After a two-week hiatus, our Friday evening analysis of the armband options in the Gameweek ahead comes around again. Our three-part approach takes in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Captain Poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

Captain Poll

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea’s Diego Costa leads the way after notching four times in his first three appearances. The Spain international once again heads into the weekend with hamstring doubts hanging over his pitch time but, after recovering from a similar problem to bag a brace at Goodison in Gameweek 3, he has earned the nod from over 29% of Fantasy managers so far as Jose Mourinho’s side welcome Swansea to the Bridge.

Despite scoring just twice in their first three matches under Louis van Gaal, United are still heavily backed for their home encounter against QPR. Radamel Falcao and Wayne Rooney sit second and fourth respectively in the Captain Poll and the Colombian’s previous ability to settle quickly in his new surrounds have persuaded 15% to select him compared to Rooney’s 13%. Harry Redknapp’s side have shipped four goals in their only road trip to date but a switch from 3-5-3 to 4-4-1-1 earned the R’s their first clean sheet of the campaign last time around.

Liverpool’s attackers are also high in our collective estimations. Raheem Sterling is the favoured option from Brendan Rodgers’ side – after scoring in two of his first three appearances, the youngster has picked up over 13% of your votes for a plum home clash with Aston Villa. With Daniel Sturridge sidelined for the Merseysiders, Mario Balotelli could be a real differential for this one, bearing in mind he’s owned by less than 6% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

In spite of a testing clash with City at the Emirates, Arsenal new boy Danny Welbeck remains on the radar. A double for England against Switzerland has certainly had an impact – 3.55% of Fantasy managers fancy handing him the armband, more than either Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard for Chelsea’s encounter with Swansea.

    Last time I will ask on this page;

    On WC

    1. Pick Rooney and leave 0.6 ITB (and most likely captain him)

    2. Pick Falcao straight up. (and probably captain Costa)

Not a fan of picking new signings. I picked Costa because he had a great preseason, but Falcao is coming of an injury, hasn't had alot of training with United or even a behind the doors friendly, didn't play more than 15 mins for colombia, and United are a mess... I think thats reason enough to pick Balotelli or Rooney.

      2. If you want him just get him on the WC, Jack. Next week is Champ's League and Euro Vase so there's always the possibility of an injury to another player.

I see - I thought you maybe just wanted to see if he starts this week then get him next, or the week after. If you're in no hurry then I'd keep the money, although his price will rise sharply once the protection is lifted.

So like some of you might remember from past weeks this season, I have decided to post the Point Benchmarks each Friday night before a GW and so far I have been pretty good with keeping up with that. Early season is one of the most optimistic times to look at these as everything is close together and all of your preseason goals are well within your reach, so without further ado..here are your point benchmarks going into GW 4:

    Top 3 Million: 63 Points
    Top 2 Million: 118 Points
    Top 1.5 Million: 130 Points
    Top 1 Million: 141 Points
    Top 500K: 154 Points
    Top 250K: 163 Points
    Top 100K: 173 Points
    Top 50K: 179 Points
    Top 20K: 185 Points
    Top 10K: 190 Points
    Top 5K: 194 Points
    Top 1K: 203 Points
    Top 500: 207 Points
    Top 100: 215 Points
    Top 50: 218 Points
    #1 Overall: 244 Points

Way I see it, the way I'm handling my 'injured' players like Costa and Ramsey is by simply playing them week in week out as long as they're only niggles. Was hurt too much by benching Costa last time out and the fact is clubs won't bring on 'injured' players for 5-10 minute cameos, why would you risk further injury? So play and make sure to pick a good vice captain if they don't.

      Looks very nice.

Just something for you to consider 😆

      A) Begovic + Clyne + Wilson/Chester

      B) Forster + Janmaat + Wilson

      Prefer B to A, but it's just a suggestion 🙂

      I hope it's around 80% +..

This is the last week for him. If he's not involved against an attacking, newly-promoted team at home...then he's never going to be involved.

Is Tadic or Pelle a better avenue in to Saints' attack? Also, is Ivan worth it if wildcarding?

Im thinking of getting in Zaha for a -4 . Nice run of fixtures and can start a decent 11 (probably)
So , at least leaning towards a Yay..
