With a quarter of the season now gone, we’ve decided to cast an eye over the shooting accuracy of the Premier League’s finest in this, our latest Numbers Game article for Members.

In order to eliminate most anomalies here, only those players who have had at least 10 shots at goal and have at least 2 goals are analysed. This still leaves a substantial sample size of the top flight’s main men to scour over and turns up the usual array of interesting results.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

It also might be that the urge to play the fixtures becomes the overriding factor, which is also frickin foolish too I reckon. Good players playing in good teams are fixture proof.

          a) You only 'lose' money if you buy him back.

          b) Why does nobody ever think of it as money gained? And as such are 'afraid' to sell someone because they've gone up in price.

I'm going to make £0.4m on Malouda and £0.3m on Tevez and have got points from them. If/when the times comes that I ever want them back they'll be whatever price they are and I won't think "Oh poopy pants I sold him for £0.3m less!" Prices scare people into keeping players.

I think Fabregas will score more points than Malouda, and I'd captain him. Happy and simple transfer for me.

Would be annoying if Simon Davies finally does something this week though. After spending 6 weeks in my team and being the most boring player in the history of FPL.

Yeah, SD - Young is the big differential. Although I managed to forget that Albrighton is suspsended for the weekend when making the change (Young playing out wide makes him less appealing).

Villa have cracking fixtures, and he is playing as a second striker. Nowt can go wrong!

Although chances are that Hernandez will be benched and Young will miss yet another penalty. 😉

I think Fabs will score more points than Mal too, most people do. However, when Malouda strikes another rich vein of form (which he inevitably will) you will kick yourself for losing 0.3/0.4 etc. when you need to bring him back in. You WILL need to bring him back in Andy, at some stage. I won't mention bringing back the Drog, that's still giving you sleepless nights I would guess!

I don't envisage having Malouda back in my team until week *goes and checks* 20 at the earliest, looking at the skeds. I'd be more than willing to "lose" £0.3m to try and score more points in that interim.

Drogba's not a worry(*), if I wanted him back I could spend 4 points on him today and know I've made a profit (in money and points) on that transfer.

              (*)YET!

Right, done it, Chamakh in for Tevez.

Things got a little crazy this week, 4 transfers (8 pt hit) - though i'm not one for fussing about points hits, on a case by case basis they can work out - the idea that a hit in itself is bad, is, well.. bad. Still, alot rides on Arsenal this week so i'm hoping my instinct is right!

early transfers have stung all tevez owners i think.

          think i am following suit...tevez > chamakh (another hit - 8pts total)

arsenals fixtures are too good to ignore and any loss in value will be minimal over the next 2 weeks.

Yeah, once you factor in the Tevez drop and Chamakh (potential) rise, then it's not looking so bad. Chamakh has generally done well at home anyway and the next three fixtures are looking good.

I'm basically banking on the fact Arsenal are going to put a few past WHM, which i don't think is a bad shout considering that
            a) Arsenal are generally sick at home anyway
            b) WH played 120 minutes midweek
            c) Arsenal will be confident after last weekend
            d) Fabregas (i think) gives them a bit more cutting edge

If the 2.5 mil in price difference was not in question between Berba and Little Pea as short term replacements for Tevez (which in reality they're not if I just turn back and pick him back up before the Man Utd game) which one would you pick? Utd don't really have 5 fit midfielders to make a midfield five!! Park played 90 minutes in midweek so I can't imagine that he's in Lord Fergie's plans for the weekend. Plus, Fergie was perfectly happy to go with two up top against Liverpool, so I can't see why he wouldn't want to do the same against the Spuds.

My best guess at the Utd (not that I'm a closet Utd fan or anything.. 😉 )

                VDS
                Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
                Nani Scholes Fletcher Anderson
                Berbatov Hernandez

With Hernandez possibly drifting out wide left when out of possession, and Anderson bustling around in the middle.

                    I'm fine with that.

