Stevan Jovetic bags a brace as City ease past Liverpool 3-1. Sergio Aguero emerges from the bench to score once again, with a Pablo Zabaleta own goal denying the hosts a second clean sheet of the season.

Jovetic at the Double
The City striker proved a deadly differential in last night’s encounter with Liverpool by bagging a brace in the 3-1 win. Sold by over 24,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers last week, Jovetic sat in less than 5% of Fantasy teams as the Reds rolled up to the Etihad but, handed a start alongside Edin Dzeko once again, he rediscovered the form that saw him net five times in pre-season and delivered a 13-point return for his owners.

Now down to 7.9 in FPL, Jovetic seems in the driving seat to retain a starting berth at home to Stoke next weekend and arguably has the platform to edge ahead of Dzeko in the pecking order. The latter was forced off with a leg problem midway through the second period, though Manuel Pellegrini was optimistic of his chances after the match:

“Edin had a kick that gave him some trouble with his leg but I don’t think it is anything important. We will see tomorrow but I think he will be okay.”

Quick-Fire Aguero Nets Again
Once again, the Argentine demonstrated that he needs little time to make an impact for City. Having netted just seven minutes into his substitute appearance at Newcastle last week, Aguero scored 23 seconds after climbing off the bench to breach the Liverpool backline and bring him onto Fantasy radars ahead of the home clash against Stoke. Granted, Manuel Pellegrini’s team sheets underline he’s clearly determined to protect Aguero as he returns to match sharpness, but if Dzeko fails to recover, the little Argentine could be let loose against the Potters.

Kolarov the fall-guy
Despite putting in a strong attacking display in the clean sheet at Newcastle, it was Aleks Kolarov who was sacrificed for Pablo Zabaleta’s return to the starting XI. Gael Clichy switched to his preferred left-back role, leaving Kolarov on the bench as an unused sub. With Bacary Sagna also now an option for Pellegrini, the full-back situation is looking complex and difficult to read. Secure investment in the City back four looks limited to Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany once again, then.

Reds Unconvincing in Etihad Loss
A late own goal by Pablo Zabaleta was all the Reds had to show for last night’s display. Coming off the back of a narrow home win over Southampton, there are signs that Liverpool may take some time to adjust to life without Luis Suarez. The late introduction of Rickie Lambert suggests the former Southampton man will be no more than Brendan Rodgers’ “Plan B” in the latter part of matches, though Raheem Sterling owners will be a little concerned that the youngster’s minutes were curtailed to allow Lambert pitch time.

In defence, Rodgers has concerns over full-backs Glen Johnson and Albert Moreno who picked up injuries. The former was forced out of the action due to a thigh problem, whilst the Spaniard picked up a sprained ankle on his debut. With a trip to Spurs up next, the Reds defence looks unlikely to chalk up their first shut-out of the season in light of last night’s display, though the schedule does improve significantly from Gameweek 4 onwards.

    Team at the moment:

    Krul - Szeszny
    Terry - Jones - debuchy - Vlaar - Duffy
    Gylfi - Ramsey - Hazard - Young - Albrighton
    Costa - Rooney - Jovovic

    I've 2FT 0.0M in the bank:
    So is it wise to
    1: Young + Rooney --> Mata (to sterling in GW5) + Naismith
resoning: Young aint doing nothing, playing as wing back and rooney will score less with RVP gone...

2: Szeszny --> Foster (mainly to free up cash / use the FT / bad fixtures coming up)

3: Szeszny --> LLoris (long term Tottenham defensive cover)

Krul has good fixtures for a while now, unless you are keen on home/away rotation I don;t think you need a second keeper for a while.
I;m not sold on Rooney to Mata either, but Mata might get a price rise I guess

of big team fallers i'm looking at mangala over luis personally (mangala set to fall to 5.9 i think). i think even when luis breaks in there will still be the constant concern of rotation with the 3 into 2. when managala breaks in (although demichelis has been great) i think he's safer to not only play constantly but also not come off the bench if he doesnt start

plus word on the street is mangala is a big goal threat, luis i'm not ure about attacking wise. in terms of defence last season man city conceded the least attempts on goal of any team for 5 years, and that was before fernando and mangala. they can rival the mourinho machine imo

Wikipedia would agree on Luis goal threat not being great. But if he is down say around 5.5 I think you could conceivably have both

Maybe but that Man city defence is and I think will continue to be a worse risk of rotation. Mourinho tends to be a little less worse in rotating defenders

Agreed... But, Caulker at home to Sunderland (despite QPR being *****) is one of the fixture you would have bought him for in the first place, and Dzeko might yet keep his place if he is fully fit and Pellegrini wants to preserve Aguero yet again.

I've had one good start in 5 years, and I finished in the top 3000 then. The other times I don't get going until around November and manage to haul myself from low midtable to a Europa league spot. Just so fed up never starting well. A lot of luck required for those first two weeks. My team isn't that different to anyone else's but my defence have simply got me no points.

