With the international hiatus almost over, we thought we’d take the opportunity to revisit PlayON to remind you of the new methods of play that the game has recently introduced, ahead of tomorrow’s player picks.

PlayON’s new mechanics are very different to anything we’ve seen in Fantasy Football games to this point but the potential of the strategy involved is promising to say the least.

Daily Games

Last weekend we saw PlayON provide the first set of daily games, allowing us to pick lineups and enter teams for multiplayer games across Saturday and Sunday’s fixtures, in addition to the weekend as a whole.

Selections for daily games are made by first using the dropdown in the left-hand corner of your PlayON dashboard, which shows the current Gameweek by default: this allows you to select either Saturday, Sunday or Monday daily games

You can enter up to three teams for each game – so, effectively, over a Saturday/Sunday weekend programme, you can have nine teams active and can still be picking new teams on Saturday and Sunday.

In-Play Tournaments

Whilst Fantasy managers are well versed with dealing with deadlines, PlayON have broadened their offering to provide In-Play games, which allow us to go on competing for prizes even after kick-off.

PlayON’s team selection deadline is still two hours before the first kick-off of the day or Gameweek. However, once this is passed, you can now jump into In-Play games for one-on-ones and limited entry multiplayer match-ups (3, 4, 5, 10 or 20 player games). You can also opt out of any In-Play game before it fills up using the “unjoin” function.

Adopting Teams

While you may want to meticulously tinker with an array of lineups, PlayON also introduces a new dimension to competing in In-Play games, enabling you to use a lineup created by another user.

This can give you a quick and simple method of joining new games. PlayON even gives you the facility to search for teams which include a particular player or set of players, so, if Wayne Rooney has scored a brace and you want to take his points into an In-Play game, you can search and find a team which includes him and adopt that.

There are layers of strategy to this. In-Play teams can include players who have already played and earned points but, of course, you may wish to gamble on a lineup that includes more players who are yet to play rather than get points in the bank. To see all of this in action, just click into the “Use Other People’s Teams” button on the Matchday page once the team picking deadline passes.

Earning Income From Your Teams

When you adopt another user’s PlayON lineup for In-Play games, they will earn a commission should you win. The flipside of this is that you can earn money from your PlayON lineups if they are adopted by other users. So, if you create three PlayON lineups each week and your selections score well, you could earn an income from your teams without entering any games and with no outlay.

You might, for example, select a team with Danny Welbeck up front ahead of Saturday’s early kick-off with Man City. Should Welbeck score a goal, there will likely be a clamour for PlayON teams that include him in order to bank his points for In-Play games.

Your team with Welbeck will be available to others to see and use and you can set the level of commission you want from other users to use your team. You can also adjust this in real time so after Welbeck scores, you may want to increase it a few percentage points. If others are successful with your team, you will earn that percentage of their winnings.

You can set commission levels from 2% right up to 20% but, of course, the lower the commission level, the more likely your team will be an attractive option for others.

Look out for our PlayON picks tomorrow lunchtime ahead of another round of PlayON games. This weekend there’s a guaranteed £1,000 pot up for grabs in the full gameweek, plus a guaranteed £500 for Saturday’s daily game and a guaranteed £250 pot for the Sunday and Monday daily games. Check them all out at www.playon.co

need one defender after downgrading forwards and have unlimited funds.....already have Clyne, PVA and Shawcross,

who is the essential defender going forward...like Ivan, but he is expensive and Chelsea have a rough patch ahead........bite on Rojo, moreno or somebody else?

Does the reason for his low standing in your table not have something to do with the fact that he's only played two games, and one was against City?

No - it is to do with what he has done. He has been unbelievably hyped, in my honest opinion.

Of course, please take that with a pinch of salt.

Yes, it is to do with what he's done, BUT what he has done has been affected by his one less game and trip to the Etihad.

Now we are on three, Billy, it tends to be pretty fair.

I do take your point - except that the Citeh game is just another game. He was either playing, or not.

Anyway - he will have to a LOT better to get me excited.

AND, IF he does - I will be the first to ram him in!

Yes, but a game at the Etihad for a defender is hardly a game is it? A defender is highly unlikely to record any attacking stats of note, set pieces aside.

I certainly think you're right about the hype, all down to one goal and doesn't really deserve to be in every team going 🙂

But at the same time, he is the equal cheapest route into a defence that *ought* to do well out of these fixtures, and is a full-back who should benefit from this year's bonus system.

            We'll see, I guess.

