The final instalment in our series of Big Numbers articles focussing on Gameweeks 1-3 is rolled out this evening. After assessing the fortunes of defenders and midfielders, we now turn our attentions to the men up front – Chelsea and Southampton’s summer signings come under assessment, as do Everton’s in-form budget striker and the contrasting fortunes of a pair of Manchester-based front men.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Any glaring issues to be dealt with? Any tips or advice would be very much appreciated!

Its a strong team. Not a fan of Boyd at this stage, simply because I'm not sure he'll be a regular starter.

Costa and Ramsey on yellow flag , that's why press could be deciding..but can't afford 0.1 rise on Moreno..

ive got lovren and have been to-ing and fro-ing about moving for moreno all week, but ive come to the sensible realisation that lovren is a long-term pick regardless of price increases or drops, and the transfer is better better saved to use elsewhere (like getting rid of chambers or rooney, or getting welbeck in if required). Lovren and Moreno is a 50/50 in any case, the only reason i was considering it was price changes, but as i said im satisfied with not moving regardless. If you're lucky (and im unlucky) you might even be able to get Lovren at 5.4 as well, in which case its a no-brainer.

On WC I'd pick Costa-Balotelli-Naismith. Welbeck is enticing though.

If you exclude those two though it would be a toss-up between having a non-playing cheap 3rd forward or moving for Bony/Dzeko/Adebayor.

So far United strikers have contributed 1 goal and 0 assists in 3 easy fixtures... I already got rid of Mata, and if Rooney doesn't score this weekend he's gone too. In fact I'd probably trade him for Balotelli even if he scored, once he goes back to 10.5 ofcourse 🙂

Rose isn't a great pick. Choose Caulker instead.

Its also a bit silly to effectively take hits on not one but two defender swaps when even doing one isn't too smart. I wouldn't take hits for Naismith>Welbeck either due to fixtures.

Weighing up whether or not Balotelli is worth considering for the upcoming GW. Do we anticipate that he'll lead the line in Sturridge's absence, or will Lambert come in to the starting XI?

    1. 1314
      • 11 Years

I think Balo will play..may be both start together..

        1. Najoman86
          • 16 Years
          11 years, 3 months ago

Agree that Balotelli looks a lock to start, however my question is more to do with his starting position. Do we expect him to lead the line, or sit out wide to accommodate Lambert

I'm anticipating a Liverpool front 3 against Villa of either:
          Balotelli-Lambert-Sterling or Markovic/Lallana?-Balotelli-Sterling

          1. rickardinho
            • 11 Years
            11 years, 3 months ago

If Lambert plays then its definitely in a 442 diamond, so Balotelli is central as well. If BR would choose to go 433 then it would be Lallana or Markovic playing wide rather than Lambert pushing Balotelli there. I'm a Liverpool fan btw fwiw

            1. Najoman86
              • 16 Years
              11 years, 3 months ago

Interesting. Cheers Rickardinho. I'm anticipating a very attacking mindset/formation from Rodgers at home to Villa this weekend... really makes Balotelli a viable option to get in asap!

                • 11 Years
                11 years, 3 months ago

                At home, BR is more inclined to play a 4- 2 - 3 -1 with Balo to lead in Sturridge's absence, or even a 4 - 3 - 3, still with Balo.

                That would leave no room for Lambert, given Lallana/Cout/Sterling will probably play across the three (in the 4 - 2 - 3 - 1), or Sterling - Balo - Lallana/Markovic in the 4 - 3 - 3.

Great write-up Trigger. I really like the idea of a fluid front 8. I would find it tough to bench a Fabregas or Ramsey if selected.
What are the main reasons behind the changes made in DEF? Rotation? PVA ahead of Wilson?

What are your thoughts about a late GW WC activation? See the merits, or better to have them activated early in the GW to gain full value (doesn't seem like much value to be had with the current price changes)?

