Paul Today’s Members article sees the top ten defenders in terms of value come under the spotlight. What’s noticeable with regard to our projected points per Fantasy pound is only one of our top ten defenders ranks higher than any of yesterday’s top ten goalkeepers- with “Save” points boosting the goalkeeper tallies, it highlights the importance of picking the correct goalkeeper pairing in order to get the most out of your budget…
With all these pricey defenders in the top value category, these figures suggest that you should invest a lot more in defence this year. Personally, I suspect that they are slightly overcooked but we shall see.
Being doing a few calculations with the goalkeeper stats and finding a few interesting things. Of these, there is some arbitrariness about some figures which you can see by comparing Given with Schwarzer. Same number of appearances and cleansheets yet Given manages to find an extra 10 points with only 11 more saves!!
There are several possible explanations for this
1 – Given has more 3 save matches
2 – Villa have fewer games where they concede 2 goals (or 4 or 6…)
3 – Given gets points for penalty saves
Based on the number of clean sheets, and saves, it seems unlikely that the first two of these would explain the extra points for Given. It might come down to penalty saves but I don’t see any mention of this in the article. Is there some “luck of the Irish” factor that I have not seen?
All this might be a little irrelevant were it not that the difference in points is all explained by these factors. Give or take these “floating points”, and it could easily be Schwarzer who should be ranked at the top of the value table.
I noticed something similar yesterday looking at the defenders. Bardsley had one less appearence than O'Shea but scored 2 more goals (from memory). Same assists, clean sheets and almost identical yellow cards and bonus. Bardsely was projected one point less than O'Shea but you think it would be higher.
There does't seem to be a equation that uses the figures for goals, assists etc to work out the total points. They seem to be calculated independently... ot at least the not calculated in the same way for each player (even ones playing for the same team).

Had a bit of a crazy night yesterday. And Pancho off Dirty Sanchez is a dick.
What are people's thought on having 3 4.0m defenders? I've gone for Baines & Kompany who I will start almost every week - then pick whichever 1 of the 3 cheapies has the better fixture?

I think it's a well good strategy, I usually always go for it most seasons. This season I'm going with Cole, kompany and baines though, playing every week

That game was never gonna be any better than the result we got...we lost fair and square and as we should have...Ozzies had their A-Team and we played with B and C rated players. Pride stings and losing is never accepted...we should have done better...so yeah...we got out played and fair enough...that team was pretty great to watch. The pace of the Wallabies is so dangerous.
You also got to factor in that most South Africans don't agree with the current coaching set-up and have thus marked the loss as yet another indication of just how poor we will be in the World Cup.

ye but it will depend on how arsenal play..he could be out on the wing and being classed as a striker won't help

Dzeko and Balo both started at around 9.5, but Kun would be the #1 striker with Tevez (12m) leaving. That would lead me to think around 11. But Suarez started at 9 and is 9.5 this season, hopefully Kun can be a steal at around 10-10.5 🙂
