Today’s Members article sees the top ten defenders in terms of value come under the spotlight. What’s noticeable with regard to our projected points per Fantasy pound is only one of our top ten defenders ranks higher than any of yesterday’s top ten goalkeepers- with “Save” points boosting the goalkeeper tallies, it highlights the importance of picking the correct goalkeeper pairing in order to get the most out of your budget…

hey lads, some feedback on my team would be great. I'm not sure if its worth having cech over Given.
    Cech (Ruddy)
    Rafael. Cole. Kompany. (Simpson, Orr)
    VDV. N'Zogbia. Sinclair. Albrighton (Dyre)
    RVP. Suarez. Holt.

If Suarez doesn't play GW1 i will trade him (hopefully for Augero)

I personally wouldn't have cech since you already have Cole but he could pick up a few clean sheets with Chelseas good start. Only other question mark about defence is will rafael play? If he does then a good pick.

Don't like VDV starting run of games but he can gets points against anyone. Do you not think n'zog (assuming he goes to villa) and albrigton is a bit villa overkill? Or you just getting them for villas good start?

Personally I would go for rodallega for 1st 3 games then swap to Holt.

Yeah its a tuff decision. I plan on waiting to see if rafa plays, if not then i can go Cech-Given and upgrade rafa.

Neither do i but i can't see a better option as i am not convinced about Lampard, who is getting older and older.

Possibly but yes, i am trying to capitalise on their opening fixtures.

        Good point, thanks

Why not sub Rafael for Phil Jones? Jones looks set to be playing in the mid-field and can score goals (as shown last season with blackburn)...

      Right now, hard to speculate.

Ideally, I would want Luiz to play in defensive midfield given Essien's injury.

The only nailed on starters are Terry and Cole. Bosingwa is fit again to challenge Ivanovic at right back and Luiz had some slip-ups in the last 4 or 5 games of last season so Alex could get games.

I plan to bring in RVP for Rooney in week 3 and swap rodallega then as well.

    Hey, just found this site and can't resist a slating of my team after 2 weeks or so of tinkering. I came last in a work league last year, too much tinkering and highly embarrassing....hoping to redeem myself this time around;

    Given/ruddy
    Cole/Kompany/Huth/Rafael/Simpson
    Moses/Albrighton/VDV/Malouda/N'Zog
    Carrol/Rodallega/Holt

0.5 in the back pocket, no copying now......

    Hi Guys,

I would really appreciate your comments as I can driving myself crazy!!
I really wanted to free up 0.5 and get Bent over Suarez

    Al-Habsi – (Ruddy)

A Cole, Hughes, Kompany, O’Shea, (Simpson)

Lampard, Yaya T, Barton, N,Zogbia, (Dyer)

    Rooney, Suarez (Bettie)

The idea is a can always do straight big name swaps. Rooney of RVP in GW 4 etc
Lampard for VDV if he is fat a lazy.

    Your comments please

Hey guys, any thoughts on my squad? I have tried to balance £/FFP with the opening 5 fixtures:

    Given (Schwarzer)

Kompany, Luiz, O'Shea (Taylor S, Olsson)
    VDV, N'Zogbia, O'Hara (Dunn, Hoolahan)

    Suarez, Van Persie, Rodallega

Have nothing left in the kitty and would to try and free up some funds, what do you think?

      Hi

other than Rooney - other Man U players at risk of rotation

Have you considered Chelsea given their favourable start

Saurez may be rested for the opening few games - what about Carroll until Suarez returns

IMO, if anything Suarez will be a faster starter than many this season. He had a nice long winter 'break' (7 game suspension) in Holland, player of the tournament in Copa America and clearly will be match fit as well as 100% match sharp which others may not be.

I'd take Tiote as he's the cheapest option (just going to be a sub 95% of the time anyway)then i'd probably use the extra cash on Luiz>Ivanovic and Valencia>Downing.

Not because Luiz and valencia are bad players im just not sure they'll start every game (which at those prices is a bit rubbish). ivanovic has stated every pre-season game thus far and im guessing pool didnt spend the best part of 20mil for him to sit on the bench.

Hello everyone. new to the site and just signed up. not sure if its been discussed anywhere else but what are people thinking liverpools midfield will be next season? i think Adam and Downing are very reasonable prices if they can match or even improve on last years scores. I'm trying to find room for one but I cant see past city and chelsea MF's due to their easy start.

    MY team thus far:

    Given (Ruddy)
    Kompany Ivanovic Alcaraz (Wilkinson) (Simpson)
    Taraabt N'Zog Silva Malouda (Tiote)
    Rooney (C) Suarez (VC) Holt
    Bank 0
Its a work in progress (keep swapping Malouda and VDV and Adam/Downing for Silva). what y'all think?

Ivanovic is risky. As is Wilkinson.
      Tiote pointless.
      Don't fancy Holt.
      Bank is over-rated too.
      Otherwise, looks good 🙂

haha true about Tiote but he will barely get a game and fills a space at minimum cost. Plus at least he plays week in week out.

Ive been following chelseas line ups so far in pre-season and ivanovic has started every game which i hope is a good sign for the season.

Holt is undoubtedly a gamble but i guess at this stage last year everybody was probably unsure about DJ Campbell.

any suggestions on cheap DFs and MFs then?

here is my team with reasons please critisise

    given (ruddy)
    huth hangeland alcaraz (simpson gabbidon)
    VDV taarabt nzogbia tiote (ferguson)
    suarez RVP rooney

given is best choice outside the pricey top 4 keepers who do not get enough points compared to midfield and strikers

huth and hangeland are the best fpl pointswise outside the expensive baines cole vidic trio and are significant cheaper. considered getting in players such as rafael and gibbs who could be regulars for top 4 but noticed players such as sagna and evra who are 1st teamers still got less points despite more clean sheets
kompany who was best cb last season only got 96 points so i see greatest points return in the likes of huth hangeland and considering samba or cahill if they move to big 4

vdv best midfield option imo and nzogbia is a class act.. taarabt if he can perform at pl level will be by far the bargain of season having watched him many times truly is some player

gone for 3 big strikers as i believe other midfielders( fab gerrard lampard) are overpriced and so best value in strikeers this year… only 2 strikers that can break this trio is aguero and tevez wil wait to see how man city use them

big downside to the team is the bench is very weak and taking a huge gamble on inuries there

    any thoughts?

pick one of RVP and Rooney and strengthen the rest of your squad. Huths fixtures are terrible for the first few weeks so i'd reconsider having him in your team from the start. Also Suarez isn't gaurenteed to start so maybe find someone to fill his place till you know more.

Kompany was classed as a midfielded last season so missed out on all the points from Man citys clean sheets. If he was a defender last year he would of been near the top of the leaderboard for defenders