    Costa – Rooney – Dzeko

That defense looks treacherous. If you have anything itb upgrade one of Wisdom, Bruce, or Hutton. If there's nothing itb you should downgrade Terry to moreno/lovren/clyne and upgrade one of the other 3 to janmaat or another 5.0 or 4.5. Debuchy could be an issue too, so could move him.

Would love to hear some DZ opinions on a different kind of wc team:

    Bego, McCarthy
    Moreno, Bertrand, collochini, naylor, Moore
    Fabregas, sterling, siggy, tadic, mirallas
    Costa, baloteli, adebayor

    1. rickardinho

Keepers are good. You can ride Bego's fixtures and cash in on any rises from mccarthy if he plays. the defense looks good and balanced too. i'd only have an issue with mirallas as he's too expensive to bench. Might want to consider someone cheaper like JWP for example (though you've already got tadic so maybe someone else). I like the rest of the team though.

    morning dz, how we doing?

Recently moved to the Uk and pretty disappointed at the lack of pl games shown on TV due to the rules here 🙁

Are there any football shows on tv where they discuss the games etc. in South africa, they broadcast a two hour show everyday...

Sky is the go-to broadcaster for PL, but BT have been taking a larger and larger share the last two seasons, and could outbid sky entirely for the majority rights soon too.

Match of the Day (MOTD) and MOTD2 on BBC1 is on in the evenings on weekends to show comprehensive highlights for 1.5-2 hours

Not wanting rift on the OP's pain but the times here are perfect for pub time. Early Sat kick off 6.45 pm and 3pm ko at 9pm. Champions league just doesn't happen though!

Same here in Samui. It is weird in England. The rest of the world can watch the early Sat game, choose from all the 3pm kick offs, get the late Saturday game and both on Sunday. My subscription is about 30 pounds a month.

The old argument was the if all the games were on tv then attendances would fall. I can kind of see this for the 'smaller' Prem teams but it does seem very out of date

thanks all...i managed to get sky and bt so can watch whats on offer but wasnt aware that its illegal to show 3pm games in the UK, thats just evil

guess i will just find an online link to watch it.

In SA, there is a show called FAPL TV where they discuss the games in detail during the week which i abs love

As above, some pubs will show an illegal satellite feed for 3pm games, have to hunt them out

    WCT

    begovic

    clyne / moreno / cahill

fabregas / di maria / silva / stirling

    welbeck / naismith / costa (c)

solid. i'd downgrade di maria to ramsey though. Welbecks fixtures aren't great, so i'd only pick one of him and naismith, not both, and have a big hitter as 2nd forward. Your team is well balanced though.

Hey all, what are the thoughts about a late GW WC activation? See the merits, or better to have them activated early in the GW to gain full value (doesn't seem like much value to be had with the current price changes)?

you won't have missed out on much, apart from naismith and welbeck and a handful of others. unless you have a shocking team or lots of injuries WC doesn't make sense imo

    Front 8 :
    A. Ramsey Sterling Siggy Tadic FABREGAS
    Costa Aguero WELBECK

    or

    B. Ramsey Sterling Siggy Tadic 4.5MID
    Costa Aguero FALCAO

Neither imo. Too early to get Falcao, and im a fan of having a bench fodder 5th mid.

neither. get naismith or downgrade falcao and use the funds to improve your defense (which im assuming is looking terrible)

Ramsey: “I’ll be all right – the pitch was very hard there’s no give in it so I rolled my ankle a bit,” he said. “Hopefully it will be nothing and I’ll be available for Saturday".

I'm really glad that award winning playwright Michael Starr
has been cleared of plagiarising Listopia, and does not at all come across like a twat. I don't know who would think he's a *as he can take a joke and this looks really good for him. Award winning playwright Michael Starr, the plagiarist is not something we will hear in the future thank god.

Michael Starr, award-winning playwright copied some stuff
Posted it on his blog as his own rather than credit the source. Then spat his dummy out after being accused of plagiarism
