Obtaining a better balance to your squad is fundamental to Fantasy success. It’s all very well selecting the likes of Frank Lampard and Robin Van Persie but if such luxury choices leave you rummaging around the bargain basement for players that offer little returns, it’s perhaps time for a re-think.

Since the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) 2011/12 game launched on late Thursday evening, we’ve been working away in the background and, after many hours of number-crunching, have produced our first set of Projected Points Returns for the upcoming season.

The factors taken into consideration with our Projections are varied- past performance, team tactics, possible rotation, the impact of new signings, susceptibility to injury, the new FPL Bonus Points system and even January 2012‘s African Cup of Nations come into the equation. As pre-season continues and the season unfolds, we will update these figures on a regular basis to offer an up-to-date reflection of each player’s potential going into Gameweek one. Our full list of “Projections” will be released on the Members Area early next week but, over a series of articles, we’re going to start to dissect them right here and now for our Members.

Our aim is to help shape your Fantasy squad for the upcoming campaign with a series of articles highlighting those players who come out favourably in one of the most vital categories- value per Fantasy pound. By identifying the likely returns on offer next season, we pick our way through the positions and look, in the main, at the low-to-mid-price candidates who will hopefully provide that all-important balance required for your Fantasy squad ahead of the start of next season.

        Not sure the new bonus system will favour him as much as the old and he's hardly prolific. However should make up for it with assists and fixtures are nice. I'm going with duff & holt though rather than zamora.

  I think there's a bit of competition for him. Nathan Dyer is a definite starter on the wing for swansea and last season's player of the year. Doesn't get too many goals though.

  i had sinclair in my earlier drafts but i had to be honest with myself, do i really plan on using him 3 of the first 6 gws?
  City, Arsenal and Chelsea away? not worth it till that run is over, even if the other 3 home ties are promising. a player has got to at least have 4 playable fixtures in first 6 to start the year with IMO. arteta is injured may not be ready. i think luiz is a bit of a gamble. otherwise pretty good.

        rooney and holt. for the same money (maybe .5 less?) im goin bent and zamora. rooney might outscore my two guys combined week 1 and i look a fool, but i think bent can be close to rooney over a longer stretch and i like zamora way better than holt.

        i had Zamora in my initial draft too. and i like zamora way better than holt too. if i were to put zamora, i have to downgrade lampard to maybe sessegnon and yaya to silva. that will leave me with no chelsea coverage except for Acole. Drogba is too big a rotation risk :/

  If aguero does join I'll probably do Suarez to Aguero, and downgrade N'zog if he doesn't move, or Riise to Hughes if he does.
  
  As for Sinclair I still reckon he's worth it with penatlies and a few nice fixtures in there. Also I can't see anyone else for better value at 6 tbh.
  
  What's the story with Monk, and who would you recommend in the back 7 for 4 instead?(taking into consideration I hate to double up at all in the back 7)

As I'm reading through everyone's team and noticing the similarities in players, I am keeping in my mind Mauro Boselli...it is very likely one of the "nailed on picks of the year" will flounder

    4 of your defenders are not good enough to play 4-5-1. it is better to stick with 3-4-3 and upgrade your attack. and as for now we don't know much about young.

I try to avoid the most popular players at the start of the season, they more potential to drop in price if they dont perform.

  thats a danger with suarez. so many own him, its like he can only be dropped more than added unless he goes bananas and week 1. hes currently in my squad and it worries me. but im waiting on aguero.

      Great stuff Switchfoot. I don't have the code. I missed one bye week & cost myself 659 points. I'm in the league coming 2nd but that's due to the mistake. I'd be around the 500 mark or so. Hope you take out the $30K. 🙂

    I don't get that ...... going on last seasons points at 8.0 or less, the only person to score significantly more than Vidic was Odemwinge and N'Zogbia in the midfield and forward line. What does it matter where you score your points? The way i'm seeing it is by having him there, it makes it easy to change him into a Baines or Cole in defence if needed. Though i have no idea really.

      Based on last year's scores, the top 10 mids and fwds averaged nearly 2 points more per game than the top 10 defenders. The only defender with a respectable points haul was Baines and the chalkboard reveals he was playing as an advanced midfielder. So with cs plus set play duties, he was a worthy buy.
      
      Other than that, most defenders barely averaged 4 ppg - a poor return.
      
      Save your cash for the mids and fwds. If you scout around and plan a defender rotation carefully, you will find players from teams with fixtures that give you just as much opportunity fro cleenies 😉

here it is lads, in all its glory. every player is in this squad for a reason. plenty of familiar faces, and a few scrubs. I think GW1 looks great, and of course Im looking ahead as well but an early good start is vital.

    bent yaya lampard was vdv, rvp and sinclair. i love vdv and i wish i could get him and lamps in but not many lamps owners and i wanted someone to cover chelsea attack that was reliable.
    so yeah i hear ya. those 3 spots may be switching back and forth a few times before that deadline comes.

      My 2c fuzzy, get in roon & holt instead of bent & zamora. Reason being rooney's great for gw1 & 2 and it will allow you to bring rvp or torres straight in if they are in form without doing a major re-shuffle.

        Yeah imo should start with at least one 12.0 striker to make it easier to swap.
        Holt could replicate dj Campbell's success imo but its always a gamble with players untested in the prem. I'd rather gamble on holt at 5.5 than taarabt at 6.5. He's captain & targetman of the most gung Ho attacking promoted team, on pens and he's returned copious amounts of goals and assists at every level he's played so far. Gw's 1,2 & 4 give him the fixtures to succeed and if not sell in gw5

  Prefer Cole to Baines then upgrade one of your 4.0 defenders.
  
  The rest of your team is very good. I don't like Bent much though, and Yaya's injury status needs monitoring.
  
  You're playing the fixtures a little too much for my liking. The likes of Van Der Vaart and RVP might have tougher fixtures, but they're fantasy gold, and it doesn't matter who they play.

    you will find me saying how vdv is fixture proof on posts the last several days. it appears everyone is in agreement on questioning bent and yaya. i may kill two birds if aguero arrives. replace bent instead if suarez is fit and would give me city coverage so yaya isnt so necessary.
    
    im stubbornly stuck to having baines however. especially as long as arteta is ailing.
    
    RVP will come in week 4. yes i know im looking at fixtures, but also its 3 weeks to see him staying fit, hopefully i dont get burned if i keep him off for now

      The thing that is worrying with your team, is the difficulty you may have trying to get a 12.0 striker. What happens if Rooney, RVP, Tevez, or Torres even, starts incredibly? The mass early surge bandwagons are very important to jump on for the price rises, and you'd have to make lots of transfers to shift the money.

  i would dump luiz, a risk. get a nailed on defender at 1.5-2.0 less, and put that money toward one of your 2 weaker forwards, i will naturally suggest zamora. with baines and kompany you are planning to surely start every week, find another cheapie to rotate w/ barsley and simpson. like it was pointed out above, defenders on the whole wont score as much. so i almost always go with 3 in the back. oh and i dont want to sound like a broken record but i think it best to wait on sinclair. arguably his 3 toughest fixtures for the whole season will come in the first 6 GWs. i know looking at week 1 you cant be excited about away to city.
