The blame for United's demise (?) isn't just Moyes's, although he made a couple of bad signings, it lies in SAF's last year in charge as well...

        very true wakey theres no doubt fergie neglected what was really needed in the long term the strengthening of the midfield.. i think before fellain the last centre mid we signed was anderson in 06 altho i cud be wrong but u get the drift... fergie knew that by getting rvp and keeping him out of the clutch of city and keeping him fit could win him the title back before he left and so it proved.. he wasnt thinking long term though ur right

    Pre apology...
    Just in from a boozey work meal. Made a few decisions pre season not to knee jerk or chase value too early on. So excuse my smugness to find Jovetic has done the business on the back of Mata's 10 pts.
    Easy to knee jerk after 1/2 games and been guilty of it in the past but my Gw1 team was based on the first 3 or so gws. pleased/smug that I didn't follow the mass advice going on over the last 9 days.
    Sorry again, bit pissed but couldn't resist a bit of inner smugness. ( it won't last, never does)

    Debuchy -> Wisdom
    Eriksen -> Siggy
    Bojan -> Adebayor

    4pt hit.

    Thoughts?

    Anything you would change?

      Wisdom might not be nailed, go for Liam Moore instead, guaranteed starter if not spectacular 🙂

      Don't think it's a profitable transfer in the long term. Just replace Bojan.

    I think Kolarov will start next week, they're playing Stoke at the Etihad..am I wrong? seems Clichy starts against the big sides where City can't afford to be as adventurous

    Might just captain Jovetic at home vs Stoke actually

          Sure....against a defense that pretty much let him do what he wanted and literally served him an assist.

      this is tempting but Ramsey is a nice safe call. Need to wait and see what ML rivals are (works monthly league)

    Lol, can I get some advice on this please?

    Tadic > Lamela
    Bony > Balotelli

    1FT 1.5ITB

    Won't do both this week, Balotelli first

      Save the transfer. Both have decent fixtures this week and the transfers in don't.

        I can see Balotelli scoring a brace on his debut though :/

          I can see him not starting and coming on at the end but that's just an opinion.

    Is the Robertson guy from Hull worth a punt? Maybe a straight swap for Kelly? Also Sanogo could be valuable if Giroud is out for long