The way that the fixture play out is that a lot of teams play at home twice in a row in weeks 12 and 13. So I'll have:

                    Young VDV Etherington
                    Drogba Carroll

...all playing at home twice, and then Fabregas and Nani who obviously play every week. Plan is to play Hernandez for the next two, and then to bench him for the next two. Hopefully making a shed load of money in the process and then getting rid when the options are clearer.

                    Fool proof. 😉

I'm not saying i think he won't - i'm just not confident that he will.

Peoples arguments as to why he will seem sound enough, but it would take more than that for me to get him in to my team, if that makes sense.

If as reported Tevez has a significant haematoma (blood clot) in his quads there is no way he will play in under 3 weeks, if that helps those unsure whether to keep or sell him. Same injury as Alex..

Ok almost settled on my WC. How does this look as my squad:

    Al Habsi-Gilks
    Cashley-Elmo-Boswinga-Coleman-Simpson
    Nani-Brunt-Nzog-Fab-Nasri
    Caroll-Hernandez-Drogba

Think I have most of them as long term picks.
Coleman, Nasri and Hernandez are short-term picks.
Bosingwa is a bit of a risk.
Still have 1.4 mil in the bank but plan to bring in VDV for GW12 and Kolarov as soon as he's fit.

Any advice or problems you can see with my squad?
    Thanks!

Just out of bored interest, does anyone know when FPL update the '% owned by' stats?

Here's an exciting (/tedious) fact: Malouda and Drogba are owned by 43.3% of players.

Aye, I assumed it was automatic, but it can't be 'live', can it? It says Fabs is owned by 8.8% of players..it must be waaaay more than that by now, surely?

I seem to remember that Frank 'The Code' was checking the stats for transfers in and out every minute when he was setting up the FantasyTools/TotalFPL price changes - and found out that the updated figures were published every 15 mins. I would expect that the ownership would be updated in the same way.

It is a continual, analogue display of the ownership figures or 'live' as you put it.
The FPL site is 'live' 24/7, therefore, so are the figures.

alex doesnt look set to play this gwk (or so people on this site seem to suggest) are you just holding onto him for the long haul. Also I would be slightly worried about having two attacking options from a team that dont hit too many goals (fulham) personally I would prefer brunt with his consistency and the form WBA (as im sure your aware 😉

      VDV Fabs Malouda Nani

    Adam Johnson OUT Fabregas IN
    Malouda OUT Arteta IN
    Tevez OUT Hernandez IN

    4pt hit.

The Malouda out part is what worries me. I've had him and Drogba from the start.

Could just do Fabregas and a 5.5m forward with a good fixture next week (as I'll be benching him this week), and no point hit.

Downgrading Cole would leave me with 6.4m. I've got my sights on Kolarov but this week maybe too soon.

Cole brings in the 6 points plus most weeks so I'd be reluctant to get rid unless I knew Bosingwa was nailed on (which he isn't). Not happy with 3 Chelsea players going forward so I think it'll be Drogba or Malouda that make way for Chamakh or Arteta.

It's agony but my FF brain is telling me there are other players that will score more points over the next 3 fixtures!

          I love Yakubu.
He started great for me a few years ago and then proceeded to miss about a million pens in a row and 7 open goals.

          Fun.

i kno the reply to this will be he plays well against united

BUT its united, the second best team in the country and its derby day so i dont think tevez will get great returns in that game even if he is back

they cant all be 4-3 thrillers
far more likely to be a tight affair with scholes popping up with a wonder goal and tevez being subbed off on 59

              8 I think
              Boa Morte > Nasri
              Tevez > Elmander
              Konchesky > Distin

I could always leave off the last transfer but I fancy Evertons fixtures, basically I made a balls up of my wildcard and having to face a restructure.

OK in the last 20 minutes or so i've read two very different comments on tevez both along the lines of "according to reports"

-one read a blood clot in his leg that could keep him out for 3 weeks
-one read he'll be back after the wolves game

So basically no one really knows whats goin on with him??

Even if he wasn't injured. His fixtures aren't exactly good.

wlv wba MUN BIR ful stk

And when considering that he'll miss the Wolves game, and possibly further ones after that, I didn't have to think much about getting rid of him.

