Despite his exertions for Uruguay in this month’s Copa America, it seems Luis Suarez may well be ready for Liverpool’s opening game of the season at home to Sunderland.

The forward has been given a three-week break by his club but reports have surfaced in this morning’s papers suggesting he will cut short his holiday in preparation for the start of the 2011/12 campaign.

Suarez, voted Player of the Tournament for Uruguay as they swept aside Paraguay in Sunday‘s final, has already had a substantial rest period over the past few months; while at Ajax, he served a seven-match ban for biting an opponent in late November last year and had a fortnight break prior to the Copa America. Fears of burn-out, therefore, seem slightly off the mark.

While there has been no official line from either club or player on the matter, the story, nevertheless, carries significant weight for Fantasy managers as they continue tinkering with their squads ahead of the season opener on 13th August.

Liverpool’s starting trio of matches reads (SUN, ars, BOL) and Suarez, priced at just 9.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has already shown in the second half of last season just how integral he will be to Kenny Dalglish’s side next term- a look at our Members Area confirms we have similarly high expectations for Suarez in 2011/12. For those looking for early Liverpool forward investment, Andy Carroll, at 10.0, looks the better bet until the situation offers more clarity.

The top player last season and top premiership assister has been totally neglected in any team - Nani

A team (Aston Villa) with a GD of -11 at the end of the season!! has the most chosen goalie who played 4 times last yr and none in the league!!!

This can only be preseason bandwagon banter - Is our favourite captain Nani now long forgotten? And when did Shay Given become FFS top player to pick!?

    On another note:-

    Barton and Graham

    or

    Sessengnon and Hulse ??

Nani was top scorer when he had no competition for places from Valencia or Young, now he has both.

      Given is an excellent keeper.

Utd have terrible early fixtures and there is the aforementioned competition for starts from Young and Valencia.

Given is a top keeper playing for a side that have the easiest fixtures at the start of the season. Also the new manager is well known for his defensive style.

My plan is to build a team to capitalise on early fixtures and then use the wildcard to pick up players once form players start to emerge.

1 Everyone seems to have picked Kompany, is there not a high risk that he will be rotated like last season?

    2. Rise is playing on the wing pre-season if he continues to play on the wing for Fulham, for 6million surely he is better value?

    Your thoughts?

    Wilshere

i have him in my team £6.5million - ive read a few posts saying that he will be a poor choice but can anyone alaborate on this as to why - he is reasonably priced for an arsenal midfielder - and what better options would you choose for midfield for that value

He's comparable to Modric, a great playmaker and an integral part of a team, but he just doesn't live up to the Points Criteria given by FPL.

By that I mean, he doesn't score often. Often offers the defense splitting pass, pre-assist, but rarely the penultimate pass leading to a goal.

Surely there are a lot of options at that price? Sinclair, Albrighton, Etherington, Barton, NZogbia slightly higher, etc ....

    O'Shea-Jags-Kompany (Wlkinson, Olsson)
    Taarabt-O'Hara-Yaya-N'Zog (Sinclair)

hello denis, probably try to get those decent mid in your team either ONE of these (malouda, downing, bale) ..... too much on fwd, i think rooney should be sufficient earlier season, no doubt rvp capabilities but having tough fixtures so do review again, anyway plenty of time to play around with the team lol

      cheers.