Indeed, that's why I placed the emphasis on 'ought' 😀

But: I expected Rodgers to tighten up this season; we've seen him drill a tight defence in his time at Swansea; and we've seen some evidence of that happening against Southampton (look at the defensive stats from that game). It's a punt, absolutely, but not a completely unfounded one.

I did the same move last night and will captain him this week 😀

Naismith to me is absolutely key to the game - bringing him in suddenly frees up so much cash to improve the rest of the team. Problem is the big Everton strikers are coming back - not so sure on Barkley yet. Doing Bony to him this week and that's 3 million to play with.

Those that have him - do you see him as a short term solution till Welbeck is bedded in and has good fixtures? Or do you hope he can justify selection with his form for a bit longer yet and hope the main strikers get rotated? I'm keeping the cash back for the Welbeck move as insurance - as if he cements the lone striker spot he just has to play.

if he keeps on scoring well he stays, simple as that. He done really well at the tail end of last season and has carried on that form. Even with Lukaku and Barkley in the team he has been getting decent gametime. cant see RM changing that unless he suffers a serious dip in form

Yeah - and he made a few chances for himself v the world champs too. Will be interesting to see what RM does with Luk, Kone and Eto all fully fit - guess Luk at his transfer fee is no 1 but 2 up top is an option certainly at Goodison

Too many people seem to assume that a low price in FPL actually bears a relation to real life team selection or ability on the pitch.
Why would any manager drop a player who is scoring every game?

Can't see him being dropped but with 3 other fit strikers his game time might get reduced...and Welbeck at 7 million looks an even more attractive longer term option...

      no

you are unlikely to change your keeper or mids at all
You'll probably stick with 3/4 defenders
which only leaves frontline and I don't understand people taking him out before Sunday

So thats maybe 3/4 changes in total? Not worth wildcarding

But if I want to change the frontline I would have to downgrade someone in midfield making it more than 3/4 changes. But I hear you. Will wait till after the pressers tomorrow. Really dont like taking hits

I think Rooney may escape the bench because:
          LVG made him captain
Rooney's work rate is much better
Rooney is a much more versatile player than Mata
Falcao may not be ready to start

I'm convinced Rooney will start too...possibly in the hole, possibly up front...but as you say he is a versatile player and captain. He was made captain over RVP for good reason as he's going to be playing more.

Indeed. If they gel Rooney will be in the mix with goals or assists. I've been here many times before with Rooney's form questioned...but every season he racks up huge final total score tallies.

He's the magic potato man of points.

If I was on a WC, I'd probably have punted on him. I don't know if that tells you anything.

He's undoubtedly getting lots of chances and we have decent fixtures. But he might be frustrating… There are much worse choices and I can't see much at his price point, other than a Welbeck who may not start and Naismith.

Ok you've picked Schneiderlin. Most wouldn't but you have.

So you have to think to yourself - with Ramsey and Siggy playing the two best teams in the league (IMO) - if you don't play Schneiderlin now (at home to a struggling Newcastle), when are you ever going to play him? You'd have invested 5.5 in bench fodder. Seems inefficient.

He has the stats so far this season to back up his points.
My point is there is nothing wrong with having him on the bench this week as it's great cover in case Ramsey or Costa don't play - I'd much rather have him/Zaha/Dyer over Boyd.
People who moan about points on the bench confuse me, I want all 15 of my players to do well and be on form.

Just because he scored and assisted against Manchester United doesn't make him undroppable (I think I made up a new word).
Chelsea away is a tough fixture and he will be on my bench.
The week after I'm benching Fabregas - you always have to drop the player least likely to score points.

I'd pick one keeper and stick with him, you can save cash there

Def is solid but Duff might not be nailed, I'd go Moore/Wisdom instead

Mids and forwards are good but you have no city players. Not too important now but in 2 weeks you'll want one and I'd have a plan of how to get either Silva/Aguero/Dzeko by that point

Shawcross is probably my pick. Good fixtures, goal threat, plus more likely to get bonus in Stoke's team. Lovren/Moreno are good too.

I always start off with clean sheets being the main reason for getting a defender - anything else is extra. Trippier is not hogging set pieces as we thought plus Burnley are a Championship side that will get beaten - regularly.

Is the order of priority below, for shipping out the non-performers (or potential non performers) correct? I know who I want in to replace them but only have 1FT... Don't want to take more than a -4 if possible

    1. Bony (Just not performing)
    2. Mata (not sure about game time, good fixtures though)
    3. Chambers (game time getting less likely)

Other considerations are that I have both Costa and Rambo who are yellow flagged.