All this value talk is nonsense. You're selling value (i.e. the amount of money you have to spend if you transfer everyone out) isn't going to go down. In fact, you're more than likely to prevent it from going down by getting rid of Tevez as he started to plummet in price.

I was selling when we thought he would be fine for the weekend, but that's me.

Now I'll never know whether it would have been a genius or truly awful (the latter probably more likely) move as it'll be lost in the crowd. But oh well, you roll with the punches.

I'm in a weird position of the replacement I'll be getting for Tevez is a financing chip to allow Fabregas, and will be on the bench this week. I've not decided yet, I want it to be Odemwingie.

Could have been inspired... Like getting rid of Drogba before 2,6,0,2...*

Hey, count the points Torres has scored over the last four weeks then ...ahhhh, 15 vs 10 it is. Or even with Barton auto-sub, 15-12.

andy got to say i have a lot of respect for you sticking with torres. i got rid of him for tevez last week and look where it got me! my love for torres knows no bounds though and i am considering getting him back in this week, fixtures aren't bad at all for a long period now barring the chelsea game. i missed the liverpool match last week, how did torres and liverpool in general look? enough to warrant me getting him back in? Liverpool looked genuinely pretty decent for 55 minutes. Until they scored the second goal and then they effectively shut up shop.

I was 0.1 short of being able to swap Tevez for Torres. But if I wasn't, then I would have been very tempted to get him in...

ok thanks a lot for the response. for me it's really a case of malouda or torres for the next say ten gameweeks, and i genuinely think torres with his fixtures and importance to liverpool could be in for a decent points haul if he stays fit (big if i know!). i've got drogba, and chelseas fixtures are pretty tough so it would be nice to have a tasty differential. going to make my decision saturday morning i think. so frustrating you can't watch match of the day on iplayer because i think that would definitely sway my decision if liverpool are starting to look the real deal again.

              For Bolton (a) Chelsea (h) Wigan (a) Stoke (a)

Although I do love the points he got me last year towards the end when I jumped the jump and got him b4 most did I do also remember Wigan Away.

Torres is not the same machine away from home since 08/09. And very early last year.

Hoping berba pulls out one of his dreamy performances against his old team this weekend. Cham has better fixtures though obviously.

        Beware the Bendtner.

Arsenal have three games next week (WHM shakhtar NEW). I reckon Bendtner will start one of them.

I think(hope) quite a few would be rested for that trip, including Fabs. We shall see at the press conference for that game. Chamakh is a safe short term bet for me, Bendy may get his chance further down the line.

Even if Chamakh is going to start, I'd certainly imagine that Bendtner will come on at some stage in the games.

Chamakh is obviously an option, but I still have nightmares about his 1 pointer - as el capitano - at home to WBA. Couldn't go through with it..

I would LOVE a punt on hernandez but i'm neck and neck at the top of my mates league and my main rival hasn't taken a hit. He's made 1 transfer though and i bet it's berba to hernandez, the crafty swine. BUT, if that's the case he won't have Fabs so it's check mate partridge (for this week).

Aye indeed. I dislike Berbatov as well (Utd fan :P) but I've had Chamakh once before and he didn't deliver. Got to think it's probably the Arsenal midfield that will destroy the next 3 teams they face!

Bit the bullet and used my free transfer on Tevez - Chamak

Chamak goes up tonight and prob will again. Tevez will prob go down so by time i change back it will only cost me max 0.2

Still may do Malouda to Fabs for a hit...

Why do we worry about the player’s price? No matter what the price of the player if we sell him and make money you can 100% know that to buy him back in it will cost us more? That’s the beauty about the game. Get rid of him then be prepared to work hard to get him in. Ie Fabs and now soon to be Tevez. That’s why we have a bench is it not?

I often wonder what the FPL game would be like if we got 100% of price rises and 100% of price falls rather than 50% of price rises and 100% of price falls.
As this is my first year playing, what is the justification for it? Have lost team value on certain players who werent even playing that poorly (e.g. Arteta - lost 0.3 on him)