Begovic, Baines, Wisdom, Cahil week one
Begovic, Baines, Chambers, Cahil, Clyne week two

which was better, but still only two CS when most teams had 3. Also had wrong defenders on bench each time.

And Charlie Austin up front. Who has killed me. Apart from that rooney, costa, mata, fab, sterling, erik... the usual suspects.

Thoughts on this for next week, already used my FT
    Krul (Bego)
    Cahill Jones Colo (Clyne Moore)
    Siggy Ramsey Eriksen Hendo Silva
    Rooney Costa (Fletcher)

Thinking of doing Fletcher to Naismith next GW when he has some easier fixtures (wba, CPL). Do we think Naismith is under threat from Eto'o or will Eto'o just fill in when Lukaku needs to be rested/ is injured???

think eto will mostly come on for last 20 in matches, will start the odd game to give Luk a rest. Naysmith is playing more in the hole (although they did change that on sat).

team is good, wouldn't be overly concerned

    Thoughts on this wildcard team

    Krul/Elliot
    Ivan Bertrand PVA (Wisdom/Hutton)
    Cesc Rambo Mata Sterling Siggy
    Aguero Jovetic Naismith
0.7m in the bank (been trading a little) for future transfers (e.g. bringing in Ade if Jovetic loses his place springs to mind)

Has coverage from all the major teams (top 7; well, if Ade for Jovetic) + siggy + Ivan + sot defender in the same team

Is Jovetic is a sure starter for the next few games?

Didn't get any good suggestions before?

0,0 in the bank. Need to get rid of Giroud (8,4).

Who to get in? Jovetic the only option that seems to make sense but that's also very risky.

    Krulliot
    Terry-PJones-Chambers-Hutton-Moore
    Mata-Ramsey-Silva-Siggy-Wanyama
    Rooney-Costa-(Giroud)

I did Giroud to Jovetic this morning, seems sensible at the moment and his price will hopefully rise this week.

    DDG (myhill)
    Caulker, clyne, chester (wisdom, moore)
    Hazard, Ramsey, Siggy, sterling, eriksen
    Costa, rooney (vaz te)

0.6m left, obviously playing wisdom for chester this week, also do people think rooney, costa or rambo captain this week? rooney looking the best atm due to vsing burnley but tempted to go ramsey

For those who are getting Aguero - which striker u will transfer out?

I am getting rid of Costa and maybe I will get him after Rooney's matches vs Burnley,QPR and Leicester.

did he look like a must during the 1st half against everton?

  26. Electric_Beard

    Team at the moment:

    Begovic - Myhill
    Chambers - Caulker - Cahill - Bruce - Cameron
Gylfi - Ramsey - Sterling - Young - El Ahmadi
    Costa - Rooney - Sturridge

    0.4M in the bank.

Panicking on Young and worried his price will plummet now everyone can see their pre-season punt is going t*ts up.

Also worried about shaky defense, felt I've taken too much of a gamble with both Chambers & caulker.

Young or Caulker out before I lose too much or stick and wait for 2FTs during the international break?

FPL are no longer publishing the data on price rises/falls so both Total FPL and FISO are completely in the dark.

So Giroud out for approximately 10 weeks. Arsenal's luck with injuries doesn't get better. But it could be a blessing in disguise if they buy someone good. Who are the best replacements? IMO

    A) Falcao. He is a beast but will cost them too much even though he is 29 and just come back from a major injury so its a huge risk.

    B) Benzema. If Madrid are still interested in Falcao as some reports say. Very unlikely at this point of the transfer window.

    C) Cavani. The best option IMO. He is a beast when at his best which he can rediscover and is exactly what Arsenal need. I don't think he is happy at PSG. His wages could be a problem.

    D) Bony. A very good striker but not world class yet. Proven in EPL and wouldn't cost more than 25m whereas all the other options will be 40-45m+. The most likely of the options.

    E) Stick with what they have and have another average season.

Bottom line is that they need to act fast. Wha do you guys think?

I dunno if Bony would suit Arsenal's style

Jackson Martinez could be an option too. I'm certain if this happened 1 week earlier, Balotelli would ended up in Arsenal.

I want Benzema so bad. Think we can mount a real challenge with him and Giroud. Don't see it happening though

Too late in the market I don't think Madrid would let go. I prefer Cavani though. He is the physical presence they need up front and he has the speed and strength needed for epl. He is technically very good as well and would suit Arsenal's style. Napoli played beautiful solid football back in his days and they still do.

    Bego > Krul for FT?

    Bego - Gilks
    Jones - Caulker - Clyne - Hutton - Wisdom
    Fab - Rambo - Mata - Siggy - Marney
    Roo - Costa - Jovetic
