West Brom have this evening announced the loan signing of Ben Foster from Birmingham. The stopper joins on a one-year deal with Boaz Myhill moving in the opposite direction.

Foster’s return to the Premier League is not only significant news for the Baggies camp, it’s also a huge development for Fantasy managers.

Foster proved a major Fantasy asset whilst at Birmingham last season, despite suffering relegation to the Championship. He kept 9 clean sheets but also topped the rankings for saves scoring 32 Save Points in 38 starts. That allowed him to emerge as a strong value option with an initial 4.5 price tag in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, earning him recognition in our Fantasy team of the season.

We now await Foster’s valuation throughout the games with a price tag of 4.5-5.0 expected in the FPL. That would see Foster earn plenty of initial squad investment – there’s little doubt that he will have plenty of opportunity to fetch a strong Save Point total at the Hawthorns. However we should also consider that the Baggies kept just 2 clean sheets last term – the lowest in the league.

The shrewd Fantasy manager will note that Foster works superbly in tandem with Villa’s Shay Given – another early favourite for the goalkeeping position in our squads. That particular pairing offer up a strong run of opponents and fixtues (ful BLA WOL nor NEW FUL WIG WOL WBA LIV NOR BOL swa qpr WIG bla) right up until Gameweek 17. That’s by no means the only combination available however – Foster’s arrival back in the Premier League will now cause many of us to reconsider our options between the sticks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Great signing for them. Price predictions for Foster?

And is anyone considering him instead of Given

If he's 4.5m, I'll be going him and Hennessey, anymore than that and I'm not sure.

A hell of a lot don't play the fixtures.

In fact the guy who came 2nd in one of my mini leagues (to me), only does transfers when he has 2 freebies.

He also goes by the theory that all teams play 38 so it doesn't matter who you pick lol.

Id say casual players just check the first fixture and dont look beyond! E.g. Liverpool at home to Sunderland and Bolton are away to QPR I think. Spurs at home to Everton too so I think a lot have Bale and VdV also...

But a lot play with a long term view. And VdV (and Bale to a lesser extent) are fixture proof. Anyone picking a team with the intent to stay the course for 10-12 weeks should select those 10+ price players without worrying too much about fixtures. For players from midtable or below teams - you can pick a player and not worry too much about fixtures if, a big if, you have someone to rotate him with home/away.

    Given | Ruddy

    A Cole | Kompany | Baines | Briggs | Orr

    Albrighton | Taarabt | Benayoun | Downing | Sinclair

    Bent | Zamora | Carroll

What do you think, it seems much stronger than previous revisions for me.

Yeah, I think I'd prefer at least two big hitters in my squad. You might save a few quid from downgrading one of your defenders. Your cheapest mids are 6.5 so personally speaking, I'd downgrade one of them also to raise more funds for a big hitter.

Who do you reckon is a good 'big hitter' to have, Chelsea's fixtures are all well and great but we don't know who's gonna play, and i'm more confident about Benayoun than Malouda for example. VDV doesnt have great fixtures, i just can't see a stand-out must-have, not even RVP.

      Very expensive defence.

      Limited captaincy options.

      Lots of rotation risks.

      Lots of promoted players.

I'm pretty convinced of my three big defenders, they haven't moved since i started meddling with my team, and briggs and orr are 4.0 a piece.

What would you suggest, i'm probably not going to stick with downing, i could go sessegnon and use the money to upgrade holt to zamora for example? what can you see as a good idea?

If Everton, Chelsea and City all concede your in for a stinker of a week, they are also sapping funds from your midfield resulting in a situation where 3 of your midfield might not start and the other 2 are unproven in the league.

I personally am going for 2 expensive defenders, a 12.0(Rooney, RVP, Tevez, Aguero, Torres) & 10.0(Suarez, Bent, Gervinho) and a 10.5 mid (Malouda, VDV, Silva)with solid proven mid price support(Nzogbia, Sess etc.)

Prices are so tight this year you have to have some sacrificial 90 minute cheapies who will never do anything to finance real captaincy options.

Sarcasm is “a sharp, bitter, or cutting expression or remark; a bitter jibe or taunt.”[1] Though irony and understatement is usually the immediate context,[2] most authorities sharply distinguish sarcasm from irony;[3] however, others argue that sarcasm may or often does involve irony[4] or employs ambivalence.[5] Sarcasm has been suggested as a possible bullying action in some circumstances.

Becasue if Spurs do anything in the way of goals which they inevitably will he will be involved.

All attacking set pieces and Bonus Darling to boot.

His output might be slightly restricted by his fixtures but unless you think Spurs will lose their first 4 fixtures to nil then he's gonna score well.

I was at a Joss Stone gig last night and whilst she was sexily crooning "I'm gonna tell you what's on my mind", all that was on my mind was whether Richard Dunne would be a better fit for my squad than Jolene Lescott. Sad? Me?

It's true lol. You do have a tendency to do that once your FPL mindset is in place. Luckily, my job requires me to do 100 things at once so I don't have time to think about FPL.

I'd go for A; Moses isn't a certainty (neither is Malouda), but Lampard isn't guaranteed to hit the heights of previous seasons nor Rodallega sans Nzog.

Rodallega's success this season will be related to Moses' ability to step up and support him anyhows imo

Out of interest, what have people's experiences been with the correlation between team value and fpl point scores?

Example: Last season I didn't have a particularly great season, finished on just over 200 pts, but my team value was just over £110m (i.e. +10m), although the person that won my league did so by about 50 or so points albeit with a team value a couple of million less than mine.

I'd expect that successful selections will obviously lead to a greater team value, but the question is if there is a threshold at which this stops being the truth?

In other words, is stability (less transfers, accepting falls in price following slips in form) worth more than habitual trading?

Was wondering what team values you guys ended up with last season, in relation to the amount of points you scored. Anyone..?

its probably the safest way of retaining value.

I'd have thought larger volumes of people with the same ownership of players makes the price less volatile

i.e. you have more time to ship someone out before the % threshold is reached when value decreases.

There's a correlation for sure, but it's not total.

I had 111.0 at the end of last season. It really helped throughout the season.

I had just over 110mil in value at the end and finished 8k, but that include a lot of misguided early transfers...

This year I aim to learn to accept a drop in value... all too often last year I made early unnecessary transfers just to avoid a 0.1 drop in value...

    VDV, Nzog, Moses, Sessegnon, Dyer
    Rooney, Dzeko, Zamora

2.0 mil in bank for upgrades

My back 3 will probably play every game unless one of the other two have an easy game.

My midfield is no where near set in stone and could change daily, but I think Sess and Dyer are there to stay
